OMG Miriam Margolyes Andi Peters

Temptree · Yesterday 12:16

I've got an annual leave day today and am spending the morning shamelessly on the sofa watching daytime TV with cups of tea and biscuits after an exhausting school summer hols. Kids back at school today. I've given myself permission to vegetate till 3:15pm.
So here I am watching This Morning and have just spent 5 minutes with my jaw wide open and hand over my mouth at what Miriam Margolyes just said to Andi Peters.
Did anyone else see it??
I mean it takes a lot to shock me. I am not easily shocked.
And this woman is currently doing a sell out tour??
Whoah.

Look at the thumbnail profile picture of Gail Jennings in your screenshot.
That, next to her comment, says it all really.

Omg i didn’t even notice that. Vile 🤮

Isn’t she a bit of a case of the Emperor’s New Clothes? Everyone in media land wants to look like they’re “right on” and think her “edginess” is clever, when in fact she’s boorish, crass and has the sense of humour of a 14 year old youth. Would it be acceptable for an 85 year old man to reminisce crudely about his past sexual exploits on a chat show or comment bluntly on the ancestry of a female guest of colour? If the gender roles were reversed, I think it would be considered bullying as well as racism.

Reading through all 497 posts, I can’t find one - unless I’ve missed it - where someone has actually said they find her very entertaining and hilarious. Years ago, she was very good in scripted comedy like Blackadder, but given free rein, she isn’t actually very clever, witty or even cultured.

Yes and faux ignorance which is what she seems to have been playing at.

I just had a quick Google of their names together and found this article and then a link to a fb post, the usual/ typical apologists in the comments. I didn’t get very far but ‘they know what she’s like’ particularly annoyed me.
no accountability for Miriam whatsoever .

Personally I think she genuinely is that ignorant. I don’t think she’s as intelligent as people think she is.

I think she’s clueless and she doesn’t care.

Thats an interesting point, if any male celeb had come out with such sexually explicit stories on a chat show, im not sure theyd get away with it...whatever their age

Nobody is famous for as long as she’s been without learning about being media savvy

No, I don't believe that everyone who makes racist comments is aware of it. But Miriam Margloyes is an intelligent woman, not a village idiot. I do not believe for a moment that she didn't know.

If she was that intelligent why would she do it.

She’s all about shocking for applause. She’s not going to get applause for that.

FateAmenableToChange · Yesterday 22:28

Marellain · Yesterday 13:09

Your theory, I’m sorry, sounds like fiction at the expense of people you dislike rather than anything credible.

My father is exactly the same, its an excellent description. You can see the enjoyment on their faces.

She presumably did it because she thought she could get away with it. She misjudged, clearly, but that certainly wasn't because she is old and lacking in awareness.

She knew that she was crossing a line. She has built her personal brand around crossing lines. She assumed that she would get away with it.

WallaceinAnderland · Yesterday 22:31

She's awful. There is absolutely no need to comment on anyone's appearance, she knows that.

CoffeeAndCats3 · Yesterday 22:32

I can't stand her.

She's an attention seeking try hard who thrives on saying outlandish comments. But she gets away with it because she's an old woman and people find it 'edgy' - anyone else would be raked over the coals.

I wish she'd disappear.

ClearFruit · Yesterday 22:35

Fuck me, no. She's been vile for a long time, but this takes the biscuit.

She wasn’t very media savvy today.

Ick sexual stuff is one thing, racism is quite another.

mumumental · Yesterday 22:50

I don’t particularly like crude language in a public setting, but I expect that a good chunk of the outrage is from those who find it inconvenient that she is Jewish, but very much against what is happening in Palestine , and she is also anti Zionist.

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · Yesterday 22:50

I have never understood why a large chunk of the nation loves MM. My friend forced me to listen to a podcast with her (my friend was driving so her choice!) and she wasn’t funny or even interesting. I don’t get it.

Nope.
we are very much aligned when it comes to her pro Palestine stance and I don’t hate Jewish people.
Everything else I know about her completely repels me.
I’m also not a pride, am left wing and like a bit of vulgarity in context but I can’t bear seeing or hearing this person anywhere

She made a very bad judgement. Nobody is disputing that. But her age is irrelevant here. This isn't about a lack of understanding or awareness, it is about racism and bad judgement.

Conniebygaslight · Yesterday 22:55

Never saw the appeal of her tbh so whatever she’s said is no surprise….

Right, DC are back so I'm off now.

In the meantime, I'm so hoping for huge media backlash against this woman after today.

There won't be. She's a "national treasure" don't you know? See also "freedom of speech" , and "people are too easily offended these days"...

PussyGaylore · Yesterday 23:05

I really don’t like MM - the woman is so full of herself but I’m struggling to get all outraged by what she said . . . It’s a stupid thing to say but it’s her just trying to provoke attention. I just wish the ghastly woman would bugger off.

Jane379 · Yesterday 23:11

I'm older Gen Z, has Miriam always been this bad on talk shows?

John Cleese said he'd never met anyone as 'brash and vulgar' before when he met her at Cambridge, I'm not that keen on him but she certainly seems vulgar now.

She has a wife, a long term one..so I hope if she really were ill the wife would at least try and stop these talk show appearances.

But does a large chunk of people love her?

I like her in films, but I'm not sure if she really is as popular as a guest as the BBC etc wants her to be.

wheresthesnowgone · Yesterday 23:14

Temptree · Yesterday 12:37

Well, I mean, I think she was racist.
She said to Andi "I bet you've got a black father and a white mother haven't you".
No context.
None.
Andi wasn't talking about his heritage.
He said "Actually both my parents are black". She acted surprised and said "Oh you look like a high yella"
Andy looked like he hadn't heard of this description so she elaborated by saying "It's what American people call black people who are a lighter shade of black"
Andy said he didn't know you could get 'different shades' which was said with an understandable sarcastic tone in his voice and he looked shocked.
She went on to say "Well it doesn't matter, we welcome people, we'll be inclusive......"
WTF? We need to be inclusive? Andi was born here, in Chelsea.
OMG
So many assumptions made by her based on his race. And blurting them out on national TV!
Christine Lampard looked like she just didn't know what to say.
Then Miriam was saying she's got strong views about people coming in to the country but at that point they cut her off and wrapped up the interview.
Disclaimer - this is not exact quotes. I was so shocked I can't remember verbatim.

OMG what's wrong with the woman??

Jane379 · Yesterday 23:15

fashionqueen0123 · Yesterday 20:47

Found it!

God just read about the other story too. Weird. I thought she was gay!

She claims to be, and is married to a woman.

Personally I think that she must be bi. A lesbian would not want to do the things she claims to have done. (Unless they're all made up and she's essentially trolling people?)

She used to be very sharp, astute, articulate and erudite and genuinely funny. I would say over the past 15 years or so (perhaps more, time moves very fast), she has become disinhibited and Ive long thought she is getting ill

Your spouse is not able to make you or stop you doing anything. They dont even live together so probably dont even have a relationship. The wife may also be ill or unbable to know whats going on.
