AIBU to be annoyed about neighbours having 8 cars?

Hi, the people across the road from me have 8 vehicles and apart from the one on their driveway, they park all of them on the street. Some don't move for months and months.

I know I don't own the street and so have no right to park there, but it's pissing me off as I often can't park anywhere near my home (I don't have a driveway). First world problems, I know, but it seems so selfish!

AIBU to leave a note on their cars? Is there any point? Is there anything I can realistically do about it? Are there any laws covering this?

This is the benefit of residents’ parking. Where I live it’s only two permits per household, they’d be fucked

If you get home one day and there are no free spaces apart from their drive you should park on it (we have a lot of neighbours with 3/4 cars in a 2 adult household. DP parked on one of their drives one day as there were no spaces for us. They got the message)

That sounds really expensive to keep them all taxed and insured, are they wealthy? Have you looked up on the website that they really are all taxed, insured and MOTd

Don't leave a note, it's pointless and might cause a row.

If they regularly park outside yours you could politely ask if they'd mind letting you have that spot. But if the street is busy it's pointless.

I think you just have to rant. Also do check they're all taxed and report any that slip.

How big is the house/their family? Unless they have 6 adult kids, or many in-laws, that seems too many for one family. Other people have already mentioned business/tax/permits etc, so the only point I wanted to make was if you have a specific reason it's a problem (eg your dad lives with you and he's got a disability), you could write a polite note asking.

That would drive me mad OP. We live in a cul de sac and one of our neighbours has 5 cars and two motorbikes between 3 people and that’s bad enough. And they have a driveway that fits some of them. One is a massive fancy pick up type thing and the other a Range Rover though so they aren’t even small cars. One is a Porsche that’s covered and only driven about twice a year. They have a double garage but that’s full of other stuff. Not much to be done unfortunately but scowl from my bedroom window 😂

edited to add: their next door neighbours have a Land Rover, two transit vans and a horse box. Between two people. And only a double driveway. That caused a row between them….. I’m fairly sure you shouldn’t be able to keep a horse box on a residential street 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel you. I live on one of those streets where one side has driveways and the other has enough parking bays to fit one car in front of each house. Should be workable, except everyone on the street has multiple cars. I basically avoid driving anywhere unless I know I will be back before 3pm as this is the only time I can park freely in the vicinity of my house.
Luckily, I work from home and can walk to most places I need. My neighbors are very nice and I can totally understand that they need multiple vehicles because there are a couple of work vans for the men who are out and about all day, cars for mums to do school runs and some have adult children at home who also drive. No drama, we just do a bit of a game of musical cars. But what really boils my piss is multiple branded company cars from the same business parked on our street. Some of them haven't moved for months!

I thought this was my road! A house around the corner which is on a main road and has a decent driveway but granted, not enough space for the 9 cars that live there, so they park the excess on our road. Two of the cars were actually SORN and untaxed and have been towed away but there are still a few left. I can’t really understand how they can afford to keep all these cars going but my main point is it’s just bloody inconsiderate! There are other places they could park. I’ve thought about politely asking them if they could move them, but he’ll probably just say they can park there.

Thanks all. Some of your comments have made me remember that there's been some talk of the council introducing residents parking bays in my village. I've looked it up and it says that while there's no limit on how many permits they can issue per household, each resident can only get one permit. There's 3 of them, so that's three cars! And if they mysteriously manage to get 8 permits then I can report them for being dodgy!

I'm going to cross my fingers hard that they bring this scheme in!!

The thing that annoys me most about this situation isn’t the number of cars necessarily, it’s the entitlement that is absolutely rife nowadays. They know they’re doing it, they know it’s annoying for other people but they can get away with it so they don’t give a fuck. Sometimes I wonder whether some people actually go out of their way to make others miserable simply because they can. Or whether they just don’t think or care.

If you needed 8 cars then you should buy property that is able to accommodate them. Not at the expense of other people despite the land being public in theory/legally. It’s just common decency surely?

I have previously suggested that there should be bans on parking commercial vehicles and vehicles over a certain size on the road overnight without a permit.

You could try your local councillor. Someone near me does the same, he trades cars. Everyone in our neighbour was up in arms about it, as parking is scarce. We all bombarded our local councillor, and he's constantly on the case trying to get something done about it. Worth a shot.

Forgive my ignorance but wouldn't the neighbours still be able to park all 8 cars in it, as they are still residents? Or do houses get an assigned parking spot?

And to make it even worse one of their cars that hasn't moved for months is on a section between 2 driveways that's big enough for two cars but they parked in the middle of it 🤬

Well, they should sell off their cars if they don’t have the space to park them without creating a public nuisance.

So bad that 3 people need 8 cars I feel your pain but honestly I don't think there is anything you can do.

Yes it's arsey behaviour to take up all the spaces but as there are all taxed and insured there's nothing legally you can do.

Your only option is to talk to them but I don't think they are going to sell 5 cars because the neighbour asked them.
Parking problems are rife in the UK. You've just got to put up with it unfortunately.

They have 2 sporty Audi's, 1 sporty Merc, 2 ex army land rovers, 1 big 4x4 and 2 small cars.

Between 3 people : mum, dad and early 20s son.

Our road was built in the 60s when they didn't realise every house would have at least one car.

i feel your pain, we have 4 neighbours with 4 cars/vans each 1 drive each so 12 that park where they want we have a small 7 space carpark and 1 of them is a taxi driver and works odd hours we have 1 car 1 drive a lot park at the side of my house i am end house , its getting worse
