Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

The hill that I will die on. Dogs should not be allowed in eating establishments.

Just had another lunch spoilt as a family came in with 3, yes 3, large dogs and sat down at the table beside us. It’s gross, unhygienic and anti social. If I wanted to eat surrounded by animals I’d grab a takeaway and go and sit in a vet’s waiting room.

Close to £100 wasted on a lunch where I had a dog licking it’s bumhole in my line of vision.

Pretty much like your kids then ???

Kids grow up though, some of those kids might be looking after you when you're older.

No-one mentioned kids licking their bumhole apart from you 🤔

I'm not sure where you're going with this. I have no idea of the severity of your H's allergies.

If someone has a severe allergy to dogs to the extent it's life-threatening, which is extremely rare, even the presence of one guide dog is one too many.

Guide dogs are allowed everywhere by law.

So going back to your original post of "dogs are allowed everywhere and fuck those with allergies" (paraphrasing) - that is already the situation.

"Dog-free" accommodation / eateries and so on can never be guaranteed totally allergen free because of this.

There is also of course the much larger risk of dog owners without their dogs using the dog-free establishments and transferring dog fur from their clothes.

So again I circle back to the fact that "dog-free" places can never be guaranteed allergen-free.

I’m not a dog person but their presence doesn’t bother me. We all need to deal with each other. I imagine my kids annoy people but I try to keep their noise down and instruct them to be respectful of others.

Just ignore things that bother you, life is easier that way.

We went camping and at the lakeside cafe there were dogs in the including our friends’ who was impeccably behaved and lying under the table. Another dog was sat on one of those picnic type benches indoors with his front paws on the table which I thought was gross

I use booking.com! You can check the “Hotel policies” part to see if they allow dogs or not. It’s always stated.

Although I did have an issue with a BnB in Hastings that I may have booked direct. It said no dogs allowed on their website, so I assumed there would be…no dogs!

No sooner had I entered the BnB did 3 yappy little dogs come running over to me. I told the owner to please get and keep her dogs away from me. I stayed the two nights but wouldn’t go again.

So basically the BnB owner has dogs but doesn’t allow guests to bring any. Fine but she should’ve advertised that clearly!

🤣🤣🤣🤣 this ticked me! I agree OP but dog owners can be really oblivious about their fur babies. Once I was having lunch and a dog peed on the floor next to my table having been allowed to roam around under all the tables. Owner was very casual about it.

People aren't literally allergic to kids though

I absolutely adore dogs, Even I agree that they should not be in restaurants. Last time we ate out the table next to us had a dog with them, think it spent the whole time farting, the smell was horrendous.

The only place it’s acceptable to me is an outdoor park cafe where people walk their dogs. And while we’re at it.. no screaming kids either thanks!

Some people like to take their dogs with them. Not everyone goes on the sort of holidays where you are lounging by a pool for a week. For some dog owners, the holiday is also for the dog.

It always goes the same way on dog threads. Dog owners are looked down on just for having dogs, and their relationships and social skills are criticised.

However, I don't like to watch them chomping on their arse when I'm eating. That's why they are not allowed in the dining room or kitchen when meals are being served.

Luckily, we have these things called doors and I can shut them.

I know that if cats had thumbs they could open them, as well as rule the world but luckily for us they don't...yet!

There’s also little to no chance of a random kid biting or scratching you to the extent you need to go to A&E.

I mean I’ve had the occasional toddler unsteady on their feet bump into me and do me zero harm 😆 but with dogs I’ve had them run full pelt into me and dig their claws on to me. I’ve had one abroad in a beach bar try to bite me as well until a man intervened. I’ve also had them sniff me and lick me etc. I don’t get random kids doing that to me.

FTR I have no kids or dogs at home but I say: kids >>> dogs all day every day!

ETA : i only compare dogs and kids because it’s been done all over this thread but in fact I don’t even like the comparison!

Kids are literally just young humans and their presence in public spaces doesn’t need justification and can’t be compared to pets!

I love dogs and will happily pet a dog sitting nicely in a pub or cafe. However, they do lunge towards other dogs quite often and I feel bad for the poor waiters trying to carry food and drinks around them.
The worse is when they wee in shops or businesses though, I’ve seen a couple cock their legs on products in a shop and the owners just carry on like nothing happened, I’ve told staff who have been furious!
Apparently a dog pooed in a fancy wine bar near us recently, there was quite a fuss on the local facebook group.

Aghhhh, you monster. Kennels ....would you put a child in a cage for a week.....my dog is more intelligent than most 5 year old.......never even.

Meh. If it were an assistance dog you'd just have to put up with it personal grooming in your eyeline.

We only ever sit outside the pub with our dog on a dog walk. But…. it’s a bit like where we live, there are beaches, there are a small percentage that allow dogs all year, you can guarantee there are families there moaning about the dogs on the beach when they could have picked from tons of others where dogs aren’t allowed.
