To dislike the vitriol on here about their return

VictoriaSpunge · Yesterday 09:10

Just read through two different threads about their return to this country and I could feel my energy draining the more I read the comments.
There is so much vitriol and lots of snidy remarks in the comments.
Why not just leave them be, let them get on with their lives and wish them well?

I imagine the conversation went “omg, those cucking funts are coming back!!” We absolutely need to remove the Sussexes titles, succession, counsellor of state. Call Sir David to implement this asap”

You have an extremely unhealthy approach to this whole situation.

Dislike doesn't scratch the surface of it.

There's a seething hatred, out and unashamed.

I'd like to see posters sign their posts with their real names. It's far too easy to hide thia ugliness behind a username.

You misunderstood. I was answering OP’s original AIBU question asking if he/she was unreasonable to dislike the vitriol.

I personally am pretty flatline about Harry & Co. Not really bothered either way .

It's a great move, and about time someone roused the RF from their superior slumber and shook things up a bit. What a time to be alive!

Meghan and Harry couldn't rouse anything much, could they, to be fair. Juggling and jam making is about the size of it. I don't wish them ill, but they're hardly human dynamos.

I’m excited about it! I think we need a little boost in this country with the way things are. I think they can inject a little glamour and patriotism back into this country. Young people like them. I do too!

Patriotism? How so?

They made a big song and dance about leaving, slagged off his family in a very public way, continually said it wasn’t safe here and then suddenly they make a big announcement they are coming back. Of course people are going to comment on it and if they were so negative about everything then people might react negatively about them coming back.

They weren’t negative about everything. Harry must have said a thousand times that he loves the UK and that they didn’t want to leave completely and they wanted to find a solution where he could do HIHO. After all, it turns out his cousin Andrew had been doing this for years! I am sure an arrangement could have been arrived at if they had thought about it properly.

Home is where you go when no one else wants you.

Or, your children are of school age and you want them to have a British education.

People have lost their lives due to media whipped up public hatred towards them. How utterly ridiculous to boil it down to ‘well people feel how they feel’. It’s a dangerous, vicious, parasocial problem, and it’s about time more was done to control it.

Edited

Hopefully as a result of each sad situation of lives lost due the media exposure those that anonymously post and feed into the frenzy will understand that there are consequences.

Put the shoe on the other foot and imagine yourselves exposed to such opinion.

Yes they are exposed because of who they are but they are still people, who none of you really know the truth about no matter what you think.

I think there's a balance, isn't there? Nobody should be above criticism and reproach. If people seek publicity, they can't expect it to come with no strings. If people are controversial, they've got to expect clap back.
Having said that, it should be reasonable and measured, and be critical of actions and statements rather than anything very personal.

I couldn’t agree more with this. It’s bordering on brain-washing.

Maybe there should be a D notice on anything related to them now. If not reported on, it will soon not be spoken about. Media - social, print, TV, and audio are responsible for the majority of the whipping up of vitriol and comment about them.

I mean who really cares all that much. It is becoming a hysterical contagion because outlets like the Mail constantly report crap about them. Again who cares?

People are being manipulated and whipped into a frenzy about a little family and a bigger more powerful one, when the reality is they are a microcosm of a lot of families up and down the land anyway.

Best post I've read on the subject of Harry and Meghan, I wholeheartedly agree and also think the number of threads spouting vitriol and nastiness are vile. I don't know the couple concerned I also don't know how much is in their bank accounts and neither does anyone else.I also do not know about the family dynamics but what I do know is the media are largely responsible for all the nastiness

I wonder if they are hoping their children will be able to represent the family when they are older. Perhaps one reason why they insisted on royal titles for them.

Yes, I was wondering that. Being royal is obviously very important to H&M and I suspect they want a full royal life for their children. A British education will surely help with this.

Because of my DGDs love of K Pop, we are having many conversations about fame and media exposure. Thankfully she doesn’t have an IPhone, she has a Samsung, she is 15.

We speak of those that seek publicity and I want her to understand that of course it comes with consequences.

We as adults also have as much responsibility as much as those that seek publicity to exercise balance.

No one is above reproach, if H&M have been irresponsible they have to grow up and learn as much as, the not always but sometimes irresponsible media and the haters.

We all need to be held accountable and we all have to protect our DC from blind belief in what is reported in the media.

dottiedodah · Yesterday 21:39

I think gossip is usually unpleasant. However HAM have largely brought it on themselves tbh.writing books which are upsetting, speaking to Oprah and so on.i think yes give them another chance.however you can't be surprised when people are wary.it will take time I think.WAC also are very popular and there is likely to be some tensions there.

Blueburner · Yesterday 21:48

Well I think a lot of people are interested in the Invictus games. Celebrating our veterans and athletes in Birmingham. People in this country, whatever their background, really need to unite around being British and enjoying a sense of national pride that is accessible to everybody. We should all be proud to be British and nobody should feel excluded from that. I think H&M can be used to help with that.

They're already in their 40s, so saying they should "grow up" is a bit strange. They haven't always acted wisely or with respect and I think it's fine to point that out and criticise their words and actions. That's where it should stop though, and be reasonable.

Mr and Mrs Hewitt?

SquirrelGG · Yesterday 22:14

Well they only have themselves to blame. If they had done what they said they wanted and lived a quiet life out of the public eye all would be fine, but they did the complete opposite, whining constantly at the same time.

Screamingabdabz · Yesterday 22:23

I find it more surprising that people who “wish them well” can just easily brush away all the traitorous, bullying, lying, tax wasting, self regarding, narcissistic behaviour.

Harry was raised with all the best privilege that British taxpayers pay for. Of course people are pissed off at the hypocrisy and lack of integrity. Why aren’t you? Perhaps that’s what you need to reflect on.

MerryUmberHedgehog · Yesterday 22:25

Peoppe have parasocial relationships with them. That is why.

Come on, I do not believe everything I read in the press, and I certainly don’t think every accusation or interpretation of H&Ms behaviour should just be accepted as fact.

Wishing someone well doesn’t mean I’ve “brushed aside” proven wrongdoing. It means I’m not going to build my view of a person entirely from hostile media coverage.

You can think H&M behaved appallingly at times without needing to hate him or wish him harm. Perhaps that’s worth reflecting on too.

We are not all fans though. Reasonable people, yes, fans no!

You would call your self a reasonable person, rather than a hater, wouldn’t you?

The saddos are thrilled to have reason to hate Meghan again.
