AIBU - to ask you for your worst girl and boy names

Asking on behalf of DD who is expecting. What are in your view the worst girl and boy names. for me they are the made up ones like Nevaeh and Jayden

Rubi is the spelling of the word itself in some countries, and used a name there. It's not a misspelling because it's not the same as English.

Please forgive any spelling mistakes as I'm not sure about some of them and not all of these are of Viking origin but they are definitely Shetland names. Magnus, usually known as Magnie, Harald, Hakon or Haki, Erasmus known as Rasmi, Bjorn, Ragna, Lowrie. Freya, Vaila, Sunniva, Lowra, and Ingrid. I know there's more but I can't mind them at the moment.

Alan. I do actually know a 14 year old called Alan.
Beyonce lives along the road. She's the palest looking little thing. She has sister called Gypsy

I dunno, because times change. I have a friend who thinks this, and her kids (ranging in age from 5-11, are called things like Stephen and Paul. But poor Stephen and Paul now stand out, and surely are going to stand out even more among Alfie and Eddie when all grown adult men are called names like that, aren’t they?!

As others have said, these are established African names. I work with nurses with names like this and Gift, Patience, Blessing. I don’t give it a second’s thought.

An American couple named their son Wrigley-Jay, recently. Apparently, the mother is a baby name consultant.

Aeneas and Ulysses. I am a classics buff, but even I had to snigger/roll my eyes (sorry, just seems too pretentious). Oh, and Grim (an American friend's son; I think grim may not mean the same to them as it does to us?)

Over 40 people seem to be in agreement based on reactions and responses, so I am hardly a lone voice.

What on earth possesses people to use the name Nellie? They are going to get called Smelly Nellie or Nellie the Elephant. The playground is a cruel place.

An acquaintance has recently given birth to a little Carol. Named after her late grandma. I expect young Barry, mentioned at the start, will be named after a much loved relative too.

why are so many people struggling to understand that post. The poster said that she doesn’t like names which connect to people she has known personally who have been arseholes. That’s it.

My s London state school kids (and all their classmates) seamlessly absorbed a range of names - West African, East African, Polish, Vietnamese, Hindu Indian, Arabic etc etc, as well as ‘creative’ and rarer British names, all without the slightest need for the immature classist, racist ‘ooh er’ ignorance of the average MN thread.

My Dc has a friend Nellie and NONE of that has been said.

They just don’t tease and bully around names.

It comes of living with and actually understanding diversity and respect.

The notion that it's sensible to check if the snobs who dominate this site find a name acceptable is so depressing I don't know where to start.

Who thought it was a good idea to have two cars such similar names? One letter different! Don't they have something like Equity Cards for motors like they have for actors, they need to change if there's already an actor with that name ?

Personally don’t like the really popular names, especially boys names like Harry, Henry, Alfie, Archie, Jackson and all the names like Jayden, Kayden etc, but I appreciate there’s clearly lots that do like them.
