Upset DIL has gone home?

ItSmellsFishy · Today 01:00

I’ve had a fractured relationship with my DIL for about 5 years. We’ve booked a caravan holiday together and seem to be getting on fine.
last night she started sneezing and said she thought hayfever, by tonight she says she feels terrible, is aching from head to toe, pounding head etc. she says she might go home as it’s only an hour away and leave DS and DGC with us.

really? Why can’t she just stay in the caravan bed? She says she just wants night nurse and her home comforts.

what’s your opinion?

Yellowundermarine · Today 02:11

I was fine on Saturday. Currently sat sweating, shivering and coughing . I was actually sent home from work today I'm that poorly. I thought mine was hayfever yesterday.

Jaimelefromage · Today 02:15

Why do you want her there? It’s clear you don’t like her, so why are you so keen for her to stay?

Jaimelefromage · Today 02:16

Realworld10 · Today 02:05

But when away then a bed is a bed

Yes. And her own bed is only an hour away, so might as well head home and get better in peace.

MustardGlass · Today 02:19

Maybe she’s just way too polite to say Fuck off you miserable cow. I do get the impression you are not a joy to caravan with.

2026letsgo · Today 02:20

Ok, so she’s a partying, annoying, drama queen who’s milking it.

Whats the actual issue with her going ? You get your son and grandchild to yourself. Is this not a win, win?

fredrikaflowers · Today 02:24

Can’t you just enjoy some quality time with your son and grandkids?

likeitshard · Today 02:26

So there’s two options-
shes genuinely very ill and doesn’t feel upto engaging in the holiday and would sooner be in her own bed and able to rest/recover quickly. And you are being horrible about her.
shes a bit ill but having a terrible time because her ils don’t like her so sees it as a opportunity to leave without seeming rude. And you are being hiorrible about her.
If she’s ill or unhappy why would you want her to stay and suffer. Enjoy the time with your son and dgc those are the ones you want to spend time with

@Onautopilot Raging in August? Really? She was ok to go to a packed concert and out drinking on Saturday night!

That makes sense then she likely caught it there.

Deadleaves77 · Today 02:29

Is this rage bait?
It doesnt matter if its a cold, hay-fever or flu. She feels shit and is only an hour from home she might as well go there. Shes not spoiling anyone else's holiday and Im sure your DS is perfectly capable of looking after his own DC for a few days.

OneHazelPanda · Today 02:30

OP, hayfever flare ups can be horrendous. They also flare randomly in some outdoor settings vs others depending on the organic matter flying around. Going home to be able to shower everything off skin, hair and out of eyes, put on clean clothes and be in a clean space is honestly blissfull when my hayfever flares - I’d be outta there so fast! Antihistamine can help but sometimes you really just have to leave the space. Full sympathy to your DIL and I hope she’s home asap!

Perhaps that’s where she caught it.

You don’t sound very nice on this thread- are you like this with her in real life?

CarotidFartery · Today 02:34

ItSmellsFishy · Today 01:10

Don’t you think she maybe just has a common cold but is milking it so that she can go home? She went downhill pretty quick on our first day from saying she just thought she had hayfever to saying she felt terrible and was aching all over…

Have you ever had a virus?!

Tillow4ever · Today 02:36

Why do you want her to stay if you hate her this much? Even if she is lying, why would you want to have to rearrange all plans whilst on holiday for a fake sick person? Surely though, if she was going to fake being unwell, she’d have done it at home before they left and sent her husband and kids alone? Far more hassle to go on holiday and then fake it.

You say she’s a drama queen- and maybe she is (perhaps you can give examples?) - but someone can be both a drama queen and genuinely unwell. Surely though, a drama queen would have stayed and milked it for all it was worth there, making the holiday purely about them? Instead she’s very thoughtfully removing herself from the situation so that she isn’t distracting everyone. How old are the kids? Are they of an age where they might get upset leaving mummy on the caravan each day and just want to be with her? I’d assume she feels so dreadful she doesn’t want to give this to her husband or kids. There is no space to escape in a caravan - she would definitely be sharing germs around!

Also, what’s with the comment about her having a double bed? So bloody what? A double bed in a caravan is not the height of luxury! If they as a family have their own caravan, I’d expect her & your son to have the double room as opposed to the kids.

Does your son know just how much you hate her? What does he think to it all? Whose idea was this holiday? If yours - why did you invite them if you hate her so much? If there’s, do they not know how you feel or do they constantly try to rise above? Or is your son a massive mummy’s boy and/or the golden child so he invites you despite the animosity? What started the fractured relationship?

You haven’t said a single thing that would make me take your side so far. Maybe if you provide more info, you might win a few of us over… I suspect you won’t though!

Howmanycatsistoomany · Today 02:37

You clearly don't like her so why do you care if she goes home?

PolkaDotPorridge · Today 02:44

Misleading title, upset DIL when it should be titled Unwell DIL. No wonder you two don’t ger on.

AllIneedAreMyFamilyandDogs · Today 02:47

She's not upset, she's sick. Is this a reverse?

Part of my thinking, if she is driving, is that I might get sicker and then not be able to drive safely, so better to go now. Whether you accept her leaving the kids with you is optional, so up to you.

Over new year my son in law got sick on a holiday together. I drove four hour round trip to take him home, so he could rest properly. Sick people shouldn't always drive. In your place, I'd offer to drive her home if she didn't seem up to it.

NoName47 · Today 02:51

I don’t really know what your problem is op, you sounds like you don’t like her and you are being a bit of a bitch. Why do you are so much if she goes home, you will still see your son and grandchildren. I assume you’re so. Is okay with it and capable of looking after his own kids.

KWaldron · Today 02:52

ItSmellsFishy · Today 01:36

It just seems very convenient timing - maybe she wants to go home to an empty house and a few days away from the kids. It just seemed to be very sudden from “I’m sneezing a lot, it must be hayfever” to saying she felt so terrible she was resting her head on the clubhouse table 🙄 we have seperate caravans, she’s got the double room it’s not like she’s on a sofa bed.

maybe I am just being cynical as I know what a drama queen she can be.

I am very, very sorry for your daughter in law. You seem to hate her.

ThatHangryRubyReader · Today 03:03

Wow Id be offering to drive my DIL and also telling her to rest. Asking if she wants meds from the pharmacy.
Your nasty

I think the MIL meant she is upset that the DIL went home (cause she’s just being a big faking baby in order to get out of spending time with inlaws who clearly despise her).

that post is just disgusting. Your pure hate for this woman is so clear.

The drama queen comments makes me wonder if this is a reverse.

You sound horrible - poor DIL

ThisMauveTurtle · Today 03:14

Why do people go on holiday with others they don't like.
I can never understand.

SquirrelGG · Today 03:29

I can see why you have a fractured relationship with your DIL - and I can also see why. Honestly, you sound horrible. If I had a cold (and yes, colds can make you feel absolutely awful, and no they don't take long to take hold) then I would far rather be at home in my own bed than staying in a caravan (especially with someone like you!!!).
