AIBU to think moustaches have unfortunate associations?

They generally look bent copper, pornstar, serial killer, Village People.

I’m slightly perturbed by the trend.

Most look awful, as do most beards. Difference is that the latter are too prevalent because of fashion followers or laziness.

Is the Mo-vember thing, where men grew moustaches in November in aid of men’s cancers, still going?

I'm not generally a fan of moustaches on their own. Kept tidy and combined with something on the chin (as my DH styles his), they can look nicer, imo, but a man with just a moustache tends to look worse than a man with no facial hair. Especially young men.

I remember noticing lots of young men with 'Bieber hair' (called a 'side sweep', apparently), back in the day, and thinking how ridiculous it looked. There have been many similar moments since!

He's from BBC Scotland. Never given his appearance a second thought as he's been on our screens for years.

David Harbour looks good with one, ideally with a short beard too, not a big hairy one. But the moustache looks sexy on him I think.

My old pe teacher had a moustache, orange tinted glasses and openly had 'affairs' (which is how it was phrased in the 90s) with students. Vile man.

I'm partial to a beard, but I have never fancied a man with a moustache; unless you're Tom Selleck you shouldn't even think about it.

I hate them. My DH did Movember a few years ago and he looked like a distinguished Edwardian gentleman - but that era is where they should remain.

He didn't repeat the experiment...

I am not very keen on beards either, especially the long ones that look make them look like a Mr Twits character or an ISIS terrorist, depending on your perspective. Imagine the food getting caught in them. God knows how they get their wives to kiss them but each to their own I guess.

When I see a moustache on a young man, it always reminds me of Leonard Bast in the novel Howards End. A young lower-lower-middle-class clerk in Edwardian England, desperately unsure of himself, eager to move in higher circles but lacking the confidence to do that with any elan.
He is a lovely person, actually, but the moustache part of him (not sure if he actually does have a moustache but he does in my mind) screams insecurity - the hope of appearing older and more deserving of respect.

I bet he strutted around the school in his too tight track suit too.

But, I cannot abide the ‘soul beard’ - reminds me of Gary Glitter 🤢🤮
I don’t mind proper, trimmed beards, but when they get too long and unkempt, they start to look a bit …..pubic.

We've recently been to a wedding and never seen so many mustaches and mullets under one roof, looked like a 70's porn star convention!

A beard doesn't always mean laziness.
A well kept beard is more effort to maintain than whizzing a razor all over.
When it becomes, as a previous poster suggested...pubic , well that's a different matter entirely.
