To drink a whole bottle of champagne myself this evening?

We've had a very good family day out, dcs are in bed. Dh has gone out. I've been tempted by the bottle of champagne we were given to celebrate the birth of the latest baby insider. But I did all the work there didn't I? So really the champagne was for me? Dh probably won't be out that late so he can have a dribble glass if there's any left when he comes home. But there won't be. I plan to drink it all.

Babysitter's perk, I would say.

expatinscotland · 28/06/2008 20:20

If I had one and weren't pregnant and liked champers I'd probably drink a bottle to myself every now and again.

Go for it! Have some for me!

themoon66 · 28/06/2008 20:21

Get to down you. Don't waste it on a DH. Get him some lager in instead.

pointydog · 28/06/2008 20:22

a whole bottle? I wouldn't be able to

lazarou · 28/06/2008 20:22

Wish I had some more wine. I only bought one bottle and I think dh may have drunk the last bit

minorbird · 28/06/2008 20:24

Hell no! I intend to drink a whole bottle of sweet white and go running in the morning! I'm mad me! Cheers.

expatinscotland · 28/06/2008 20:24

i had an ice cold glass of wine at a restaurant the other day with my meal and it tasted soooooo good (23 weeks and counting).

i'm definitely going to buy myself a half bottle of something nice for when the baby's born.

avenanap · 28/06/2008 20:24

I won a bottle of champers in a tombola at school today. I'll drink it with you so you don't feel as if you are drinking alone.

theinsider · 28/06/2008 20:24

Oooooo thanks, I'm feeling really validated As for not being able to manage the whole bottle, well, watch out for my posts later on. Hopefully I'll be a benign drunk tonight. But maybe the posts will be along the lines of

jsdfhgvodhgvdjhs v ijapifb u iduhp

as my forehead lolls forward onto the keypad

not unreasonable at all.
cheers. enjoy.

expatinscotland · 28/06/2008 20:26

i'm buying a bottle of champers next week.

to give as a wedding gift, though.

theinsider · 28/06/2008 20:27

avenanap fantastic crack it open, cheers! What's yours? Mine is only tesco's own but it is the finest range. Speaking of which, does anyone know what "premier cru" means? I like to know what I'm drinking.

Ooh very DH doesn't like champagne, so I would be able to drink it with no qualms

Palmer & Co. I've never heard of them, probably aldi. I also won 2 bottles of wine (still at school as I couldn't be botherd to carry them home), a sancturary gift set and some napking rings.

minorbird · 28/06/2008 20:34

You don't have too feel too guilty calorie wise either - its the lowest cal/fat/sugar alcohol drink out there! S'why the celebs drink it!

theinsider · 28/06/2008 20:37

I love school fair fayre bottle stalls. Dh gets a bit embarrassed how I'm always up there handing over my quid for three numbers or whatever it is. But the odds are always fantastic and I always come away with loads of bottles. At our school a few weeks ago I got seven bottles (but one was elderflower and something - cheapskates ) for five pounds. Bargain

IIRC Tesco champagnes have won awards in the recent past.

theinsider · 28/06/2008 20:45

Winning awards is one thing expat but they can't get over label snobbery. I bet the bottle you buy for a wedding present will be a brand name, not tesco's or aldi's own.

'Tis very nice though. First glass slipped down very nicely.

(Not that I was snobbish about receiving Tesco's though - I was just grateful someone had brought a) anything, and b) something different from blue babygrows or other clothes in size 3-6 months - "because everyone gives 0-3 months and they grow out of them so quickly".

Go for it

Katz and me managed two bottles of fizz (although not real champagne this time) last night between the two of us. Seemed to go down quite easily

expatinscotland · 28/06/2008 20:54

I haven't decided what brand I'm going to get - need to read some reviews online.

But tbh the label won't matter, even for a gift.

But then again, people know I pick good wines - because I'm a wino.
