Stopping the boats is easy...

All we have to do is abandon the ECHR, the Refugee Convention, the UN, the G7, NATO and the WTO. Then we can break maritime law and start sinking the boats. Obviously we'd have to proscribe the RNLI and change the job description of the coast guard to encourage people who want to sink boats to sign up. The fishermen will be fine.
Once we start with this deterrent we can start kicking out other undesirables. I'd start with the students. Coming over here using our universities as a gateway to benefits street. So we ban them, no more student visas. We might see a few universities close but no great loss, you learn more in the school of life.
After that take away access to ALL benefits for anyone not born here. Don't care if you've always worked and paid your taxes you're not ENGERLISH so less Dr Khalid more Dr Callum.
Obviously once we start making Britain Great again there may be a couple of teensy issues. Food might cost a lot more because the lefty EU might not want to trade with a nation that wants to isolate itself and kill innocent people. It'll be fine because there will be 100% employment because instead of benefits you'll have to do your 60 hours on the food farm to earn your pound credits.
Family will be legally obliged to look after any living relative as there won't be anyone left to do it because we deported them all. And obviously the NHS was full of loony lefties who went round caring for people instead of focusing on what really mattered, which is profit.
They're just a couple of the benefits of stopping the boats, because who cares about the bigger picture or unintended consequences eh?
Giving up our place on the world stage is a small price to pay for stopping a handful of people coming from countries we benefited from or bombed isn't it?

But it's just so easy OP, good old Nige promised us so.

Who cares about inconsequential trivialities like international laws and economic trading relationships when you can blow some brown people you don't like out of the water because patriotism.

It is actually easy. Any body who tries to claim asylum is automatically declined and deported. As they have committed a crime in entering the UK illegally.

Naturally we still process legitimate applications for asylum but not these

Under international law, it is not illegal to enter a country without authorisation in order to claim asylum.

So no, they have not committed a crime.

But they are in a safe country i.e. France so are not actually entertaining the country to claim asylum are they....there is nothing to stop them claiming asylum in France or any of the other equally prosperous and safe European countries they have passed through to get to France.

They are entering the UK as they believe they will get befits/housing/work not because they are in an unsafe country and need help.

Most of them do claim asylum in those equally prosperous counties.

Whether they have come from another safe country has no bearing on whether or not they have committed a crime in entering the UK illegally to claim asylum. The legal precedent for this was actually set by UK courts nearly 30 years ago.

So your point remains incorrect - if someone enters the UK illegally in order to claim asylum they do not commit a crime. It matters not whether they have come directly from their country of origin or travelled through e.g. France.

Then why are they traveling to the UK? I refer to my previous answer...belief they will get Benefits/housing etc.

A) the UK could easily make it a crime
B) just why are they coming here
C) amazingly we can track a star 10 billion light years away yet the French, despite being paid hundreds of millions can't stop boats leaving their coast
D) I actually really want an answer to B, given I know at least 40 people from the UK who would love to live in France.

Allseeingallknowing · 22/08/2026 16:24

Yes, stopping the boats would be easy if the boats were actually stopped- isn’t that what we’re paying France for?

In 2025, the UK was below the EU member state average for asylum applications per head of population:

there were around 14 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living in the UK
compared to 18 asylum applications for every 10,000 people living across the 27 EU member states

On a list comprising the 27 EU member states and the UK, the UK ranked 12th on this measure.

Don’t forget they speak English, yet we pay millions for interpreters!

They come all this way for £49.18 (or £9.95) each per week? You don't think that there may be other reasons?

No no no... they all speak English...which is one of the reasons I've been given in the past as to why they come here.

Strangely enough I worked for a doctor who did the disability benefits appeals and she had a woman from the ivory coast and who was given asylum here. She pointed out that the woman probably came here because of speaking English....as was shocked to discover the main language there is French.

You do understand that having no NATO and no ECHR could end up impacting you or are you just fixated on people who don’t deserve the same right?

But I have said a couple of times they believe... plus they get put up in hotels...a bit better than a camp outside of Calais. Plus if successful they get access to other benefits and housing.

There was a radio 4 book of the week a number of years ago. About an Afghan family who's oldest son had a heart defect. It was a true story. They were given right to remain in Austria...but still illegally entered the UK to use the NHS. The boy was 14 when he got here and died at 32 having never worked. They had access 3 years earlier to the Austrian health service...but they wanted to use the NHS. Austria's health service was rated at number 4 in the world. The NHS 7. The story is bloody sad on so many levels...of course the NHS is free

Actually leaving NATO would probably be a benefit to me personally as a male of military service age. Russia is very unlikely to bomb us if we leave. And let's be honest the crap wars we've been dragged into over the last 25 years...I think I'm more at risk if we remain with the Americans as they are

Echr has little or no bearing on my life either.

Legally they don’t have to claim in the first country they come to. Also to claim for asylum in the UK, you have to actually be in the UK.

Everydayimhuffling · 22/08/2026 16:40

Murder (sinking the boats) is often the simplest solution to many problems. It's not usually a good option though.

You do know that NATO has kept world peace for over 80 years.
