to think that Amy Winehouse should be publically removed from media and press coverage

Ok I do have major family problems with a cocaine addict for a brother who is making our life HELL.
So I may be a "tad" sensitive about these drug taking fuckers who make millions and are adored by gullable young people.

But surely its got to be stopped!

She is totally out of it on BBC2 at glastonbury and she was a disgrace on the Nelson Mandela concert yesterday too.

WASTE OF OXYGEN

OP posts:

She didn't have cuts or bruises

Every female celebrity looks painfully thin, even I know that and I live in somerset

unknownrebelbang · 28/06/2008 23:20

The only amazing performance whilst she was on stage tonight was her fantastic backing singers, imvho.

ChukkyPig · 28/06/2008 23:22

And yes, ra ra for shane macgowan, who regularly drank a bottle of whiskey before performing, and a bottle of whiskey during the performance.

Everyone said, oh well shane, he likes a drink, isn't he great though.

Poor bloody amy, she's only young, a child, and she has all of this stuff on her. And she still puts on a good show despite everything that's going on around her.

Bubble99 · 28/06/2008 23:22

In response to OP. If all drug users were removed from TV/radio etc there wouldn't be much left to watch or hear, TBH.

I imagine drug use is common everywhere, it's just that AW is often visibly out of it.

Lewis Carroll (sp) was apparently a heavy opium user. Should his books be banned?

morningpaper · 28/06/2008 23:24

and what about Churchill

Jeeez he was a disgrace

Winning the war, off his tits on fags and booze

Disgusting role model

DKMA · 28/06/2008 23:29

Bubble, excellent point. We can also strike coleridge off, and wilde. I'm not a literature person but even I can think of two.

And wasn't sherlocke holmes all mysterious because he was on opium?

OP, your issues are with your brother and you need to sort them out separately from the "entertainment world". People in the arts are prone to alcohol/drug abuse. It's kind of linked to them having that sort of personality (recent psychology reports say).
If we excluded all excessive behaviour we would likely lose something which would make all our lives poorer in the long run.

I assume your brother is not a performer though, and his behaviour is ruining everything. you need to attack that, not poor old scrawny amy. She is a victim of drugs as much as your brother. And really, no-one will look at amy tonight and think "oh yes that looks great I'll take a load of crack".

Talk to your brother, do what you need to do to get it sorted, or cut him out. I'm afraid it's as simple as that.

sabire · 28/06/2008 23:36

Oh dear. I love Amy Winehouse. My 8 year old does a really good version of 'Rehab'. I've recorded it and use it as my mobile ringtone. She's got the long, tangled black hair and the bad attitude too. Sigh.

Amphibimum · 28/06/2008 23:42

poor old amy. makes me wanna take her in hand and dry the girl out.

EyeballsintheSky · 28/06/2008 23:43

It's a funny thing. I think she's got a great voice but I can't bear the way she is. Yet every Christmas I'm first in line at the Brixton Academy to see Shane Macgowan amble on with his spirit cocktail in a pint glass, listen to him slur his way through those fantastic songs and I adore him and lap it up. I never made the connection before and am now pretty ashamed of my hippocrisy (and I know that's not spelled correctly but I can't be arsed to think!)

saggyhairyarse · 29/06/2008 08:03

Maybe I am getting old or not watching the same programme but lasts night 'amazing performance' was right royal fuck up if you ask me.

She DOES have musicality, and good lyrics and a lovely tone to her voice BUT she was not holding (m)any of the notes and was all over the place imvho.

mrsruffallo · 29/06/2008 08:08

I didn't think it was that bad.
And you won't find many musicians straight and sober at a festival.
Coldplay are a bit dull

mrsruffallo · 29/06/2008 08:17

I guess the crowd were cheering because they enjoyed it.
If you don't watch/listen to any bands on drink and drugs then who do you watch/listen to?????

notnowbernard · 29/06/2008 08:17

She seemed the most together she's been for a while (is still an in-pt in hospital though, apparently!) ie could string a sentence together

She's a huge draw because folk think each performance could be her last (which is a perfectly reasonable suspicion to hold, I fear )

I think she brings out the worst in people. Some of the comments I've read on MN about AW are truly sad and shocking, IMO

aDad · 29/06/2008 08:32

On a pure musical level, I thought it was a dreadful performance. Flat as anything.

I would like her to have done well, but I don't think she did.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 29/06/2008 08:47

I just watched it on youtube and comparing it to earlier performances is was awful. Her singing was awful, she was a mess.
The thing is MP she may not have had visible bruises and scratches but they could have easily been covered up with make up, she does self harm as well as take drugs and is generally shown in the media exposing these marks and she can be covered in them.
I think she has a spectacular talent but that Glasto performance was so not it.

SheherazadetheGoat · 29/06/2008 08:55

drugs and big hair aside, i thought she sounded shite, how difficult is it to sing message to rudy and she still managed to cock it up. i felt sad for the hot backing singers trying to keep it together.

Guadalupe · 29/06/2008 09:33

I thought it was hilarious when she was trotting up and down the wood with the huge men running after her trying to untangle the mic. She reminded me of Miss Piggy for some reason but I think it was just her gait.

HermanMunster · 29/06/2008 13:39

i think she's brilliant.
no shocker in a talented musician doing drugs and IMO she's a grown adult and can do what she wants.
if we got rid of drug users from music we'd lose a lot of good music.

taliac · 30/06/2008 10:04

I think Amy Winehouse is an amazing talent. The records are fab (though lots of credit to Mark Ronson for that) and her voice is amazing.

She must be really caning it to have 1st stage emphesema and obviously has some massive issues with drugs / booze / life.

That however is not what I object to, although if I was related to her or worked with her I'd be doing everything I could to get her some help.

What I object to is what the OP said - that her life is being turned into car crash entertainment by the media and they should be ashamed of themselves, as should anyone who supports it by buying a paper etc to read about her latest public fuck up.

Buy the records if you like her.

I don't know how much the media scrum surrounding her is affecting her issues. But we all know how intimidating the media pack can be when they are trying to chase a story.

pagwatch · 30/06/2008 10:17

i am in the 'take her home and give her a nice cup of tea and a bun' brigade.
I just think it is really sad.
I think she is an incredibly talented child but it is like watching a car crash

brightongirldownunder · 30/06/2008 14:32

I agree pagwatch. I met her when she was starting out and she was an extremely talented beautiful and voluptuous young woman. Then the media started criticising her weight...
Shouldn't this be more about what the media does to you once you become famous for being talented?
I just wish someone would take her away from it all for a while before she completely loses it.

wannaBe · 30/06/2008 14:39

I think she's awful. Apart from the drugs and the drink and the violence etc, I really don't see the talent. I heard her on the radio at glastenbury and I thought it was a dreadful performance.

Totally overrated imo

brightongirldownunder · 30/06/2008 14:45

You would have seen her talent a few years ago.
Anyone addled with drugs and booze is going to be incapable of performing properly.
