Aibu feeling uneasy about men taking little girls to the toilet in the womens toilet?

I've seen this a few times and I dont know what is the right thing to do.
So the other week we were at the cinema. I took my daughter to the toilet and as I was waiting for her a man came out of a cubicle with a little girl and went to wash her hands.
It got me thinking.
I feel uncomfortable a man in the womens toilet. I understand how you'd potentially feel uncomfortable taking a daughter into the mens toilets.
And the only other option in this situation was the disabled toilet but morally thats wrong.

I dont know what I feel is right in this situation so wanted to know other people's opinions.
So yabu: its right for a man to take girl into female toilets
Yanbu: he should take her somewhere else...but where?

No, men should not be entering women’s toilets to take their daughters to the toilet.

It’s abusive to a bathroom of women for a man to enter. I know there are male cleaners but it can’t be avoided.

If you go out with a child of the opposite sex you need to be able to consider the rights of other people as well.

I'd say a predator would be more likely to pick up a cleaning job than bring a child.
(I also have no problem with cleaners. Cubicles lock.)

Who’s to say those are the rules?

When I was growing up boys and girls used the ladies with our mums until the boys felt old enough to venture into the mens themselves. Just my experience, obviously. If dads were around the boys would go to the men’s with their dads.

I don’t really care what people do tbh, it just wouldn’t bother me if a man brought his little girl into the ladies. I’ve seen it happen maybe twice in my life and I’ve been fine with it.

And what did dads do when you were growing up or did they just not exist . What you have outlined here is correct , a child going to the bathroom that corresponds with the sex of the accompanying adult

So if little boys and girls used the ladies when out with their mums why shouldn't little girls(as well as boys, of course) use the men's room when out with their dads? I don't think the explanation given that there's more to see in the men's room hold water since little boys are often even in women's change rooms where there is much more visible.

I get the impression that these people think that little girls are more delicate than little boys . It’s misogynistic in its own right actually .

Children up to about 8 go into the toilet their parent would normally use with them. Or a family room if one is available.

Disabled toilet should only be used if one of the people using the toilet has a disability.

This! It’s not difficult & no men should ever be in the women’s toilets, ever!

If females weren’t more vulnerable then we wouldn’t need separate facilities though.

They aren’t more vulnerable than little
boys who are too young to go to toilets or changing rooms on their own . When with a parent . This is the point . People seem to think they are .

No if someone hasn’t got a disability then they shouldn’t use the disabled toilet.

Yes, they can. If the situation calls for it. Or install a bathroom for men / women with a child of the opposite sex. Seems excessively expensive. Otherwise, we can exercise common sense.

An adapted bathroom is not exclusively for people with disabilities. This situation warrants it being used.

And they are more likely to be at risk from males they know, including their fathers.

All the more reason to allow little girls to use the women’s toilets with their dad instead of being vulnerable in the men’s toilets with dad and who knows how many paedophiles.

NullaEffugium · Yesterday 22:01

Anarchy99 · Yesterday 12:00

That is disgusting. Why do people go to places like that?

According to tralala other countries with women’s rights manage to never allow a dad with a daughter into women’s toilets. Unfortunately, she can’t name a single one and not even Ireland, where she has lived for 37 years manages. Perhaps she saw it in a film?

NullaEffugium · Yesterday 22:03

No, I agree with that. I just don't think that the distress that, say, a four year old girl might feel at having to go into the men's with her father should be casually dismissed as invalid but the feelings of a girl or woman having to come out of a cubicle and see a man helping his daughter are seen as valid and right. I don't think this viciousness towards people who want to protect the first little girl is really helping anyone.

Exactly, children should be prioritised over adults because they are at higher risk.

I know what you mean but at the same time it’s interesting that the people who are so determined that this is an acceptable exception do not seem to have an answer to these questions. Because it doesn’t make sense. I must also add that I did use the word snowflake but only when accused of being dehumanising and likening little girls to animals , which was a gross misinterpretation of what was said

You called little girls precious little pets in a derogatory fashion.

That is dehumanising because only animals are pets.

Blatantly likening humans to animals is associated with discrimination and hostility. The power of dehumanizing animal metaphors is thought to lie in the belief that animals are inferior to humans and do not deserve full moral concern.

One prevalent way to dehumanize is to liken individuals or groups to nonhuman animals, which can happen either subtly or blatantly (Haslam, 2006; Kteily and Bruneau, 2017). Subtle animalistic dehumanization means degrading targets by stripping them of uniquely human characteristics that distinguish our beings from animals (Haslam, 2006). For instance, individuals typically ascribe more uniquely human traits and secondary emotions to their ingroup members and fewer to outgroup members (Leyens et al., 2000). This bias exacerbates unfavorable attitudes and reduces empathy towards the outgroup victims (Čehajić et al., 2009; Hodson and Costello, 2007).

A young girl on her own is more at risk than a child accompanied by her father. Why would a small child be so distressed about the men’s toilets? It’s not like people are wandering around with their tackle out.

Nice use of ChatGPT.

People call each other pet all the time.

I think that the most appropriate toilet to go to is the one that aligns with the sex of the person who is actually going to use the facilities.
A girl needs the loo, she gets taken to the ladies.

So if a boy needs the loo a mum has to take him to the men’s?

Dad needs the loo, suddenly fine for the girl to go into the mens?

maxslice · Today 03:10

If the man is the little girl’s father, I’m fine with it, as long as he recognizes boundaries and is polite. He is taking care of his child. Who knows what needs or anxieties she may have? Good for him.

Exactly, children should be prioritised over adults because they are at higher risk.

But then surely a 4year old boy would be traumatised going into the ladies? So therefore mums out with young boys should definitely take them into the men’s? What exactly is traumatic to a four year old about going in to a men’s toilet? Do you believe men walk around there with their willies hanging out? I’ve known 4 year old girls who have often barged in on their dads whilst their dad is in the bathroom showering, going to the loo or in the bath or dressing. None are traumatised.

Look whatever . It’s used as a term of endearment . I use it with my son. I am not dehumanising little
girls I used to be one fgs .i find it extremely dehumanising the way you are speaking
About little girls like they are so delicate they would faint at the sight of a man’s back . You are so dramatic and ridiculous and clutching at straws to try and insult me and make a mountain out of a molehill.

@NullaEffugium should little boys go to the women’s with their dads then to protect them from “who knows how many paedophiles “ as well?. Or do you dehumanise and discriminate against little boys to the extent that you think they are undeserving of the same “protection “ you claim little girls need in there

The dd was with the df. She'd be perfectly safe in mens toilets.

Men should not go in ladies toilets!
