If your child has gone on an overnight trip with scouts, is it unreasonable to expect a few group photos or a quick update from the leaders? It’s DS first trip away and he was a little apprehensive camping for the first time. We’ve not received a single photo or update on the group chat. I messaged privately & got a very general reply with an implied don’t bother me again so I’m left feeling uneasy. It’s cubs scouts and ds is age 8.

I am being unreasonable - parents don’t need to be updated at all
YANBU - parents should be sent a group pic/update daily.

It's one night?

You can't expect updates on social media anymore, you only need that one parent moaning about photos to make sure no photos are taken and shared.
What little time they would have to take a few pics and post them will not cover the time to make sure the child from the special parent is not seen and so on.

If all the group is friendly enough, there might be a chance , but one person is enough to spoil it for everybody else sadly.

I can see it from all sides, I'm an ex Guiding leader and current scouting leader with both my kids in the organisations at the moment.

As a leader we would give written updates in a WhatsApp group. I don't send pictures despite having photo permissions to do so. I would send quick updates in the five minutes walking to the toilet block or standing outside a tent waiting for noisy kids to be quiet. It was never a conscious 'must update the parents' moment. We are always having far too much fun with your kids to think any further to be honest.

As a parent DD has just had her first Brownie camp in the summer at just turned 7. I wasn't expecting any group updates but we did get some pictures.

Honestly it's better just to assume you would get nothing and anything you do get is a bonus.

No! My daughter has gone through scouts and explorers. She has camped for a week and done all the overland hikes she could. No updates - they are way too busy doing their thing. Everyone off devices is really wholesome and a good thing.
my parents didn’t get updates when I was camping with brownies and guides.

I’ve just taken my cubs and scouts for a weekend camp. I don’t put lots of pictures on WhatsApp (our InTouch) for safeguarding reasons (our photos go on our closed Facebook page). I did put some messages on WhatsApp though. Doesn’t take long and is reassuring for parents.

No, I would expect updates from the leaders particularly with the reputation that the Scouts have regarding children’s safety. Ignore the comments saying you are being unreasonable. In this day and age photo updates are necessary and expected.

I feel that parents like you should volunteer for camps and offer to be the one taking and posting photos and updates for al the parents so they are all happy.
