To have something sweet/ pudding every day after dinner?
kind of thought the majority did this but after talking to friends maybe not. So for example after dinner every night will have something sweet eg bar of chocolate, biscuits

Only at the weekend we have a real pudding type dessert. During the week if we snack at all it’s fruit and yoghurts

Qualitypinnacle · 10/09/2026 18:14

Yes always a biscuit or a couple of squares of chocolate

SquigglePigs · 10/09/2026 18:17

As adults almost never. My PIL do though.

DD got in the habit of something after every meal courtesy of nursery. Both DH and I get migraines that can be triggered by spikes/drops in blood sugar so I decided I'd rather DD had something sweet after a meal than randomly in the middle of the afternoon.

It's usually small. A couple of squares of chocolate, a small biscuit, piece of homemade cake or brownie etc. If we have guests or it's a treat meal then something more substantial.

CatherinedeBourgh · 10/09/2026 18:18

I never do. Dh always has a couple of squares of chocolate and the dc (adults) also do if dh has got special ones.

JudithsDead · 10/09/2026 18:20

Personally no but I don’t have a sweet tooth. Although I can’t resist home baking or chocolate biscuits, but they aren’t often around.
If I could have crisps, wine, cheese and bics every night I would!
I have a friend, healthy weight, who has a sweet treat after lunch and dinner every day. She fairly recently discovered that most people don’t and is genuinely shocked.

My kids have a fun size bag of Maltesers every night which I had to introduce to control the after dinner sugar intake. Saturdays they go mental on the dairy milk.

Iloveeverycat · 10/09/2026 18:27

I'm always too full up

WhiteJeans7 · 10/09/2026 18:27

Ocado do really small ice cream cones - teeny but delicious! I have 1 of them after dinner most nights 😊I've lost over 2.5 stones since the start of the year so don't think it's doing me much harm.

Other nights I might have another snack, like a handful of crisps, a few cashew nuts or some edamame beans with a sprinkle of salt.

AnOldCynic · 10/09/2026 18:27

@QuickPearlFox YABU. It’s a bad habit your parents got you into. I was the same growing up but I rarely have anything sweet after a meal because it’s incredibly bad thing to do.

downtoearththensinksthesun · 10/09/2026 18:27

I do, every day. Bar of choc, slice of cake, ice cream. Whatever I fancy. I am normal weight. I wouldn't go over a bar though, one bar is enough for me.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 10/09/2026 18:29

Nope.

When I fancy a piece of chocolate it's during the day with a coffee.

Biscuits are synonymous with visiting my mum - she always has a well stocked cookie jar! If I kept them in my own home I wouldn't be able to control myself.

Keymoment · 10/09/2026 18:30

I wouldn’t generally have chocolate or a biscuit, but l would generally have dessert. It’s just a normal part of a dinner menu. It would seem odd to just have a main meal and then just stop.

Sausagedognamedmash · 10/09/2026 18:32

It depends what I've eaten for dinner. If something really salty or savoury I will crave a little something sweet after. We keep funsize chocolate bars and haribos in the house for the kids so will usually have one of those.

Musicaltheatremum · 10/09/2026 18:32

No usually nothing

ElefantAndCastle · 10/09/2026 18:32

We don't.

BronzedSun · 10/09/2026 18:33

I have a sweet tooth and do have a bar of chocolate everyday but have never been into having to have something sweet after dinner every day. So I’ve been against DC doing similar.

Oddly, my husband, who doesn’t have a huge sweet tooth, grew up having pudding after every meal and still expects it everyday, so moving in with me was an adjustment for him!

MissChanandlerBonng · 10/09/2026 18:33

Not here

DryIce · 10/09/2026 18:34

No. I'll make pudding as a special treat occasionally, but something sweet after dinner definitely isn't routine.

I guess it is a British thing, I actually have developed an unreasonable dislike of it as a concept! Couldn't understand when the children started school why they were heaving some kind of pudding every day after lunch. Then they want it at home!

I imagine it started when people ate less and were generally less nourished, so adding a pudding to a workers meal or school dinner added some extra calories

ginasevern · 10/09/2026 18:37

My mum always made a homemade pudding when I was young. Things like apple pie or gooseberry crumble, all with fruit from our own garden. She also made Sussex Pond pudding and bread and butter pudding to use up stale bread. But we didn't have chocolate or biscuits very often at all. This was the 1960's and we were all slim and healthy.

AvogadrosNumber · 10/09/2026 18:39

Not here either, it's not a habit we've ever had. I do eat sweet things, I just don't have them as part of a daily two course evening meal. A proper pudding, cake or something with ice-cream is on average a couple of times a month thing. Biscuits or chocolate is more like a couple of times a week.

TaptheCap · 10/09/2026 18:42

A few (2-3) times a week here at most.

I don't know anyone who does it daily.

The kids get pudding every day at school though.

YourAmberExpert · 10/09/2026 18:43

Nope

Hayley1256 · 10/09/2026 18:44

I rarely have puddings or sweets stuff after dinner

Enko · 10/09/2026 18:44

Dh "needs" a dessert daily. It was the norm for him growing up and he doesnt feel satisfied without it. For me desserts were not an everyday occurance so I dont need it every day. I do sometimes have fruit or yoghurt later (or icecream) but not daily.

Our kids are like me. They like a dessert but don't need it. Likely because I didn't serve it as a daily thing in their childhood.

MaybeItWasMe · 10/09/2026 18:45

Only after Sunday lunch here. Except for fruit.

pastadish · 10/09/2026 18:46

I have something sweet everyday. I need to take myself in hand and stop eating it
