Friends promised a BBQ and delivered an Iceland beige buffet!

As above really, myself, DH and 3 DC went to our friends’ house yesterday on the promise of some drinks in the garden and a BBQ.

They said they were having issues with their BBQ so would do an ‘indoor BBQ’. This consisted of beige food from Iceland!!

AIBU to find this a woeful alternative?

We went to a BBQ recently, which sounds very similar. Didn't particularly enjoy the food, but I like our friends, which is why I didn't leap onto the internet the following day to slag them off.

They weren’t unreasonable to do a buffet if they couldn’t do a BBQ although I agree a bit more of an effort wouldn’t have gone amiss
you weren’t unreasonable not to enjoy the food.
We once went to a wedding and the bride and groom got various family members to heat and bring food from Iceland ie sausage rolls, spring rolls, cold pizza. Completely understand they were on a budget but we don’t eat that food (especially cooked in peoples homes where we had no idea of hygiene etc). We politely avoided (oh atea few crisps etc) and and went home yo eat. Nobody was wrong it’s just differing tastes and expectations

Or mostly for you how to faff about your friends?

Any food provided by someone else and that I have not had to prepare myself is acceptable imo.

Well he's a real person according to the advert, but people do get confused about whether he is Bigham or Bingham.

Without looking, I dont know either, but all I know is he makes ready meals, which are UPF, despite the price. He's raking it in from the poshos!!!

They fed you, OP, probably with whatever they could get hold of when they hit problems. And perhaps they thought it would be fun to recreate the kids parties of our youth - why couldn't you just tuck in and gave a giggle about it?
I hope you're not always thus ungrateful, because if you are you'll find yourself losing friends very quickly.

Lol, "indoor barbecue". Unless they're lighting up a grill in the living room, there's no such thing as an indoor barbecue.

People get confused between snobbery and class, or think that snobbery is aspirational, but it is really easy.
