Otherwise he can fund it himself or stay in the US?

Because that money should be going to protect Joe Public that’s why. Women can’t safely walk home at night but where’s the police funding to protect them/us. I actually despair with some of these posts where people think the Sussexes are far more important than anyone else is. It’s madness. If he’s that scared why not stay in America where he can have all the armed guards he wants and get gets to pay for it all. Perhaps that is the problem, he can’t pay for it and wants someone else to pick up the tab.

I would agree with you on safety fir all coming home at night.
But you must remember, your local policing budget is an entirely different pot to that of any security for high profile / at risk folks.
It’s not a case of who’s of what importance. It’s literally which pot and on whose authority.

Morepositivemum · 25/08/2026 20:06

Pretty mean title op- and he is a prince, son of a king.

MissMoneyFairy · 25/08/2026 20:17

Surely, as non working royals, they will get the same security support Beatrice and eugenie get, which was reviewed by the late Queen when they took the piss. I thought even Anne and Edward and Sophie only get full time fully funded security, when they are on official working duties.

That may be but money can be moved from pot to pot depending on need

His court case against the Home Office will have cost rhe taxpayer hundreds of thousands in legal fees .. nice one Harry.

He can’t be a working royal, even if he wanted to be. He gave it all up.

Just out of interest can he give up being Prince Harry? Like, officially hand back their duke & duchess titles, and the kids’ ones too? Say, if he really wanted to be a private citizen.

Violetdeparma · 25/08/2026 20:59

As far as I'm aware he did want to work but for some odd reason the queen said no half in or out . Odd.

Yes. Aristocrats have previously given up titles so they can be elected to sit in the House of Commons. It goes into abeyance until they die, then can be revived again by their son. So Harry could give up the Dukedom etc in just the same way. The title Prince is just a courtesy anyway. It doesn’t have letters patent. He could simply choose not to use it, just like Edward and Sophie decided their children wouldn’t use it. I think, correctly, they thought a more normal life would be easier to achieve with the title Lord or Lady than with the title Prince or Princess.

Thanks, Genevieva. Yeah, it seems they are in some halfway scenario anyway because of the status their titles lend. Peter & Zara for example don’t get the same focus as Princess Beatrice & Princess Eugenie. It’s all quite interesting! If Harry had married a blonde Sloane Ranger (like his dad had) I don’t see think he would have been happy (Charles wasn’t). But Meghan is not a person that anyone in the Royal household knows how to deal with it seems… For a variety of reasons.

I’m not that interested in his marriage. I hope it’s happy, like I do for any married couple, but that’s it. If they didn’t want to be working royals, they could have had private careers, like being a doctor or a nurse, then occasionally turned up for photographed royal occasions, without controversy. The problem seems to be that they wanted to do royal engagements without British government oversight and without following the rules. You can’t represent the country in an official capacity if you also flog the clothes you were wearing online and do tell-all interviews. All jobs come with expectations and restrictions. People who don’t like that are best off being self-employed and making their own way in the world.

He not a working royal or an important person in any way so if he feels he needs security it's up to him and his family privately

the80sweregreat · 25/08/2026 21:31

We will end up paying it I bet because the UK is a soft touch. Makes me mad!

think that was kind of the point from the previous poster. Why should there be a separate pot? if women cant be safe, why is it like well that's the average pc plod pot, but somehow superior people get a different pot that's full of money to see them safe?

I do get it for Harry more than politicians or celebrities, he didn't chase this as a child. He was just born into it. However, he does not do himself any favours, and like his mother and wife, does now court the attention.

Its not odd they wanted to monetize their titles keep the perks not the boring bits of the job show up and wave not pull a curtain at a leisure centre (like his mother did) you just cant do that for all the whining about William and catherine they do more behind the scenes but they are also being a little more visible without taking the shine off the king

OonaStubbs · 25/08/2026 22:41

TAFKA Prince Harry needs to shut up and go away. He was a royal but he chose to throw it all away and move to America.

PollyBell · 25/08/2026 22:55

They could always get jobs like normal people do? a novel idea I know

What job do you suggest, they have no transferable skills. He should concentrate on supporting the military.

I just had a quick look maximum age for joining army as a soldier is 43.

OonaStubbs · 26/08/2026 19:51

He could work at McDonalds or something. Or open a fish and chip shop. Anything really.

KittyTinker · 26/08/2026 20:39

I really think she should go back to acting we the public can choose if we want to watch or not. As long as she’s not the new Doctor Who I’m good with that. If her reputation really is in the pan she might find it difficult to get roles or actors/directors who want to work with her.
