I suppose he has to throw in a few spicy bits, after all we all know he was Diana’s brother and there’s not much more of a story in that anymore.
I’m surprised the Palace issued the statement at all, let alone at the speed they did when it would’ve been clear as day that would be the enduring sound bite and endlessly picked over.
Maybe it was said in the heat of grief and pressure, which would have been off the scale at the time. But it was also clear at the time that any hope of Diana being forgotten was never going to be the case.
I can also well imagine CS as a goady little fuck who could quite easily provoke an angry outburst. I can remember his funeral speech very clearly and it was laced with spite, not just the words but the delivery.
I think it’s worth reminding people of this quote, made about his wife and mother of his children at the time of their divorce:
"Well, those who know Victoria know she's thick – and she's also thin."
