AIBU - to ask you for your worst girl and boy names

Asking on behalf of DD who is expecting. What are in your view the worst girl and boy names. for me they are the made up ones like Nevaeh and Jayden

I know someone who recently had a baby with a man who has a Norwegian great great grandfather. She was only with the bloke for 3 months before she fell pregnant, and she doesn't even know his family. never met his parents even... And they have called the baby Bjorn!

Firstly, I'm pretty sure the name is Swedish not Norwegian, and secondly the Norwegian 'connection' is 4 generations back. The baby daddy's grandfather's grandfather. He died 80 years ago!!! PMSL. Neither the baby daddy - (in his mid 30s,) nor his father (in his mid 60s) have ever met old 'Bjorn' who was born in the 19th century!

I'm not mocking the name, as I would never do that, but calling hm Bjorn, because the baby daddy's great great grandfather was Norwegian (and wasn't even called bloody Bjorn!) is farcical!

Whoever mentioned Allegro/Allegra, Allegra was the name of Lord Byron’s natural daughter.

I love the name Magnus. Funnily enough my great grandmother was a Shetlander so I’m taking it as a sign 😂

See, I had no idea how to pronounce it when I first read it (on MN!). I wasn’t aware of the Greek goddess.

Why? I know a 90 year old Alfie. Michael Caine was the eponymous Alfie in the 60s. It's nothing new

There was even a play by George Bernard Shaw called 'Candida'. And there were a few Saint Candida's. I knew a Candida born in the 60s, and usually called Candy. So far as I know, she wasn't teased about her name. I think the unfortunate associations are fairly recent.

I know that makes a British person think of Putin right now, but it's a very common name in Eastern Europe. Even Zelensky has a variant of the name.

But not to actually name a real baby surely 😱

I’m in my 50s. No one my age is called Barry! It’s for someone much older. Saying that a family friend called their son Barry (probably around 40 now) after Barry Sheene the racing driver and as a kid I wondered why they were giving him an old man name.

Worst is Jessica. A perfectly reasonable name - I just dislike it.

Anything hyphenated

for boys - anything that’s half a name like Alfie, Freddie, Reggie, Max, Archie etc.

also Jaiden, Kayden, Braiden etc.

But Alfie and Eddie are shortened version of a full name! We’re as some of these cute names aren’t. So my son is Theodore, he was Teddy but as he’s gotten older he goes by Theo cos Teddy to him was babyish: so I am glad we gave him the full name and he had the option of what to go by.
