He has apparently said as it's approaching the 30 year anniversary he didn't want to read hearsay and bystander accounts and felt it appropriate to tell his side.

I believe him.

Did he… what a hero.

Of course the money he’ll earn from digging over his sister’s memory again won’t hurt at all

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · Today 11:10

I don’t believe him
at all. From what I understand Charles and Diana were on good terms before her death and he was devastated by it.

IF this is true, why has it only come out now? If the Earl of Spencer had said something at the time, the papers would have been all over it, and it would have been very damaging to the royal family, who were at a low ebb at the time. I’m sorry, but I think this is a convenient and sensationalist remembering to sell a few books. Let’s not forget, this is a man who wasn’t even invited to his own daughters’ weddings.

I agree with this. He has an expensive house to maintain and wants to sensationalise so more of his books sell. Why wait 29 years otherwise?

the relationship between Charles and his ex brother in law was strained at the time when the Kinv was supposed to have said this. When someone is stressed/suffering grief their perspective can differ. He may have made an interpretation that he absolutely believes to be true but was not what was said

No I doubt he would have said it at the time Harry was around 12 and they had been through the trauma of Diana’s death

They are all middle aged and older now .
Why shouldn’t he have his say ?

The Windsors have been having their say via their media for decades

If he were to give the money to charity I might start to wonder if perhaps he MIGHT be perhaps maybe telling the truth

As it is I think he's an absolute lying cunt

Pineneedlesincarpet · Today 11:24

Just goes to show, for all the titles and lineage, that members of the aristocracy can still be absolute classless money-grubbing oiks just like anyone else.

Ukisgaslit · Today 11:26

I don’t know a great deal about Spencer but I know he has recently spoken about how he suffered abuse as a child at boarding school

Im sure that can take a life time to work through and may have affected his marriages.

I heard him interviewed on Giles Brandreths podcast and he came across well .

ClaudiaNaughton · Today 11:26

I could imagine KC saying they’ll forget her soon enough referring to the crowds. Even he wouldn’t think her family would ever forget her.

aliceofyork · Today 11:27

he is a deeply damaged unpleasant man who had had 4 wives and several
of his children do not communicate with him. I think he is spinning bullshit to make money out of his deceased sister, and he’s a fucking disgrace.

Ukisgaslit · Today 11:28

Yes OP I saw a clip of the interview - it’s in full tomorrow I think.

Spencer was completely believable.

TheRoyalInkPot · Today 11:29

Human nature is very complex it's perfectly plausible that KC did feel all those emotions at once and also lost it with Charles S?
He can feel grief , shock and relief can't he ?
Mixed emotions ?

TheRoyalInkPot · Today 11:31

@aliceofyork all that maybe true it doesn't mean he is lying
It also goes some way to explain his eulogy and sheer rage at the king.

Agree, maybe he feels he needs to bat for not onny dianas side but also Harry....showing there are indeed two sides to a story and showing us what Harry was up against.

LadyWiddiothethird · Today 11:34

Spencer has always been an unpleasant man,he and Diana were not close. He has always had a spiteful streak,so no I don’t believe him.

Badvocthebad · Today 11:35

Look, none of these people are remotely normal.
They are all very damaged and pretty unpleasant.
Bring on a republic!

Id say Charles W had more going on and more stress than Charles S in terms of being royal being an ex being a dad to two devestated sons being bosses by dad protocol and the public and then his ex bil. ..and yes Camilla to think about .

Charles S had one or two streams to navigate Charles W had the whole ocean.
So id say it's more like Charles W is the one who can't remember and as Charles s said you don't forget only two calls to the king

hardshoulderr · Today 11:39

He unceremoniously threw his dads wife out of their home when he died. Stuff in bin bags
not such sympathetic guy

Ihateboris · Today 11:40

I think it's true but I don't think he should be writing about it.

Summerlilly · Today 12:00

Theres 3 sides to every story, his, his and the truth and the truth is what we are never going to get.
KC can’t prove otherwise and CS is doing this for money, so his motives are dirty.
He’s on his 4th wife, that’s an expensive lifestyle he’s paying for.

shecanbe · Today 12:05

Well look, none of us know any of them and nobody can ever say what may or may not have happened.

The main concern I have is that CS would never have felt the need to disclose this remark if it wasn't for his book. He could have talked about this years ago.

Aren't Harry and Meghan hanging out on CS' estate these days - did I hear a reason for them moving to that area is to be near Diana's family estate etc? What's going in there?

Why did Harry make a huge fuss about not being able to bring his family to the U.K. for a visit - then within a few weeks, they've bought a house. What a drama llama.

Surely they have people to check out schools for them? Who starts their kids in a school, for 2 days and then changes the school?

Well, Harry has his book and now this. I'm sure there will be more to come.

PurplGirl · Today 12:17

It’s probably true, but honestly, who cares! We say all sorts of things in anger in private. Are you telling me you’ve got to the age you are without saying anything in haste that you now regret? This isn’t a Disney movie where people are hero’s or villains. Earl Spencer did and said plenty of questionable things when it came to his sister. KC made plenty of mistakes also. People in glass houses and all that.

Witchlite · Today 12:18

I think the old saying of Your truth, My truth and what actually happened is likely to play a role here.

Can I imagine HRH Charles said inappropriate things - yes.
Was Charles Spencer hurt on behalf of his family - yes.

should it be aired in public - no! My DGM used to say that things said and done between death and funeral should be forgiven, forgotten, or at least not mentioned.

So why bring it up now? The obvious answer is money, revenge and to control the narrative at the anniversary of Diana’s death. All are poor judgement by Charles Spencer - he is not an honourable actor in this.

This doesn’t mean HRH acted well to Diana or during this period, that is a separate thing. He doesn’t deserve to have it raked up, nor do his sons.

i think Charles Spencer is acting poorly here.
