It’s autumn!

Okay, maybe not meteorological autumn yet, but it’s definitely in the air. There’s that cool edge to the breeze and it’s chilly in the morning and evening. After the long hot summer we’ve had it’s definitely needed!

AIBU to be excited?!

It certainly feels that way! I was just noticing how dark it is, pretty much pitch black already. And the leaves are rustling in a crispy autumn way.

We still have a little light left but the nights are definitely drawing in. There’s a chill to the air at times that wasn’t there a few days ago.

Got rain forecast all week here in the midlands, I’ve had to put a hoodie on and shut the windows.

Ive seen multiple suggestions of a precursor to a “Beast from the East” style polar vortex developing in the Atlantic which suggests an extremely cold, wet winter. I’m so excited at the possibility of -20°c real feels and heaps of rain/snow

Sandsnake · 19/08/2026 21:06

Nah, it’s shit. Been mostly watching the amazing summer from my office window and we’re off on holiday tomorrow…

Genuinely pleased for the wildlife and firefighters though.

EmeraldRoulette · 19/08/2026 21:09

I reckon we’ve got at least another month ago before we notice any of those things in my part of the world, which recorded 28° today.

OnlyUsername · 19/08/2026 21:09

Time to get out my practical autumn handbag.

It’s autumn!

No.

And when it does come all these moany posts we’ve had about glorious sunshine will be replaced by people boring on about snuggling in autumn and drinking mountains of mugs of sickly hot chocolate

I’ve loved this summer. But it’s also been a drain trying to work in it each day. It’s nice to get some relief, and to be able to sleep!

This will be me I’m afraid. Autumn people have had to put up with months of summer people saying how fantastic it is that it’s been boiling hot with no rain since June so it’s only fair.

dudsville · 19/08/2026 21:20

It rained here today for the first time in 2 months. It was like something magical was happening. We sat with our cups of tea just watching it and feeling so happy. We aren't sun seekers, today's weather was a great relief, even if temporary, but nothing beats cold and dry, crisp weather!

Clafoutie · 19/08/2026 21:25

Still 25 indoors here, and we seem to be the only place now not to have had any rain 😩 I keep seeing posts about cool and rain and starting to feel like I must have come adrift from the rest of the country!

BunnyLake · 19/08/2026 21:25

I don’t mind the weather cooling but I hate the dark mornings and early evenings, they really affect me in a negative way. I noticed it was darker than normal when I woke up and it made my heart sink 😕

I have noticed myself getting a lot more tired in the mornings. The sun lamp will be back out soon, and the vitamin d tablets are starting tomorrow!

Honestly can't come soon enough! I'm in the SE and it's been so hot and dry for months, it was 26 today so still warm, around 15-18 is perfect for me. Oh, I also hate hot chocolate and crunchy leaves, do like sleeping properly and being able to function normally (which I haven't been able to do since May)!

It’s not autumn and I’m not excited

SnowFrogJelly · 19/08/2026 21:33

Yeh I really love when it gets dark at 4pm 🙄

It's cold here and it's going to be 4 degrees cooler tomorrow. It rained most of the morning
Thank goodness I'm off abroad soon for some decent weather.

RampantIvy · 19/08/2026 21:35

It definitely feels autumnal in South Yorkshire.

We have finally had some proper rain and the pavements and paths are covered with autumn leaves.

WhatNextImScared · 19/08/2026 21:36

It’s still bloody boiling in London. I had sweat pooling in my bra again today

And watching Gilmore Girls. If you are going to moan , make sure your moan is complete. 🎃

dontforgetme · 19/08/2026 22:21

@Hycosaneyedrops Really? I’m Midlands too and I’m feckin boiling! Windows open, lying on top of the duvet stark naked boiling! House is 25.5.

Wildflowerswildhorses · 19/08/2026 22:43

It's 26 degrees here in Vancouver, still very warm at night. Forest fires raging all over BC
