To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

You understand he chose to leave, right, and he’s no more at risk in the uk than anywhere else. It’s not like he was exiled, he chose to leave, then did interviews and wrote a book to tell everyone just how horrible his family was and how much of a victim he was.

But none of those things he did were illegal, personally I’m more uncomfortable with the idea of somebody not being able being able to speak out or even call his family out even if it was just his opinion.

Making threats to harm someone is illegal though and he should be able to travel safely in the UK.

It’s absolutely bonkers they are coming back!

Did they leak it because the pair of them cannot stay out of headlines maybe they need more dosh from a new expose book or did the Palace leak it because they want Andrew out of the headlines a who knows…

They do remind me of that couple in a family who cause drama at every event and then complain they didn’t get invited to a family BBQ. They know no one’s likes them but want to go anyway so they can put the photos on Facebook 😂😂😂😂

😂😂😂 Megan was just here recently for a episode of our MasterChef apparently nobody was allowed to speak to her the day she was there

Laurmolonlabe · Yesterday 08:51

She has every right to worry about her security, she just doesn't have the right to have the UK taxpayer pay for it, she and her husband steppoed back from royal duties and they therefore do nothing for the UK public, therefore they cannot expect us to foot the bill.

I would hope that tax funded security (ie. the police) would indeed come to your aid if you were being burgled.

It is entirely reasonable to take the view that the state shouldn’t pay for their round the clock security, but I can entirely understand the worry when you read so many people who will never, ever meet them frothing at the mouth in anger just because she exists.

Well you are exaggerating here akin to the comments you say some people make about her which you say are unhinged.

"Frothing at the mouth because she exists"?

Are people really frothing at the mouth? No.

More importantly because " she exists" ? People criticise her because of things she has done and said, lies she has told. It's that simple.

You've scuppered your OP.

Completely agree.
I am not anti royal or pro royal but I seriously don't understand the hate for Meghan Markle.

Don't you? She mocked the Queen and called the British people racisr. She said that she would never come back. She shouldn't come here.

Was she? I thought it was master chef Australia and this is nonsense according to the reports directly from the contestants she was described by people on set as friendly, engaged and interested in other contestants! Even introducing Harry on the phone to them.

This is such a good example of the absolute bs spouted about her and the twisting of the narrative!

YANBU @Hardware252525252525. The level of hatred of this woman and her family is deranged.🤯

Steady on! You may find that nobody actually hates her - can't stand her myself, but having had that thought, I forget about her and get on with my day.

rocklivia · Yesterday 08:59

simpsonthecat · Yesterday 08:48

I agree. I think people want them to have a face transplant like John Travolta in that film, and go and live in the Amazon jungle. But then what would certain people talk about? 🤣

Harry and Meghan are quite entitled to come back here and live their lives with their children, in whatever form that takes. He is connected with different charities here like WellChild that he has been actively involved with for 20 years. And Scotty's Little Soldiers, about 10 years I think.

He has many ties over here, good for them, I worry about security and the media but let's hope

It does seem a bit odd though doesn't it? To live in a country they despised ? To live near family they had so much issue with ? Even closer to the British press?

Can you find one quote that shows they ‘despise the UK’ just one?!

ZenNudist · Yesterday 09:02

Not unreasonable to worry about security but unreasonable to expect the British taxpayer to fund it. They didn't think through security costs before Megxit and have been having a tantrum about it ever since!

Well I'm not going to spend my time looking for that exact word but how about this as an alternative ?

To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

The absolute BS that people make up! There are posters on MN who appear to have access to their banking and investment accounts because they know they are broke.
They know how much mortgage they have too.

They also are in the kitchen when meghan and harry have conversations because they know exactly the reasons why they are coming here.
It is laughable.

cityliving99 · Yesterday 09:18

If only Harry had not written that book, betrayed his own family and used them to make millions of dollars. Then that awful Oprah interview.
The queen died knowing Harry didn’t want to part of the family anymore. She was apparently heartbroken.
Unlike Harry, William has kept a dignified silence on all this. But there must be more to it. He must have really hurt William, or even worse, Katherine.
When Charles dies, will it all come spilling out or will William take it to the grave?
I genuinely don’t think we should pay for security, but Charles could be the better person in all this and offer to help out. Harry has a lot of money of his own and he could also contribute.
If they keep a low profile I am sure it will be OK. If they start trying to steal the limelight and go to every celebrity event and parade themselves on TV, then it will perhaps be a different story.

Yanbu. Some peoples obsession with them is utterly bizarre.
Also, Liz Truss gets taxpayer funded police protection for the rest of her life. Seems reasonable the Kings actual son and his family should too.
I say that as a republican.

All former prime ministers get security regardless of how long they served

Honestly you can easily fact check most of what’s being said on here and most of it is outright lies and some comments just plain bonkers! Explains so much about where we are as a country with our inability to check before raging and regurgitating nonsense!

It will be the same people who lined up to have a pop at Jason Arday but then piped down when it ended tragicly. She can move to where she wants, it literally has nothing to do with any of us. If people weren't so vitriolic about them online then maybe they wouldn't need to worry about protection. Given what just happened to Ann Widdecombe, there are a thousand more loons on standby willing to have a go at Meghan I'm sure

Edited

By ‘have a pop’ at Jason Arday I presume you mean expose him as the con man and fraud he was? A man whole stole other people’s work, who didn’t turn up to lectures for students who were paying thousands of pounds to taught be qualified staff? A man who put forward divisive theories based on nothing but his own opinion and made up quotes?? That he chose to end his own life when his lies were exposed does no stop them being lies or stop the need to investigate how he avoided scrutiny through accusations of racism, threats of legal action, and reporting people who asked questions to the police.

I don't think this is all correct. H&Ms original idea (and the statement they made) was that they wanted to be half in and half out working royals which the queen declined. Ultimately they didn't want to be full time working Royals but there are plenty of of Royals in the family who also aren't working.
It's pretty well known that Kate and Meghan didn't get on, that wasn't just in Harry's book the queen's dresser wrote something similar. William is obviously hurt but Harry also.
As for stealing the limelight. I don't really know what that means. Do you mean not turning up in public, not doing there charity work etc...why wouldn't they do that?

Your username is apt.

The point about the Jason Arday hate is that you need to look at how similar situations are treated when the focus is not a young black man. Are there any other incidents of alleged plagiarism at Cambridge and other universities? How have those individuals been treated ? Yes he was high profile and in my opinion used as such for other reasons but even allowing for that the comparison needs to be examined .

See the media treatment of Kate and Meghan and avocados ( yes really) for a similar scenario :
When Kate ate them she was being healthy.
When Meghan ate them she was destroying the rainforest .

The media literacy in the UK is abysmal. A bad combination when we are so heavily propagandised.

UniquePinkSwan · Yesterday 07:39

Women are also a realistic threat. Are you saying women don’t do anything wrong? There are numerous cases, especially stalking, that dispute this.

I think you’d be hard pressed to name a female that has attempted to kill anyone famous though.

There is a just over or under 550 murders a year in the uk which includes terrorist attacks and things like the lorry driver charged with the murder of Chinese immigrants in the back. So murder is rare. 2/3 less women are killed then men.
Less than 9% of women were charged suspects.

Domestic abuse is the what kills women. Statically she’s got more chance of Harry doing her in than some random female.

Backtoschooloncemore · Yesterday 09:38

Half in half out basically meant commercially exploiting the fact they were royals which clearly was totally unacceptable. If the queen had not said no then parliament would have needed to have stepped in on that.

Sereine · Yesterday 09:38

I think it's always been accepted that the family need security when they're in the UK, and they are entitled to an extra level of security because of who they are and in particular if there are any live threats against them.

The problem has always been that Harry thinks he is entitled to a higher level than RAVEC and the police assess as necessary, to which their response is basically "Fine, you want more, you pay for it". Which seems entirely reasonable to me. It's been through the courts, that should be the end of the debate.

Which other Cambridge professors have rung such a tale of lies? Whose appointment was so widely celebrated through the pres? Who appeared so regularly on the BBC? Whose work was so poor quality? Did they also shout ‘racism’ when questioned about their work? Threaten legal action? Try to get those asking questions a criminal record?

metellaestinatrio · Yesterday 09:43

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 08:14

You make an interesting point re the hate being online and not reality .

It was a narrative started by the media ( fed by the royals in my opinion) because Harry leaving was a threat to the status quo
The daily posts on H and M are a form of addiction and if they reach 30 hate threads mumsnet really have a duty of care to set up a helpline . Joke!

@simpsonthecat I have also reported the odd post and they were not deleted.
Against my better judgment I have been posting in the royal boards to push back a bit ( I would vote to get rid of the Windsors tomorrow) . The fact that a recent thread was referring to something seen on GB news brought me to my senses . Good luck @simpsonthecat and other free thinkers who continue to venture there!

Harry and Meghan never wanted to leave in the first place. They wanted half in half out, as their original statement (issued without discussing anything with the late Queen aka the CEO of the family business they wanted to remain part of) showed. When they were told that was impossible, they decided to leave altogether and then we suddenly got the “freedom flight” narrative about it being unsafe to be in the UK and then having to leave for the sake of their health. If that were genuinely the case, they would never have sought half in half out in the first place.

Yep. By all accounts she’s a nice person

mumsneedwine · Yesterday 09:43

She doesn't have to live here if feels unsafe ? Why would you ? Seems v strange to want to live in a country with people you have called racist, stuck up and you don't like as in laws live 'in a cage'. Oh and you caused your hubbie's grandparents immense pain while they were dying so for that alone I'd suggest you'll not be happy here. And you'll have to perform that weird curtsy (that no one ever on the planet has ever done before).

Harry is an idiot. He still thinks he deserves to be loved regardless of his actions. He's in his 40s not a child. Grow up, apologise for trashing your family all over the every media and go live a peaceful non royal life that you claimed you wanted. Just don't expect me to pay for it.
