To think it’s only the older generations that have strong feelings about Harry and Meghan?

Does anyone younger actually care at all? I just don’t understand the strength of feeling at all. I don’t know them, who knows what is true and what isn’t. It’s just family drama that so many families unfortunately have. I just don’t quite understand how some people are so passionately angry about it all? It’s just celebrity gossip essentially, who cares.

Hmmm. My sons are in their twenties and think H is a tw&t, mainly for how he treated his db and df. They don’t care about the RF at all but they relate to it on a family level.

I actually think that this is petty common in the blow back against H+M.

When I hear that people relate to it on a “family level” I presume they mean that they have a pretty decent well functioning family themselves who doesn’t have a significant level of dysfunction so they have the same expectations of dysfunctional families as they have of their own functioning family.

It is funny really because never has a family’s dysfunction played out more obviously publicly so you don’t really expect people from non dysfunctional families to project so much of their expectations and experiences as maybe a family where the dysfunction doesn’t get pages and pages and pages of media coverage.

I'm irritated about the constant media articles about them, just stop it and let them fade away. This oldie has never had a conversation about them to anyone.

HalzTangz · 25/08/2026 07:07

I couldn't care where they live, I do care where my tax from my wages is spent. They chose to stop being royals, we should not be paying for them at all

seasaltstripes · 25/08/2026 07:10

The only person I know who has ever expressed an opinion about them to me is my mum, who is in her early seventies, and (in my view!) spends too much time on the Daily Mail website. She vehemently dislikes them.

I don't have any interest in them personally. But if I had to muster an opinion, I'd probably be Team Harry and Meghan, on the basis that the Daily Mail etc have it in for them so much. (I think this is probably indicative of the problems with the way a lot of us, me included, take up positions about other, more important things.)

Late 50s, never heard anyone mention them - either at work or socially. Who does actually care?

mumumental · 25/08/2026 07:34

Nobo much cares, except the Daily Mail, and royal commenter types. They’re just whipping up drama to sell papers or make themselves feel important.

Lots of posters on the royal family board they are obsessed.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/08/2026 08:27

I'm over 70 and couldn't care less about them other than hoping they can heal family rifts. I don't read any articles about them other than the headlines so I know they are coming back to the UK but none of the speculation or 'opinions'. It's all clickbait.

YABU.

I’m 58, most of my friends are post 50 & I don’t know anyone who cares much about them either way.

I do agree OP that I also don't understand the passionate hate, not necessarily that it's only from 'older people' though.

Honestly it's mainly because I just don't give a shit about the RF really. Couldn't care less if Harry is beefing with his dad. Maybe he's a prick? Maybe Kate is a bitch? Who knows? We don't know them personally, it's pretty laughable to think we do.

So yeah I find it pretty crazy when I hear people talking as if it's their own family and poor Auntie Kate / Grandad Charles hasn't done anything wrong and Cousin Harry has just gone rogue because of his evil American wife. We have no idea what goes on in their family really. We don't know real versions of these people.

This sums it all up perfectly for me

I was listening to 'The Rest is Entertainment' podcast today and Richard Osman said there were probably 4 % of people who had a strong opinion of them either way and the rest are either disinterested or vaguely interested if something interesting turns up. I think there is another category mainly made up of media who couldn't care less either way but see them as a way of making easy money out of the 4% group. There was a statistic a few years ago( not sure if it's still the case after Musk took over) that 90% of the noise on Twitter is made by a tiny group of people. I think it's the same here- a tiny group of people make masses of noise and it seems like everyone really cares. Osman also said that if MM went on a TV programme, maybe 2% of people who are offended by MM wouldn't watch but that would be dwarfed by the vaguely interested who would watch. The media and creative industries basically care about traffic and revenue generation and that's it. They couldn't care less who provides it, even if it's people endlessly saying ' Why don't they go away?' over and over again.

None of my family and friends have strong feelings about Harry and Meghan. I know one woman, definitely not a friend, who hates them but she is racist so hates that a black woman is part of the Royal family.

The only place I see the strong feelings is on the Royal board on here, but I think many of those posters have issues. It seems to be the a small number of usernames posting a lot and it’s all snarky comments and pisstaking about things Meghan has done and how she dresses. They’re like a group of bitchy girls in the school playground but I think it’s worth remembering it’s a vocal minority. When people have occasionally talked about them on other boards, most people just say they don’t mind them. The Royals are all quite irrelevant to the vast majority of people.
