Aibu feeling uneasy about men taking little girls to the toilet in the womens toilet?

I've seen this a few times and I dont know what is the right thing to do.
So the other week we were at the cinema. I took my daughter to the toilet and as I was waiting for her a man came out of a cubicle with a little girl and went to wash her hands.
It got me thinking.
I feel uncomfortable a man in the womens toilet. I understand how you'd potentially feel uncomfortable taking a daughter into the mens toilets.
And the only other option in this situation was the disabled toilet but morally thats wrong.

I dont know what I feel is right in this situation so wanted to know other people's opinions.
So yabu: its right for a man to take girl into female toilets
Yanbu: he should take her somewhere else...but where?

So what would you suggest if a father had to bring a daughter swimming in a facility with only communal changing with no cubicles which is the only availability for many many people. Answer me that

Communal changing has cubicles and the toilets are in seperate little rooms with their own sinks. Have you never been to one?

Suggest? Everyone going to the pool goes to the same changing rooms and uses the same toilets.

I would not have a meltdown I didn’t say I would . I just do not agree with it all in principal. And I do not think all little girls are precious pets . It’s the parents driving this hysterical behaviour and treating them as such .

Your little precious pets trump the rights of everyone else it seems

No, just the little girls who have no mum or whose mum is away for work, etc, so their dad is taking care of them.

I have been to one but there are none like that in my area and many other areas . Do you think the little girls in those areas should simply never learn to swim for fear of catching a glimpse of a Willy in the changing room with their dad . Or do you think the dad should plonk himself in with all the women who are changing ??

I've no problems with a man taking his daughter into the women's cubicles.
My son is 10. I take him to the women's toilets when family ones aren't available.

I have worked in sexual abuse prevention. I get very nervous seeing children go to adult toilets unaccompanied because I've heard too many bad stories. I would prefer children not to be in men's toilets and not to go unaccompanied. Even at my son's birthday party, I stood outside the children's toilets in case any adults wandered in.

So do you take him into the ladies toilets because you worry something might happen in the gents? What about the dignity of rights of the women and girls who don’t want some adolescent boy in their female only space? Or is it only boys that are at risk?

If your concern is safety, then how do you expect female victims of SA to react to that! And how long before you stop doing this, or do you expect him to continue to use the women’s facilities forever?

which is exactly the setup I grew up in and my dad managed perfectly well without making women uncomfortable or me uncomfortable

Wow, and screw the rights of women and girls, am I right?

moppety · Yesterday 11:17

I’m convinced some of this is because so many women have husbands who don’t ever actually look after their children solo so never have to take them to the toilet in the first place! My husband routinely has one or both kids on his own for days out etc. and has always navigated toileting without any drama and without setting foot in a women’s toilet 🤷‍♀️

Funny how other countries manage perfectly well without men going into the women’s loos with small children . I honestly have never seen it in my life . If the consensus was so evenly split it would be a common sight , as men are often out in public with small children.

Which countries are these? Source please and I’m not interested in countries like Afghanistan or Iran where strict segregation of women isn’t for their safety but part of systemic oppression.

I am describing what I saw in France. This isn’t my proposal or preference. It’s counterpoint to strange claims regarding ´other countries’ never would allow a dad with little girl into women’s toilets.

Can you answer the question about the changing rooms please ? I’m really interested to hear how you would navigate that situation

So he teaches her to look at the floor and not anywhere else. Or wait for the accessible bathroom.

A dad should not be in a female toilet to facilitate his daughter when his presence is impacting all the females also using the bathroom.

Venues need to make more gender neutral/family spaces available. You should have complains OP to the staff rather than accept this.

Id rather a little girl isn't going in the men's loos...my husband saw a man wanking in the urinal once in a mens loo

I already answered it.
Will presume the other countries manage comment from you is baseless unless you have sources.

What about preteen and young teen girls who are ood enough to be out alone, but young to feel vulnerable around strange adult men in enclosed spaces, potentially with no other adults present?

moppety · Yesterday 11:20

I’ve never seen a man with child in a women’s toilet, so I really don’t think it’s that common thankfully.

No you didn’t . You avoided the question by stating a changing room with cubicles . Mine has no cubicles . Lots of areas don’t . So what do you suggest ?

But it’s okay for a 4yo boy to see that?

Men? The only girl being told to go around men, plural, in enclosed spaces is one that is too young to manage on her own, so under 8 or so. She’s being told she must use the men’s room with her dad if her mum isn’t there to take her into the women’s.

Which is why she’s accompanied by her father… Nobody is suggesting she should go in alone and most men are just in there for a piss

I don’t think any countries have collected data on this particular topic but I’ve lived in Ireland for 37 years and have never ever seen a little girl in the men’s with a dad . I asked my husband he said men bring both male and female children to toilets here . And changing rooms at the swimming pool . This is what I did with my dad as a child .

So your local UK swimming pool has a communal changing area with no cublicles that is the only changing area? Link please.

Do you think the mens toilets are that depraved ? You think it’s that bad little boys shouldn’t go in with their dads either . Your comments are dehumanising of little boys if you really believe it’s that bad in there

Take her into the family loo or pick her up face into shoulder and take her into a cubicle in the men’s. If you don’t want your daughter around men in a loo, why should every other woman and daughter be subjected to your presence.

What I have also found with the men who do this is they are rarely apologetic or sheepish, they are actually quite bullish, entitled and when challenged a little threatening-the very type who shouldn’t be in women’s spaces

I would take mine into the men's with me.

The whole point is that you are going with them so there is no situation they are alone with any random men... Worst case they happen to see a quick glance of a man at a urinal, is that really the worst thing in the world?

Every single time a father enters a female toilet, he becomes a man in an inapproriate place making OTHER girls are vulnerable. They have rights too. He is removing their rights

And tge rights if his own daughter in rhe future.

@NullaEffugium again avoiding the question. Because you simply can’t answer it without tripping yourself up. It’s pathetic
