Stopping the boats is easy...

All we have to do is abandon the ECHR, the Refugee Convention, the UN, the G7, NATO and the WTO. Then we can break maritime law and start sinking the boats. Obviously we'd have to proscribe the RNLI and change the job description of the coast guard to encourage people who want to sink boats to sign up. The fishermen will be fine.
Once we start with this deterrent we can start kicking out other undesirables. I'd start with the students. Coming over here using our universities as a gateway to benefits street. So we ban them, no more student visas. We might see a few universities close but no great loss, you learn more in the school of life.
After that take away access to ALL benefits for anyone not born here. Don't care if you've always worked and paid your taxes you're not ENGERLISH so less Dr Khalid more Dr Callum.
Obviously once we start making Britain Great again there may be a couple of teensy issues. Food might cost a lot more because the lefty EU might not want to trade with a nation that wants to isolate itself and kill innocent people. It'll be fine because there will be 100% employment because instead of benefits you'll have to do your 60 hours on the food farm to earn your pound credits.
Family will be legally obliged to look after any living relative as there won't be anyone left to do it because we deported them all. And obviously the NHS was full of loony lefties who went round caring for people instead of focusing on what really mattered, which is profit.
They're just a couple of the benefits of stopping the boats, because who cares about the bigger picture or unintended consequences eh?
Giving up our place on the world stage is a small price to pay for stopping a handful of people coming from countries we benefited from or bombed isn't it?

But why shouldn't they get access to those things? They are human beings.

Because it’s our taxes that we pay for in order to keep our country going the way we are used to, NHS/schools/benefit system. There isn’t enough for these extra people.

Prisoners. The U.K. spends more on prisons than it does on asylum seekers.

And we’re happy for our tax money to be going on the service of keeping prisoners locked up

BellatrixpureBlood · 22/08/2026 19:14

Im sure there are plenty of people on here with their lovely guests rooms who would house a few. That’s only if you don’t object to them though.

Maybe none of the parties really want to stop the boats. Don't ask me why but it's a feeling I'm increasingly getting. As a die hard Tory I became suspicious during Johnson's term.

Edited

Do you feel they wanted to lose the election and the main parties dont want power then?

Or something more like the boats serve a purpose, like we are all talking about that and not noticing something else big like increasing numbers of billionnaires and whether they pay tax enough?

Or more drastic like those strange conspiracy rumours that 'they' are importing armies.

I suppose i just feel 'its actually quite hard' is the most likely answer?

But in reality the extra people are pensioners. The unintended consequences of of the NHS and benefits are people living longer. Economically they are the biggest drain on the system by a long shot, politically they voted for selling off our utilities and housing stock and for brexit. They voted for low taxes but complain when there aren't enough services. I have no problem with economic migrants because the alternative is an isolated island that will have few countries willing to trade with, less rights for its citizens and a poor economy because no one will want to invest here.

How does this relate to the boats?

So we REALLY don't have the resources to pay for more people on top of that then do we.

But billionnaires do pay vast amounts of tax, I don't know why people think they don't.

They also don't tend to hang around in groups harrassing schoolgirls, or gang rape women on Brighton beach.

I don't understand your last sentence. So, if it wasn't for economic migrants, no other country would trade with us?? How, exactly?

Stopping the boats is easy. Just fill in the English Channel and people will have to walk.

They were hypothetical reasons someone might have for believing political parties are chosing not to solve the problem.

Noone has answered why, other than its not actually that easy, noone has done it when its clearly a vote winner, even with fairly liberal people who prefer safer firms if asylum seeking.

I was genuinely trying to find out why people think this and the previous government's dont do this very easy thing at the risk of losing power over not doing it.

My personal opion was because its not actually easy.

Yello24 · 22/08/2026 20:55

Mahmood actually property understood the problem and has sensible plans. I think she’s been a great Home Secretary. Sadly she won’t be able to get her sensible plans past her party and the usual pressure groups.
It starts with detention. Call their bluff. They’d be safe and fed but unable to disappear and work and commit crime. Meets the legal obligations and protects the UK.

It isn't as things stand. It could be, with the right political will.

But why isnt there political will...thats what im asking? If its easy why isnt there any will to solve it.

Why do people believe none of the major parties want to solve the problem thats the most constantly talked about and not solving it could cost them the election?

The reason they haven't is because of threads like this. People putting up perfectly accurate and reasoned arguments are branded as idiots, uneducated... I've been called that at least twice in the thread. Therefore, the "chattering classes" that form the backbone on political discussion in the UK...that north London elite that encompasses both Labour and Tory "policy makers" believe that it's only a small minority of stupid white people....that's old stupid white people btw. Are the ones who are bleating on about the issue.

Until only a few months ago forums like mn would ban you for being anti immigration. Social media is full of loud people who believe they are completely correct and immigration of any type is good and anyone who says anything is a racist. Therefore fewer people say anything because they don't want to be seen as racist as even celebrating st George's day is racist don't you know.

Plus people live in complete echo chambers... because I am to the right, I've returned here because my YouTube feed is full of depressing right wing propaganda of how the country is falling apart...how islam is taking over... how the left are crushing free speech. Which is bollocks but I know university educated people who have believed complete bullshit "it's a fact, I saw it on YouTube".

Therefore, despite Brexit clearly sending a message that a lot of people are sick of open boarders...the two main parties do not seem to be able to read the room that reform has grown from nothing to have more members than the Tory parties, to be doing well at the polls and only losing by elections because of tactical voting.

TheContinent · 22/08/2026 21:16

Without the involvement of the military is impossible at this stage. Where the people will go?

Have you see a footage of migrants walking through the yard of a single French mother with 2 daughter who owns lovely farm house? The migrants develop new and new launching places

TheContinent · 22/08/2026 21:18

But....the topic deserves a constant rehashing because the migrants don't stop. One day if this continues, there will be packs of jobless men on asylum loitering on every single street, par, carpark etc = what shall we do then?

That's awful. Poor woman.

TheContinent · 22/08/2026 21:21

This time is going to come very very fast. They are opening the affluent areas now, giving accomodations to the men, ignoring the priority families with single mother and kids born here.....I don't want to imagine but unfortunately the reality started catching up faster than imagination....

EmeraldRoulette · 22/08/2026 21:23

@titbumwillypoo so what about the approach taken by Denmark and Sweden for example? They haven’t done any of the things you’ve said. They have successfully reduced numbers.

TheContinent · 22/08/2026 21:29

Everybody is watching in total disbilief. Taking in numbers like this, without giving them a push to integrate, give them a real sense of urgency to live like decent people, to fight to earn their money...you know the way we all on the Continent were raised, to study, to work - this is tearing the fabric of society....your government simply has lost any ability to think !

TheContinent · 22/08/2026 21:31

I follow foreign media....everything in the UK is a total talk all over the world. People are in total disbelief....

It is actually easy. Any body who tries to claim asylum is automatically declined and deported. As they have committed a crime in entering the UK illegally.

Naturally we still process legitimate applications for asylum but not these

Claiming asylum.is NOT a crime. You'd probably try to save your skin too if you came from a country with harsh laws against anyone seen as not conforming to the norm.

We can change the law to make it so.

They are fleeing a very safe country (France). I often take day trips to Paris on the train. It's a lovely place to be. Many countries don't have a right to asylum laws.
