The government is low-key telling people to stock up with tinned food, bottled water etc

I have tinned food, gas camping stoves etc just need to think about water really..

Do you think that they know something is happening/going to happen?

I think it's difficult not to wonder, personally!

We only drink bottled water anyway but due to the advice we did a massive restock and our whole dining room is now full. If it’s not needed we will get through it but the plan is to be able to supply neighbours and family if necessary. Weve also started to build up a stock of basic supplies tinned foods etc with enough to distribute locally to anyone in need.

I have always been one to make sure there's enough tinned beans etc and food in the freezer and a replacement for things like tea bags when running low. It came in handy when covid hit and the supermarkets were stripped bare.

Nothing about being fearful, just hate running out of things and realising half way through cooking!

Exactly. We do keep significant stores in my house as well as water, gas stove, wind up radio, his medication, pet food, etc but my DH is ex military and thats the way he likes it. I do help, rotate items and replace the water regularly etc. We could manage approximately 3 weeks with no other resources.

Tbh spare food, you should avoid relying on frozen. Tinned or dried, and a back up heating source eg gas canister stove.

It's just sensible really isn't it and I suspect a lot of us are not sensible (myself included). If anything happened I think it would be a cyber attack affecting card payments or something similar that would cause chaos.

Totally agree- it'll be cyber, and it'll hit finance and or energy supplies.

Given the state of the world, I think the planet would be grateful if there was an E.L.E. humans, like annoying relatives, have overstayed their welcome.

Ill be stocking up on catfood. I have enough longlife food to last me several months. Not on purpose. I need those kitties good and fat incase I need to eat them 😎

HM govt openly hostile to our farming sector, with many family farms quitting as a result.
An insufficient water supply in the south east due to over development and drought.

I don't think anyone knows we have a specific problem incoming but I'd say the odds are shortening.

Having a few extra tins, some cartons of UHT milk, bottles of water and candles is normal common sense. We live rurally and power cuts are not rare. We can usually get most things direct from farms. I make all our bread and have enough bread flour to last until next summer, and the log store is stacked and dry. I'm sure it will be ok.

It is not stockpiling to have 3 days worth of supplies in - it is common sense! It is said that it takes a few days to get things sorted if something were to happen so if you can then you should to allow the authorities to focus on the vulnerable who haven't been able to prepare - its just selfish to bury your head in the sand

Look what happened to m&s when their stock system got hacked - imagine that across multiple supermarkets and you can see how vulnerable we are with our 'JIT' approach

Yes something is happening. It is operation albiston shadow. There's loads of information about it online. It is very sensible. Unfortunately far too many of us are too reliant on supply chains which aren't as robust as we would like to think.

Although I'm normal levels of rural well stocked, I don't think we'd be the last house standing!!

I have approximately enough food for a week, a wood burner, a river behind the house, and a life straw. After that I guess we're done for...

It's not conspiracy minded to realize that without a few days of basic supplies on there are many scenarios that would leave you stuck!! Snowstorm, flood, power outage etc., even before you think about more sinister doings

There was an attempt by Russia to attack a German Airport - this has been verified officially by the German government. There was another yesterday against a German power plant which is also suspected to be Russian. Today the news is about the EU and NATO taking a harder line as a result.

So any infrastructure should be thought of as a target. This is electrics and phone networks and banking systems etc.

Given that hackers have caused chaos for NHS systems that have lasted for days, you would be sensible to think about having enough to be able to cope for any short-term outages.

This isn't being a crazy loon. This is following what is actually happening and being aware of the news and the possibility of problems. The more people who do, the less overall chaos we end up with.

This week's news (and it's not just the above) is a complete shit show of different stories which add up to an increased likelihood of possible infrastructure issues - such as fuel shortages, problems with imports, disruptions to banking and internet services etc etc.

Take it seriously rather than doing hand waving saying it will never happen.

We are more vulnerable to these issues that many people seem to recognise.

It suggests risk and worst case scenarios. Obviously. That’s how these things work. Why do you think governments tell people to prepare for scenarios?

This is a good summary. The list of issues is even bigger than this though. And everyone is a potential weakness.

It is not asking to short pile. It's asking you to increase your short-term reliance by planning for the shops being closed or you not being able to buy anything / having no power unexpectedly.

I wouldn’t say I was a full on prepper, but I always have a good supply of bottled water, tinned food, pasta, loo roll, etc.
If you have lived through y2k, brexit, beast of the east and covid, you’d be daft not to have some sort of back-up supply.
I think I probably have enough food for about a month. Water for a few days, but I do have water treatment tablets as well.
I have solar panels, a bbq and log burner, so would probably be ok with heating and cooking. I also have £200 in cash, just in case the banking systems go down.
It not about panic buying, its just being sensible.
