AIBU not warning a woman her shorts had ridden up?

Went for a coffee this morning. A “mature” lady was sitting with male friend at opposite table. I didn’t take much notice, but, suddenly, looking up across the cafe I couldn’t help seeing that her very short shorts had ridden up, she evidently wasn’t wearing isn’t pants underneath and all or almost all was revealed. I immediately looked away but she stayed put for the duration of my visit. Should I have warned her? I was too embarrassed to say anything. WWYHD?

On further thoughts, I have an awful feeling that what I saw wasn’t female anatomy and the “lady” opposite was in fact a trans person. The protruding part, cone to think of it, was suspiciously male. The rest of the person was convincingly feminine.

Maybe she just had a big bulging fanny.
I always wear long tops as my own protrudes when I wear leggings. I have slim legs, someone could think that I had a penis.

Absolutely not.

In Fife in the late '70s/ early '80s, the code for a petticoat on show was "It is raining in France". I'm really not sure as to how that expression came to be. Perhaps because of "lingerie" being a loanword?

We used to say "It's snowing down south" here.

Thats shocking. I would have thought the security would ask them to stop and leave.

Probably would have kicked off and defiantly accused all of the male security guards of being perverts for looking/noticing her. If she makes money from that kind of 'content', she may well see it that they should automatically be very grateful for getting it for free.

Some people have absolutely no shame and are extremely entitled.

I had a really grim boyfriend for far too long and this is the sort of thing he and his ex wife would have got off on. Sadly I didn't realise how bad he was til after we broke up.

Tamtim · 27/09/2026 11:16

What the fuck is wrong with people, seriously? Keep your wrinkly ballsack and labia to yourselves. 😄

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 27/09/2026 11:19

It's a shame there isn't an internationally-recognised way of indicating that, if you end up exposing private parts of yourself in public, it's accidental and you'd really appreciate somebody discreetly telling you; OR that you're a pervy exhibitionist who knows/is doing it deliberately/doesn't care and will not take kindly to being told - and will maybe accuse the person who tells you of being the pervert!

My grandma always said, "Charlie's dead," to indicate a petticoat on show.

Flap attack jokes aside, I think the answer is a resounding not your circus, not your clowns.

And not your labia!

Were they cycling shorts, OP, or denim-type ones? Surely you’d only get FlapRoam™️ with extremely baggy legs, not with tight shorts?

FlapRoam 😅👏👏
Underappreciated post.
I salute you Madam.

Indeed. Quite something. The "mature" comment as well 🙄

And under a table too? I’m confused!

How is a 'mature' lady different from a mature lady, and how is her age relevant?

I think her age is relevant, because we don't expect to see an elderly lady wearing hot pants and no knickers.

Daygloboo · 27/09/2026 15:07

WearyAuldWumman · 26/09/2026 17:18

It's possible.

Some years back a couple in their 60s were sitting at a table opposite me in - of all places - the food section of Waverley Market in Edinburgh and behaving in a most peculiar exhibitionist manner. I didn't realise what was happening at first, it was so bizarre...and there was hardly anyone there at the time, unusually.

There would be a loud noise and it wold be one of the couple banging rhythmically on the table and then grinning at the other. Okay. Weird, noisy and annoying.

Then I realised that it was some kind of a signal. (No, I'm not barmy.)

At one point, the bloke grabbed the woman on the chest just after she'd banged on the table. That was when I finished my coffee and left.

Grey-haired, bespectacled, wearing woolly hats and woolly jumpers. I recall wondering where there was some kind of a learning disability, given the banging on the table.

Never saw them again, thank goodness.

Must have been

OP said she was middle aged. But do we expect to see anyone in a cafe flashing their genitalia? I don't.

Myli1 · 27/09/2026 18:01

I’m always amazed at how many people get their knickers in a twist (pun intended!) at the merest tiny unintentional glimpse of anything resembling genitalia. Granted it is usually covered and not on display, but at the end of the day they’re just body parts, we’ve all got them!

DanNW2025 · 27/09/2026 18:06

What cafe were you in? 🤣🤣😉

hcee19 · 27/09/2026 18:21

Could have been wearing a g string?

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 27/09/2026 18:51

hcee19 · 27/09/2026 18:21

Could have been wearing a g string?

But G-strings aren't really pants, are they; they merely suggest pants!

It'd be fine under something sufficiently long, but surely nobody would wear one under something bum-skimmingly short and genuinely not realise that they'd be flashing people with their genitals or bahookie?!

Realworld10 · 27/09/2026 18:55

I'm sure she will be aware at some point herself.

CrowsInMyGarden · 27/09/2026 18:58

Regarding the sayings that let women know a part of their clothing or anatomy are on show. When I was very young I was at a Lido and a young boy said to me "I see Bristol's out the cup this year" I thought why on earth is he talking football to me, shook my head and wandered off then realised my bikini top had slipped and my boob was on show. Then I got it. It did make me laugh.

I was in the gym stretching next to a man in shorts and his balls were fully visible so I can imagine it can happen

Only yesterday my husband and I were by the hotel pool; he had curled himself up on his side and yes, his tackle was peeking out of leg of his swimming shorts (at the back for those of you trying to imagine the sight).
I told him to get it covered up smartish! 😁

The male instructors at our gym all seem to wear those double shorts so that there are no accidents.

When I'm running, I wear compression shorts, but 6 or 9 inch length. My knobbly knees are covered by my knees supports. Most of the women at the gym either wear the compression type or the double type, if they're not wearing leggings.

I guess your husband's mishap explains why some swimming pools abroad insist on Speedos.
