Stopping the boats is easy...

All we have to do is abandon the ECHR, the Refugee Convention, the UN, the G7, NATO and the WTO. Then we can break maritime law and start sinking the boats. Obviously we'd have to proscribe the RNLI and change the job description of the coast guard to encourage people who want to sink boats to sign up. The fishermen will be fine.
Once we start with this deterrent we can start kicking out other undesirables. I'd start with the students. Coming over here using our universities as a gateway to benefits street. So we ban them, no more student visas. We might see a few universities close but no great loss, you learn more in the school of life.
After that take away access to ALL benefits for anyone not born here. Don't care if you've always worked and paid your taxes you're not ENGERLISH so less Dr Khalid more Dr Callum.
Obviously once we start making Britain Great again there may be a couple of teensy issues. Food might cost a lot more because the lefty EU might not want to trade with a nation that wants to isolate itself and kill innocent people. It'll be fine because there will be 100% employment because instead of benefits you'll have to do your 60 hours on the food farm to earn your pound credits.
Family will be legally obliged to look after any living relative as there won't be anyone left to do it because we deported them all. And obviously the NHS was full of loony lefties who went round caring for people instead of focusing on what really mattered, which is profit.
They're just a couple of the benefits of stopping the boats, because who cares about the bigger picture or unintended consequences eh?
Giving up our place on the world stage is a small price to pay for stopping a handful of people coming from countries we benefited from or bombed isn't it?

In 2025, the UK was below the EU member state average for asylum applications per head of population:

there were around 14 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living in the UK
compared to 18 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living across the 27 EU member states

On a list comprising the 27 EU member states and the UK, the UK ranked 12th on this measure.

And what is the population density of those countries? Which countries government is saying we need to build 300k houses per year?

Actually leaving NATO would probably be a benefit to me personally as a male of military service age. Russia is very unlikely to bomb us if we leave. And let's be honest the crap wars we've been dragged into over the last 25 years...I think I'm more at risk if we remain with the Americans as they are

Echr has little or no bearing on my life either.

Have you considered the potential impact on women's rights if UK leaves the echr? Disabled people's rights?

At the moment no impact. There will be a need to pass laws impacting on those rights.

But currently we can't deport rapists and peadophiles or other criminals

Outwiththenorm · 22/08/2026 16:45

You forgot about privatising the NHS. Private insurance all the way.

Free speech, privacy and fair trials. You benefit every day from it, to the extent that you take it for granted.

What was the acceptance rate for the UK compared to the EU member states? Other countries often have a higher number of applications, but only accept a very small percentage of them.

Exactly. So ignorant can’t even see how it works in the background every day.

Then why are they traveling to the UK? I refer to my previous answer...belief they will get Benefits/housing etc.

Benefits are usually better in other countries than the UK. A big reason they come to the UK is they can often speak English so job opportunities are increased

You don’t want to protect the GFA?

So many people (including lots of politicians including Nigel and Kemi wilfully) ignore the GFA!

DooDallyHallie · 22/08/2026 16:49

@titbumwillypoo How many refugees are you putting up in your house op?
or do you regard accommodating them as someone else's problem?

We can draft our own laws aligning with our own values.

And that will continue...oh no it hasn't because the current government has a two tier system anyway... suggest you attack an asylum centre. 2 years in prison. Suggest that far right activists have their throats cut, nada.

And as someone pointed out up thread...why are we spending so much on interpreters?

I can speak a bit of french, do you think they'd let me claim asylum there?

FleurDeFleur · 22/08/2026 16:54

@titbumwillypoo, why have you written ENGERLISH like that?

One pleaded guilty so did not go to trial. The other pleaded not guilty and was tried by jury. No two tier justice there. If Connolly had chosen to be tried by a jury she may well have been found not guilty too.

Eta: she didn't serve two years.

You do know that NATO has kept world peace for over 80 years.

Err do you want to reconsider that in light of:
Korea
Vietnam
Aden
The Falklands
Gulf War one and Two
Israel and it's neighbours since 1948, special study into Yom Kippur and 7 days
Ukraine
Georgia
Most of Africa during that period

A) the UK could easily make it a crime
B) just why are they coming here
C) amazingly we can track a star 10 billion light years away yet the French, despite being paid hundreds of millions can't stop boats leaving their coast
D) I actually really want an answer to B, given I know at least 40 people from the UK who would love to live in France.

A) no we couldn't, not without violating international law, and risking trade and other relationships with the wider world, and risking our position in the UN.

B) Many reasons. The commonality of English as a spoken language around the globe. Our cultural influence on media which means we're familiar. Family ties where they are already here. The attraction of good education. And so on.

C) The French stop quite a lot of boats.

D) See above. See also: Brexit.

Edited

You can't deport criminals anyway unless you have an agreement with the country that you are sending them too. Otherwise it's basically a declaration of war. Countries that you can deport to are basically offering a swap system. So sure, you can get rid of foreign rapists in return for British rapists... Sounds like a great idea! That's sure to help...
