Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

The hill that I will die on. Dogs should not be allowed in eating establishments.

Just had another lunch spoilt as a family came in with 3, yes 3, large dogs and sat down at the table beside us. It’s gross, unhygienic and anti social. If I wanted to eat surrounded by animals I’d grab a takeaway and go and sit in a vet’s waiting room.

Close to £100 wasted on a lunch where I had a dog licking it’s bumhole in my line of vision.

This is the way it’s going. Caffè Nero is horrible now because dogs sit on the soft furnishings and it just makes me feel that it is not a hygienic place to be in.

I am well aware that nobody is going to get ill as such from eating in a restaurant or café where dogs are allowed. But it absolutely spoils my experience.

There’s not much we can do. Market forces dictate that businesses are now open to dogs being allowed in. Many people are now unable to leave their dogs at home. Many on this board lack social skills and prefer dogs to people. So we are doomed!

And this board will be full of comments that children are worse than dogs!

I am a dog owner but agree with you it is getting ridiculous. Dogs can be left at home!

Why did you go somewhere dog friendly op? Usually there’s a dining area where dogs can’t get to unless 5 of you are eating for £100.

I think it's fine in a pub. Cafes and restaurants - no.

I was in a pub (that serves food) a few days ago. It was full of the bloody things shaking fur and dog dust all over the places, whining, barking and "being friendly". And the fucking stink of them...

The only pub/restaurant chain, not allowing them anywhere is Weatherspoons, which isn't a a place I like.

Yep. Hardly ever go out to eat now. Minging dogs tethered to entitled arseholes. It just ruins it.

There is even an ad on the telly at the moment with two rolling around on a carpet in what is presumably a pub restaurant. I can just imagine the dog dander and dog snot flying through the air. Makes me feel sick.

I’m a dog owner and think YANBU.
I’ve never felt the need to take my dog to a cafe, pub, shop or restaurant.

I’ve seen dogs crap on the floor of shops and the owner leave it for poor staff members to clear up, I’ve seen a lap dog with their paws on the dining table, I’ve seen owners give their dogs a ‘puppacino’ and leave the container to be picked up and disposed of by staff (then again, some parents leave all the food their kids drop all over tables and the floor too!) I definitely do not want a slobbering panting dog next to me when I’m trying to eat.

I’ll stick to eating where I know no dogs are allowed in future.

Did they come over to you and bother you or was it the fact they just existed in the restaurant?

I bloody love ddogs. I have 2 . I don't expect to pay to eat/drink other people's ddog hair in Costa..
Had a lovely breakfast in a York cafe recently..Just as we finished a huge hairy beast sat at the nearby table. The owner was very amused he was jumping all over the seats. .

Irrelevant. They can exist somewhere more suitable for animals. Not around people trying to have a nice dinner.

Why did you choose a dog friendly eatery?

Sneezing dogs in clothes shops, stinking wet Labrador sort of dogs. Those ones with the noses that mean they can’t breath and have shit lives but their gormless owners get them cause they look cute on instrgram, those dogs where you can see their anus and they wipe it on the soft furnishings.

I feel like the voices of decent dog-owners like you, are increasingly drowned out by a vocal entitled group.

Even 10 years ago, dogs and people just got on with life with no major issue. There are now an increasing number of seemingly ‘anti dog’ threads here, but that is because of the irresponsible behaviour of many owners now.

I am away , in a new City, and don’t automatically presume that a £50 per head restaurant is going to be over run with animals.

For a moment, I was wondering if this thread was about me.
I went to a restaurant earlier today with my mum and her greyhound. He was on his matt on the floor and didn't cause any issues whatsoever. A couple on a nearby table kept giving us evils though.
YABVU to go to an establishment that allows dogs, and then declare your meal ruined. If a dog licking its bumhole is in your line of vision, then maybe don't eat off the floor 😉

But if you're on holiday what are you supposed to do with your dogs? Genuine question btw. You can't leave them in the holiday accommodation unattended, so are you not supposed to eat out the entire time you're away?

Dog friendly restaurants/bars/cafes have recognised this and appear to cater for those people. So surely the answer is just find ones where dogs aren't welcome.

I adore dogs and have had them all my life but I totally agree with you. There is absolutely no need to bring a dog into a restaurant or cafe, maybe in a pub garden but that's it. It's not fair on those who don't like dogs or could be allergic.

It would never cross my mind to bring my dog with us. People who do are selfish twats.
