Are you a girls girl? Annoying neighbour isn't

Dogwalkinthedark · Yesterday 21:29

I'd say i'm a girls girl, if you call it that?
Enjoyed the company of men as friends more when younger, but had mainly female pals.
Just been for a dog walk around the neighbourhood with my family and ran into a couple around the corner. Any time we do, this woman just lights up around Dh and chats away (have seen her do this with other male neighbours too)
I've tried hard to be friendly and smiley but she's just not as friendly as with Dh and other men, laughing at his comments (he's not even that funny really 🤣) and chattering away, turning her back on me.
I don't know, maybe she just doesn't like me, which is fine, but she seems to love talking to the men, not women. I realise that sounds bitchy, I don't mean it to be, I just find it a bit annoying especially when we walk off and Dh says 'She's so nice!'
I have a feeling she maybe isn't!

Anyone had this or know what I mean?

How do you know what she is like with other women and men?

Franxi · Yesterday 21:34

Some people just aren’t going to like you. Rather than try and make patterns about who they like (men, women, people with blue eyes, people with brown hair, etc.), it’s easier to just embrace it. I’m sure you have enough friends anyway. I think maybe you’re clouding the issue in saying you don’t really have any male friends, so women with male friends might stand out more to you. I’m sure you don’t like everyone you meet!

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 21:34

Well, all my closest friends are women & I’m generally more comfortable with them,
but ‘girl’s girl’ sounds very twee.

hopspot · Yesterday 21:34

I know women like this. I generally steer clear of them as they aren’t my people. She doesn’t sound respectful of you.

Mathair2 · Yesterday 21:36

I hate the phrase "girls girl'... Just because you "Enjoyed the company of men as friends more when younger, but had mainly female pals" yet "she seems to love talking to the men, not women"..... this makes her not nice and you nice?

If you met a couple and were more chatty to the wife, and they walked away with the wife saying oh she's nice but the husband saying I've a feeling maybe she isnt would it be a fair reflection of you?

How often do you chat with her?

Maybe ask your DH why he thinks she seems so nice when he’s just watched her turn her back on you?

He wouldn't have noticed as chatting with the man too, but you have a point!

Maybe you have a bogey on your nose and she's just being polite and trying to look away.

😂 Perhaps, but every time?

Sometimes I just find it easier to talk to one half of a couple than the other, either because they seem warmer or we have something in common or they’re the person I spoke to first or whatever.

For example, my son’s best friend is usually escorted to play dates or attends school friend parties with his dad as they have a younger sibling who the mum tends to look after. Therefore, when I see them as a couple I’ve had more encounters with the dad and probably speak to him more. I would be mortified if the mum thought I was some woman hating, husband stealing weirdo!!

Pistachiocake · Yesterday 21:47

A lot of people hate the term, especially for anyone over 18. I treat people the same and won't favour one sex over another. I've known some women do horrific things, like abandoning a child, and some lovely men, and some people who completely change their behaviour depending who they're with.
I'm not going to be flirty with men, and I won't expect every woman to do things for me just because we're both women.

Shedsqueek · Yesterday 21:49

No. Ive not experienced that with my neighbours

Greenfinch7 · Yesterday 21:50

If someone is friendly to him, my husband doesn't notice how they are treating other people; he just thinks they are lovely and doesn't think any farther. It can be annoying, especially when someone is obviously sucking up to him.

Yes, I think there's an element of that here too

I'm not a girl's girl (or a woman's woman). I like women fine but I struggle to make the connections. Most women seem to find me irritating for whatever reason.

I'm in a female-only evening class and it's clear that some of them really don't like me. There aren't any men and no one's husband/partner is involved so it's just that I irritate them.

I find it easier to engage with men and to be friends with them despite my not being sporty. Maybe it's all just less complicated for men.

When meeting a (married) couple, I do try to engage equally with them but I'd probably have more success with the man and that would probably irritate the woman.

superchick · Yesterday 22:06

"I'm a girls girl" is the sort of thing women on MAFS scream at other women across the dinner table to prove how loyal they are to other women minutes before they slag them off behind their backs. I can't really take the phrase seriously.

I would try not to over think what your neighbour's up to. Maybe she thinks she finds men easier to speak to because she's had bad experiences with female friendships in the past? Either look past it and be nice to her or keep her at a distance and get on with your life.

LauritaEvita · Yesterday 22:06

Yes. I used to work with a woman who would stand right in front of me if there was a man there. So full body block between me and the male. It was so obvious, I don’t know how she didn’t feel ashamed.

Hellohelga · Yesterday 22:41

Men are easier to talk to, less judgey, you can say what you think without too much filtering, and they will too. With women you need to be a lot more filtered. It’s often better to say what they want to hear. Some women don’t find this easy. I guess your neighbour is one of these. Or she just doesn’t like you much.

TooOrangey · Yesterday 22:46

I hope I’m not a ‘girls girl’, because that sounds absolutely nauseating.

I work in industry that is very male dominated, so although I have lots of female friends, I get on particularly well with men. My husband migrates towards the women in a group, so we balance each other out.

NotAnotherScarf · Yesterday 22:48

Jesus why in August 2026 does almost every woman who posts on here think another woman wants to shag her husband.

Christ . Lady he ain't all that

RaininSummer · Yesterday 23:11

She just sounds rude to me and attention seeking if a bloke is around. Bit of a cowbag.

Sure. All men are like this, and all women like that. 👍
