To think it’s only the older generations that have strong feelings about Harry and Meghan?

Does anyone younger actually care at all? I just don’t understand the strength of feeling at all. I don’t know them, who knows what is true and what isn’t. It’s just family drama that so many families unfortunately have. I just don’t quite understand how some people are so passionately angry about it all? It’s just celebrity gossip essentially, who cares.

This thread amuses me because at the weekend I was wondering the EXACT OPPOSITE!

I am early 50s and I assumed it was post-Diana people who gave a shit about this. I thought us older laydees might just see it as the Diana witch hunt all over again.

I actually don't know anyone who gives a flying shit. Maybe the entire thing is Russian bots?!

I have been wondering about the IPP status in that regard I seem to recall that it gives a level of protection from prosecution and they seem awfully keen to regain it despite them being able to afford their own security. The putting a white pill in Charlotte Griffiths’s mouth is an act I really worry about.

Ah, indeed, like diplomatic immunity?

And yes, what Charlotte Griffiths wrote would tend to make him a wrong ‘un.

I'm 73. I have zero interest in Ginger and whinger.

I think sometimes people have strong feelings because they are projecting their own issues. Say people who in their family have a son or brother that has become estranged because they married a woman who has caused problems or isolated him from his family. They will look at Harry and Meghan and see their own family. They are more likely to side with William and Charles because they are angry at their own son or brother and are projecting that anger onto Harry.

Probably haven't explained that very well but I'm saying that very strong feelings about strangers usually have more going on than just feelings about strangers.

It's called parasocial relationships and there has been much written about it and the pshcology behind it, none of it is positive though in terms of what that says about the person.

It's what they are. I would never bother clicking on an article about them, or indeed any royal or ex-royal.

So how would you know then?

DustyMaiden · 24/08/2026 16:54

I’m 64. I’d like her to go back to Mike.

WildLeader · 24/08/2026 16:57

I’m 58 and don’t mind them at all.

I was Looking forward to seeing Meghan in The Gentleman too. I like her as an actress.

i think the royal family is deeply flawed and I don’t think backing Charles and his lot is the right choice.

angelcake20 · 24/08/2026 17:31

I’m over 50 and no one I know cares in the slightest. I assumed it was a younger celebrity obsessed generation.

tartyflette · 24/08/2026 17:36

Indianajet · 24/08/2026 12:43

Well I am older, and I have no opinion at all.

I too am, ahem, older, couldn’t give a stuff about them.

allthingsinmoderation · 24/08/2026 17:59

Im older and don't have strong feelings about them tbh. I do think it a bit sad when families fall out particularly as its so public. I hope they all apologise to each other and resolve the matter.Life is too short.
My adult kids do feel strongly that Harry needs professional help for his mental health issues and don't like that they publicly trashed his family so publicly.

Thecows · 24/08/2026 18:06

Over 50?!

dolwop · 24/08/2026 12:43

Good point, over 50 maybe?

Yes I agree it’s just gossip and light entertainment, but some people seem so passionately angry about it, like it’s personal?

I’m older and don’t give a toss.

Harry is ‘his lot’ though. His dear boy.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/08/2026 00:11

Someone on Mnet posted they needed to know what school HAM's kids are going to so they could pull their kids out if it was the same school!😱🙄

So I think YABU @dolwop.

It's not older generations. It's "not quite right" people, of all ages.😬

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2026 00:48

I’m 65 and couldn’t care less about them. I thought it was younger people (maybe around their own age not very young) who might give a toss. Probably very few people do really.

TheAutumnCrow · 25/08/2026 05:40

I daresay they’re on the same level as the Beckhams, really, for a lot of people. Entertaining to read about, although not too much as that gets irritating; expected to behave themselves to some degree given the connection to honours and the monarch/charity etc; but on the whole regarded as a load of vapid PR with little substance.

‘All PR and no trousers’.

Laaaadidaaa · 25/08/2026 06:03

I do agree OP that I also don't understand the passionate hate, not necessarily that it's only from 'older people' though.

Honestly it's mainly because I just don't give a shit about the RF really. Couldn't care less if Harry is beefing with his dad. Maybe he's a prick? Maybe Kate is a bitch? Who knows? We don't know them personally, it's pretty laughable to think we do.

So yeah I find it pretty crazy when I hear people talking as if it's their own family and poor Auntie Kate / Grandad Charles hasn't done anything wrong and Cousin Harry has just gone rogue because of his evil American wife. We have no idea what goes on in their family really. We don't know real versions of these people.

Witchergeralt · 25/08/2026 06:04

I'm over 50 and I don't care

I’m approaching 50 (woe!) and don’t give a shit.

But I’m in Scotland and don’t know anyone here of ANY age who cares. Royalists are few and far between here and they simply aren’t a topic of conversation in the circles I move in.

MushMonster · 25/08/2026 06:12

I am not that old and I care about any money from the tax payer. I actually have gone full on Republic now. I was on the verge. And this pushed me to it. We do not need kings or whatever. The palaces are ours and they will do very well as turistic attractions without the family fuff.
I do not care about their family issues. But about the taxpayer spending. No, thanks.

VashtaNerada · 25/08/2026 06:29

I’ve not heard anyone IRL mention them at all, I’ve only seen the nastiness online and I was under the impression it was younger people posting.

Eatally · 25/08/2026 06:39

I’m under 50 and think Harry, in particular, is a weak petulant idiot who should spare himself any more embarrassment and stay quiet - preferably in the US.

WhereAreWeNow · 24/08/2026 14:08

How are we defining older?
I don't know anyone of any age who's interested.

Same. I'm 67 and most of my friends are retired. We have never discussed them.
