To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

I don’t really like her but she and the Children need some protection . Harry was paying privately in the States why can’t he do that here?

Cos they can't be armed here.

She has every right to do that, and we have every right to dislike her for it.
She can’t have it all ways.

Vague dislike of celebrities is fair enough but some people are absolutely unhinged.

However, some people comment fairly and reasonably and are called "unhinged" and "haters". It gets very extreme.

I don’t know about unhinged.
People dislike hypocrisy- she is full of it.
They dislike the race card being used when legitimate criticism is made - she does that at every turn.
They dislike privilege being assumed and abused - she did and continues to do both.
They dislike our royal family being dragged through the mud - they’ve BOTH done this persistently since before they left.
They dislike people using their connection to a family and a country they profess to detest, to make huge sums of money - this is their entire life.

Anyone who doesn’t ‘get’ the hate has really not been paying attention. They owe the royal family and the people of this country a HUGE apology and a big dose of humility.

Seajaye · Yesterday 14:59

Not sure your question is totally about security, if you mean should this be funded by the UK tax payer. There are or were wealthy enough celebrities able to arrange their own security in USA and Portugal, so there no obvious reason why she isn't able to make the same arrangements in the UK. She might even employ the same team..

But I do agree that the media is focussing on unproven speculation fuelling trolls.

I just don't understand how the UK was too dangerous for her and the children 2 weeks ago, causing her to change travel plans last minute and cancel public engagements, but now they are moving here and enrolled in schools. Has the threat disappeared?

I don't have a strong opinion about either of them but they do seem to make a lot of noise for a couple who don't want public attention

Presumably you can understand that ad-hoc requirements are different from being able to have a permanent set up you can control?

Out of genuine interest what kind of comments are unhinged? Are you referring to MN or to other sites too?

I think you've mentioned before the fact that people have said her children are not hers . It's been pointed out on MN that this is not something believed by any regular posters on here. So what other unhinged things are said?

Not me, personally, no. But the ‘British people who are far more racist than Americans’ do, yes. Cheeky bitch.

Why would you move somewhere where you feel so at risk? If anything a permanent base is worse in that scenario as everyone knows exactly where you and your children are. The reality is there wasn't a significant risk to life and limb. No more than any other celebrity and they all manage fine

Benjithedog · Yesterday 15:19

Other non serving members of the RF family don’t get security so why should she. Their security is now a private matter to be financed by them as they did in America

Harry was paying privately in the States why can’t he do that here?

This was gone into ad nauseam at the time of Harry's RAVEC case. Once again, for those with short memories:
He can pay for private security.
What he can't do, as a private individual, is have access to classified intelligence or, in the UK, have private security personnel who carry guns.

I think his security is bespoke if RAVEC think there is a risk then his security level is raised temporarily.

Monty36 · Yesterday 15:34

I understand why people are cross with her. And why she is not trusted.
But some people fill in the gaps about people in their head.
They believe gossip as fact too.

Many will make observations based on what they have seen and heard so far.
Some people can tip over what is reasonable though. And forget to manage themselves.

She's going up appear in a Guy Ritchie drama series. They will have security.

Why do you care? Just ignore them, they don’t affect your life in any way. They owe you nothing.

I didn’t say that, you must have got mixed up.

Ive already said Mumsnet, social media and on newspaper sites. On Mumsnet there are people insisting he’s skint, that she’s leaving him, that she’s controlling him etc. It is utterly bonkers.

That seems a bit vanilla. They've said worse about William and Kate, and other royals and celebs?

She’s never said this, but even if she had, she’s a black woman who’s had experience of both countries and she’s allowed to voice them. Why are you so angry with her? Surely your anger should be directed at those who’ve made her feel uncomfortable whilst in the UK?

I don't read social media.
That was on MN.
Plus suggesting people who have been fined £millions might be skint is hardly "insane".

I've been thinking and I can't remember Meghan saying much about her security. Most of the security comments have come from Harry. It doesn't change the discussion of course but I do think Meghan is slightly being given Harry's concerns and criticused for his statements not her own.

True. She's never complained about security, to my knowledge. That's entirely Harry's domain it would seem.
