To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

I don't consider a pudding as snacking it is part of our evening meal we have a 2 course evening meal and no snacking between meals.

ZoePonytail · 10/09/2026 20:27

I eat super-healthily all day - my treat is some chocolate after dinner

runnerducky · 10/09/2026 20:30

Yes! Some chocolate after dinner with a cup of tea is an evening staple for me. I have a sweet treat every day. Sometimes twice!

AgnesX · 10/09/2026 20:30

We have a cuppa and a biscuit and have been having that instead of a pudding for as long as I can remember (decades!)

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/09/2026 20:31

Never have pudding unless it is part of a formal meal.

ETA no snacks either

I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t struggle to control their weight so they can enjoy having a pudding every day. Lucky them. But for those of us who do struggle, it’s not really an option.

If people eat well during the day and exercise, a pudding is 100% doable. I eat 1700 calories a day and manage several biscuits or a regular size chocolate bar within that (easily)

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/09/2026 20:37

I wonder if it becomes habit from years back. My fathers family had a good deal less money than my mothers, and more kids including 4 hulking lads. So Grandad would always make a big stodgy pudding to fill them up as a small amount of money had to go a long way.

My mother rarely had pudding as there was enough food to fill her up at dinner. As a result, we weren't brought up with pudding or snacks and its just not on our radar.

ChickenRunRunRun · 10/09/2026 20:38

Chocolate at the weekend. Weekdays I have an apple.

Viviennemary · 10/09/2026 20:42

No most folk I know don't. All too busy dieting.

Zanatdy · 10/09/2026 20:42

I do - usually low calorie ice cream

JustMeHello · 10/09/2026 20:45

I very rarely have any kind of dessert at home. I would far rather have an extra helping of savoury dinner. I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I almost never choose a dessert in a restaurant.

Lord. Are the posters here really representative of the average person? It’s an extremely unusual day for me if I don’t have something sweet. Quite often twice a day.

I just don’t have a sweet tooth. It literally wouldn’t occur to me to eat anything like chocolate, sweets etc. I occasionally have some natural yogurt for breakfast but never eat biscuits cake or dessert. It’s not on my radar at all

Howevet, crisps, nuts, olives, wine and cheese. I could eat them all day long

Lifeomars · 10/09/2026 20:47

I do most evenings and wish I could knock it on the head just had some ice cream and really enjoyed it. Had some raspberries last night so not so guilt inducing. i don't snack though so hope this goes some way to balancing things out. i just like a sweet taste at the end of the day, Bad habit I know but it is one of life's pleasures.

Fakeplasticchimneyswhy · 10/09/2026 20:48

I wonder if it relates to what time you eat dinner? We eat late by UK standards, always after 7 pm, often after 8pm especially in summer so I usually grab a sweet treat when I come in from work, as do kids when they come home from school / college. We then have a proper cooked meal later. I don’t bother with pudding although if I do make one my teens will usually eat it and I’ll have it the next day. But effectively we’ve just moved the dessert / sweet treat from after dinner to after we’ve got home eg 4 or 5 pm.

Yes, but I don't eat anything sweet at any other time of the day

SkyLark79 · 10/09/2026 20:49

Always we do - as long as there’s plenty of fruit eaten and it’s in moderation. Life is there to be enjoyed, and in my opinion that includes chocolate.

RogueRascal · 10/09/2026 20:51

This post has me feeling guilty 😂I eat sweet things nightly after the kids go to bed, recently started baking a cake on a Sunday and it lasts me most of the week as well as the usual biscuits & other sweets I might have 🙈

currently weigh 57kg which keeps dropping so I'm not worried about my weight & I suppose I justify it that I need the extra calories as can't keep losing lol

WildFatball · 10/09/2026 20:52

Not since I was a child!

godmum56 · 10/09/2026 20:52

why is fruit not pudding?

UnderThePressure · 10/09/2026 20:54

I always had pudding every night when I lived with my parents
With my own children we rarely have pudding.
Sometimes I'll buy a tub of ice-cream or some ice lollies and occasionally we'll have scones or a piece of cake.
There's always fruit and Greek yogurt in the fridge.
But that's once a week at most.

PollyBell · 10/09/2026 20:55

Weekends yes including friday but not durling the week

OneBusyFinch · 10/09/2026 20:55

Postieonthego · 10/09/2026 18:05

Mince pies this week.

When I saw the freshly baked mince pies by the entrance in Sainsbury’s at the weekend, I thought ‘who buys those in September because their best before date will be looong before Christmas???’

Now I know who buys them! It’s @Postieonthego ! 😆

whatsnewbuttercup · 10/09/2026 20:56

Always have “ afters” at lunch and evening meal. Fruit and/ or Greek yoghurt usually.
But never eat between meals.

swapsicles · 10/09/2026 20:58

Always! Was brought up that way so an after dinner pudding is the norm, I very rarely snack between meals and once dinner is done that's it, no snack or alcohol.
Funnily enough I don't tend to have dessert when eating out.
If the majority of posters don't have a pudding then who is eating all the lovely array of them in the supermarket?

Awrite · 10/09/2026 21:00

We had dessert when I was a child. A bribe to get my siblings to eat their dinner I think.

Then nothing until I had my own kids. The programming is strong.

I have an ice lolly, Cornetto or ice cream every night. Love it.
