The government is low-key telling people to stock up with tinned food, bottled water etc

I have tinned food, gas camping stoves etc just need to think about water really..

None of it is actually official government “you must stock up for war is on the way!!!” is it? It’s mainly just people being told to be mindful

Tunbridge Wells area lost all water supply for several days in September due to a treatment plant breakdown. It was finally switched back on with a boil notice.
DS's school had to shut as no water meant no flushing loos, no hand washing, no ability for kitchen operate....
Lots of people have shorter cuts due to big leaks.

Ive never had a stock pile and no plans to get one either.
If war happens it happens a stock pile wont stop it.

Mostly sensible and it’s not about war. It’s about food shortages or power outages.

Look at when shops cooling systems were going down in the heatwave four of our big supermarkets has no chilled goods for a couple of weeks.

When people’s only roads are flooded out or snowed under.

If an attack or just a failure happened and gas / electric pick your ovens choice was cut off even for a day how are you cooking your food? How are you staying warm? How are you having light in the dark?

I remember the eftpos system crashing just before Xmas in NZ due to IT failure rather than a cyberattack. Busy supermarkets and no card payments possible. A bit of cash in the house is a good idea.

Lot's of EU countries go with 72 hours rule - water, food, powerbank, torch, batery radio.

It's not about surviving a full blown apocalypse, but about being reasonably ok if something localised goes wrong - giving the system time to act, prepare the back up, or evacuate people.

The fascination about this drawer is hilarious. I'm imagining that your husband is using it to stockpile cash, gold and gems to barter with - you'd only need a drawer for that.

As others have said the govt put this on years ago - I think it was more months when Brexit was happening. It is wise to have some tins and a stockpile of necessary items as a general rule. Even ruling out war or any attacks, climate change has shown so many disasters can happen without warning, it is better to be prepared with what you can be. If Russia or Israel do decide to attack us, there won't be much we can do as civilians but keep out of the way.

Its only because we have so many idiots in this country we have to be told really basic things. How many threads do we have where someone has a contagious child but they must take them to a supermarket as there is absolutely no food in the house and delivery isn't an option as they live in the middle of nowhere and they have no family or friends who can get them any shopping. Its the same reason some kids clothes have labels saying remove child before washing.

I've heard of fatalism but this is taking it a bit far. No one is specifically saying war. So you wouldn't have a few days-weeks worth of essentials in, considering the most likely disruption will be to our power and anything involving IT, and besides that we are seeing unprecedented extreme weather so winter could prove really interesting. That's up to you, obviously. Seems pretty short sighted though.
