To absolutely hate this government, and what they are doing to our country? PART 2

CoventryCity · 22/09/2026 10:14

A continuation of Thread 1.

Strong words but is is how I feel at this point in time. All of them make me feel physically sick. Why? Well many reasons.. Here are just two.

Eg. They won't release sex crime statistics of immigrants / asylum seekers. Why? Other European countries have done, and it is not pretty. Our gvt gives out a leaflet asking them not to rape the locals. Why? Our gvt has said they won't house asylum seekers next to schools and nurseries, why?

Eg. UK now spends more on benefits than it earns in income tax. Labour have increased this - not reduced it. Astonishing. As they say - "Who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others?" That's Labour's Welfare Secretary. He's describing the priorities of Labour MPs.

In the last financial year, the UK government brought in £331 billion in income tax — and spent even more, £333 billion, on welfare, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility's latest economic and fiscal outlook (obr.uk/efo/economic-and-fiscal-outlook-march-2026/#chapter-6).

Where is the distraction? I was factchecking a claim someone made. And if you look back, you will see that my factchecking was mostly correct. But a poster decided to do semantics.

Title of the thread is "To absolutely hate this government, and what they are doing to our country? PART 2"

Please tell me, with a title like that how is it even possible to go off topic ?

But here you are, not adding anything at all, but just criticizing posters by using wooly phrases that do not actually mean anything.

You could at least point out what you think I am doing "Calculated distraction" from. Or are you saying I am part of some conspiracy ?

I doubt if it's worth rising to it.

1 in 5 working age adults are claiming UC. Benefits are why immigrants flood in. Scrap UC, and they won't come because they couldn't afford to live here.

Make Britain unaffordable (it already is for too many) so that it will be too unpleasant for foreigners who might wish to come here? But you'll then be making it unpleasant and unaffordable for the British too! Do you want to turn Britain into a third world counrry just so that it won't be an attraction for people escaping third world countries?

And many working-age people who receive UC ARE working: they just aren't getting paid enough to pay for their living costs, especially rent. So UC is subsidizing low-paying employers and high-charging landlords: not something likely to change in a hurry. The recipients are not idlers; quite a few of them are in the categories that were regarded as 'essential key workers' during the pandemic.

So what do we call those on the left who are stirring up hate and division?

Extremists, I suppose. There is a lot of similarity between many on the far right and the far left.

Johnson didn't bother resigning his Mayoral position, instead spending a year as both Mayor of London and MP for Uxbridge.

Wow what a hard worker, 2 jobs. No benefits for him.

Shame he did both of them so badly. Who needs benefits when they’ve got wealthy donors?

I already mentioned 2 of your distractions - social media purity and personal accusations against posters. There have been several others.

You lectured people on not deflecting and sticking to the topic at the beginning of the thread. By the end you are suggesting it's not even possible to go off topic due to the title.

I would have added to the discussion but as I was reading the interesting points made on both side, I saw it turned nasty. That is why so few people are disagreeing with your points. Not because everyone agrees with you. About 50% of people voting in the poll agree with @CoventryCity so far, with a sample size of nearly 290 people.

Brudffaa · 27/09/2026 15:09

Boris wasn't all that bad. Everyone just hype up the mistakes all politicians make.

It was mostly partygate in the end. And then the politician who benefited most didn’t last in his own job anyway.

Agree that far left and far right are both extremists and both as unpleasant as the other.

Far left is communism. Are you saying anyone here with compassion is a communist?

No - are you after another digression from OPs thread where we discuss communism or what can be meant by the term far left or far right?

Cynergy · 27/09/2026 15:46

Just asking what you mean by "far left". That is all.

Cynergy · 27/09/2026 15:55

The question was "what do we call those on the left who are stirring up hate and division?"

It would be an insult to left wingers to say they are left wing as most left wingers are more moderate in their views and have no interest in stirring up hate and division. So I would lump them in the "extremist" category, along with those on the extreme end of right wing politics.

Cynergy · 27/09/2026 15:57

Though why you are bringing in "compassion" @RedTagAlan when the question was about "those on the left who are stirring up hate and division" I have no idea.

I've observed that many (many) posters on MN appear to call people who support the Conservatives, 'far right'; or even more bizarrely, people who don't support mass immigration of unknown undocumented men, 'fascist'. Mind bogglingly dim but there we are.

I see Burnham has lied his socks off again.

Has he? What’s he said now?

globalinfluence · 27/09/2026 16:24

When I understood that some people were quite happily stating that men could be women, that men could have a cervix, that women could have a penis, all bets were off in the arena of known and accepted facts. which leaves us in a very messed up situation. It was predicted by some.

Partygate and the run of scandals and issues. Arguably rishi smelt blood (but it was a sensible play anyway would do) and he triggered the wave.

Ultimately rishi was the sensible choice and a very decent honourable man

His Eat Out to Help Out scheme was really successful, wasn't it?

It was mostly an angry strategist who ran a successful media campaign. Ah well Starmer ended up the same way after gaining from it.

globalinfluence · 27/09/2026 16:36

BIossomtoes · 27/09/2026 16:23

Has he? What’s he said now?

Since you ask, the usual hypocritical labour crap...

Of course in the New Labour years, Burnham was a Blairite loyalist:

  • voting for the Iraq War, and
  • overseeing the privatisation of the NHS.

Just a reminder for everyone.

Oh dear. And this weekend..

'The Prime Minister was unequivocal in his condemnation of masked groups. He told the ECHO: "These are scenes we have not seen in Britain, people in fully black clothing, face coverings, it is designed to intimidate, designed to cause fear, designed to divide and we absolutely should stand up against it and defeat it. It has no place in Britain. In fact, these are scenes we have not seen on British streets.'

Well of course we have and he has seen 'people in fully black clothing, face coverings, it is designed to intimidate, designed to cause fear, designed to divide', at the many pro pal (anti Jewish, anti-british) demonstrations across the country. Including Manchester and London (and he owns homes in both as we know).

Ah well. At least the thread might limp on to 1000 posts now even though the OP hasn't returned to it.
