To think it’s only the older generations that have strong feelings about Harry and Meghan?

Does anyone younger actually care at all? I just don’t understand the strength of feeling at all. I don’t know them, who knows what is true and what isn’t. It’s just family drama that so many families unfortunately have. I just don’t quite understand how some people are so passionately angry about it all? It’s just celebrity gossip essentially, who cares.

Good point, over 50 maybe?

Yes I agree it’s just gossip and light entertainment, but some people seem so passionately angry about it, like it’s personal?

People who value and respect the royal family have a view on them.
They have become celebs, but were originally royals.

DogsSave · 24/08/2026 13:08

Anecdotally, it’s true for us. My kids and their friends who are 17-25 have no interest in any Royals and don’t understand the dislike of Harry and Meghan. I’m 50 ish and I’m aware of the royal goings on but don’t have strong feelings about Harry and Meghan. Both of our sets of parents hate Harry and Meghan and they tell us their friends feel the same. We know an older women who post their dislike online, including on mumsnet apparently. I’m convinced I know her username and if I’m right, she has lost the plot over Harry and Meghan.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 24/08/2026 13:10

I'm late 60s and couldn't give a toss about any of them. It's a bit of a generalisation, don't you think?

RaininSummer · 24/08/2026 13:13

Well I'm over sixty and don't give a shit about them. I would think it's more likely to be the reality show generations which like following their incessant drama.

KamikazePigeon · 24/08/2026 13:16

I'm over 50 and don't care about the Royals in the slightest, but do feel some sympathy for HAM. The press demonised Meghan almost from the start, imo, and people lap it up.

JuneSoon · 24/08/2026 13:16

YABU to post here about them; post it in Royal

Don't act like the thread police. OP posed an AIBU. Plus she won't get any nuance over there.

I'm over 60, think the Susexes have behaved abominably towards the RF and made a complete mess of life in the US and wonder what their motives are coming to UK.

I don't actually care, I'm just human!

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/08/2026 13:19

Im over 50 and not bothered about them. The hate some people have them is unhinged, but people hate strangers on the internet as a hobby nowadays.

InterestedDad37 · 24/08/2026 13:20

As an old boomer 🙋 I'd just like to register that I really don't give a monkey's about them, and I'd like us to be a republic anyway 😀

Tortephant · 24/08/2026 13:23

According to you I'm 'older':

  1. never heard any of my friends, family or colleagues discuss it bar one some time ago. She was disappointed in DoS for not embracing the opportunity she had and delivering progressive change and highlighting alternative causes.
  2. I'm certainly not angry in the way you suggest. I do find the lack of disrespect astonishing and also the contradictions. I they want a quiet private life, have one. If they don't then relish what they can achieve. Moaning, complaining, and so on has no place.
FoodieDench · 24/08/2026 13:23

Yeah, the over 60s I think. Obviously you're not saying that all old people have a strong opinion on Harry and Meghan; not sure why so many people on this thread have taken it that way. But then again, the over 60s also often think that a parent can do no wrong and children owe their parents a relationship forever, despite how cruel they are, so I think they're personally offended that Harry stood up to his dad.

Dontcallmescarface · 24/08/2026 13:23

I'm 60 and I know nobody of my age who cares about H&M or the rest of the royals.

moonraker0 · 24/08/2026 13:24

In my workplace we vary in age from 18-68 and we often discuss the daily news whilst sorting out the newspapers and the younger lot don’t have a good opinion of Harry & Meghan either. Interestingly they do hold the late Queen in high regard and I remember a lot of them reading the coverage of her death in every newspaper and they’ve all watched the crown as well which I was surprised at.

Shedmistress · 24/08/2026 13:24

I'm 58 and there has never once been a conversation about these 2 in my life, social circle or anywhere really.

TheDogsMother · 24/08/2026 13:25

I’m older and couldn’t really care less about them. I guess my only concern is the tax payer paying for security when they aren’t working royals.

beyondyuck · 24/08/2026 13:28

older generation - do not care, other than family business stays in the family regardless of who you are.
We do not air our dirty laundry in public or our family life - very low social media profile even in the under 25s in our family.

Tatenk · 24/08/2026 13:28

I think 60+ men often get very angry at the idea of a woman who is attractive but not complaisant.

Magsbd · 24/08/2026 13:36

I’m older and don’t have strong feelings against them. I feel sorry for them receiving all the hate from the press.

JustPassingThyme · 24/08/2026 13:38

I'm gen z and I find Harry and Meghan equally entertaining and distasteful.

Monty36 · 24/08/2026 13:39

A bit like saying only older people have any grasp of right from wrong.

thisoldcity · 24/08/2026 13:40

I’m older and although I couldn’t care less what they do, I’m a little shocked by the amount of people my age who are ‘disgusted’ by them or think they are ‘terrible’. It seems to be the traditional royalists who feel the strongest somehow because Harry has abandoned the family or something? I can’t really follow the logic.

Monty36 · 24/08/2026 13:42

Not a royalist as such but you have to wonder at people who go abroad for privacy a couple of years after letting the taxpayer pay out a fortune for their wedding. Then, knowing their elderly grandparents are frail, decide to announce the then Prince Charles and Duchess of Cambridge as she was were racists.
Lovely. Now they want to come back. I am glad Harry is coming back. She can stay where she is.

Illicililly · 24/08/2026 13:43

I’m 70 and I totally resent the idea that only “older” people have a problem with anything. This is a clear sexist post.

Messedupmyusernameagain · 24/08/2026 13:43

I think the divide is between people who care or are interested in the RF and those who aren't. And the people who care about the RF skew massively older so are more likely to care about the perceived ' danger' or insult towards them.

MsVivvie · 24/08/2026 13:43

I’m in my 50’s and do think they’re a pair of fannies ,but I’m not raging or angry. Maybe bemused at why they keep popping up . But yeah, good luck to them, hopefully things will go well for them. That’s all can muster really, in terms of my interest.

LifeIsTooShort247 · 24/08/2026 13:43

When I made a comment or two on the Royal Family and a few users made it quite clear they had been posting there for several years and were 'older' as in 55+. So, you really aren't being unreasonable to think that.

You only have to look at the recent YouGov polls to see it, too. Out of the total 2,063 British adults who filled out the tracking survey, 57.4% of the participants were 50 or older.

I do wonder about those who spend so much time talking about it online. If you aren't doing it in real life, are you even being your true, authentic self? I wonder how it would go if they actually talked to their friends and family about the royals as much as they do online before someone told them to give it a rest - I cerntainly would if my partner kept going on about it everyday lol
