How much to give 15 year old going to London on a school trip

My son is going to London for 2 nights and 3 days.

All food, hotel, travel etc is covered including these activities Hamilton musical natural history museum science museum London eye Hyde Park and shopping at Oxford/regent street.

How much money would you give for spends considering they are also going to oxford/regent Street? Hes asked for £200 and I personally think that's a bit overkill!

Jesus that's expensive. Might smuggle him some cans of pop and some snacks in his suitcase he can take into the theatre 😂

If they're going to Oxford Street impress on him the importance of keeping his phone in a zipped pocket . I lived in London for 20+ years and went to Oxford street recently and it really hasn't got a good vibe at all. I didn't even want to get my phone out to look at Google maps and I've never felt like that before.

I think I'd give 50 per day and he can use his own money to top up.

There was a near identical thread to this earlier! I said £50 per day and so many people thought this was wildly ott but honestly it’s not a case of being able to pick up a bottle of water for £1.50 anymore in central London!
a few people did agree that £50 a day was about right for a few snacks/drinks and a couple of little souvenir type things.

Ive seen Hamilton more than once and loved it every time.

I would probably do £100 on his card and keep an eye on it in case he needs more. Assuming this is affordable for you of course but that didn’t sound like the issue. My daughter spent £50 (of her own money) on a shirt and water bottle at Hamilton recently so depends on if that’s the sort of thing he might want (and you might want him to have!)

have the school not given any guidance op so they don't have some kids with a fiver and some with £500? especially if it's a SEN school id think they might be a little more prescriptive?

All good covered including lunch? Then £50 maybe £100 max. DD has just booked on to a trip to London next year with school. They have all activities/transport covered and breakfast/evening meal, three days/two nights. I was thinking of £50 to include two lunches sending her with a packed lunch for the journey.

They are not doing any theatre trips. History based so Houses of Parliament, Dungeons, Tower of London, etc. including the London Eye which we all want on as a family over Easter and said DD sat in the middle the whole time as she was bored. They don't have any time planned for shopping either. So I think she should have money for a few souvenirs as well as lunch. Though I might review closer to the time.

£100 would be plenty.

I would also suggest him watching Hamilton at home first it's much more enjoyable if you are already familiar with the songs and the plot.

£50 - he's only going to waste it on rubbish, so a limit might help him budget & sort out what he really wants to buy.

M+M Store is crazy expensive.
It's also a stupidly busy and a sensory nightmare.
God there's so many more places they could go.
It the little things that add up.
Popping into a little shop to buy a bottle of cola and a chocolate bar will sometimes be twice the price than you'd usually pay - that can catch you out.
If you can afford £200 then I would give him that. It's better to have money left over than to run out.

£100 sounds reasonable. You can always put more in his account if he runs out and I'm assuming he's got a phone to communicate with you as he's 15 so he could let you know if he needed more. If you put £200 in his account will he just spend it because it's there?

I'd say £150. Anything less feels particularly tight given the price surges we've had in recent years. Obviously only if you can afford it.
