What’s With Cillian Murphy? AIBU?

So last night, I was watching TV.

Family piled on the sofa. Kids… dogs… we were laughing and chatting and generally enjoying the craic. Also in the room, just out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Cillian Murphy. He was steadily working through a pile of ironing which had accumulated in the hot weather cause it was too hot to tackle right? He was smiling. Joining in the banter. He joined us on the sofa and then ordered a Deliveroo. Which was proper nice of him cause I was feeling a bit peckish.

AIBU to have wanted this scenario to have played out before my dog woke me? She likes to get up onto the bed round about 7am. Would have been nice to have seen what Cillian ordered 😐

Yes you’re unreasonable. Get up and go walk the dog.
No. It was lovely of Cillian to wade through your ironing pile and order snacks but did he pay?

@Markisagreatname Really??? You come on here to stir trouble. You’re provocative and goady and just not willing to enter into a bit of fun (or just go away) and YOU get MY comments deleted? Dear me.

Well, my dream would have the young Michael J Fox or Orlando Bloom doing the ironing (or washing up, or any other chores). So YABU 🤣

Delphiniumandlupins · 20/08/2026 23:01

Aidan Turner has been helping out in my garden. It's quite overgrown so there's a lot of shirtless scything. Doesn't work very fast though, so he's been back several nights.

MyFairLady22 · 20/08/2026 23:08

Oooh… saw Aidan Turner in Dangerous Liaisons. Now there’s a chap I’d be happy to let loose tidying my drawers.

I think I would've been quite disappointed if the thing he was doing in my dream was the ironing!

agreed 😆

In Birmingham, he got off the train with Charlotte Riley (Tom Hardys wife, who is absolutely lovely) a few hours before a premier event at Cineworld. I was walking behind them but didn't intrude.

But spoke to them both (and Tom Hardy) that evening at the event.

If I was in a room with Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley at the same time. I think i might actually die. Or put a bag on my head as not to spoil that amount of hotness all at once 😆

I met him in London on the tube one night in 2011 such a nice guy! Explained we named our son Cillian after him. Was very discreet as knew he didn't like a fuss so didn't ask for a photo. He wrote me a note. Prized possession in our house

Edited

He could have ironed the note before he gave it to you. Disappointing let down from Cillian.

Is this meant to be funny? Because it’s not.

It’s called whimsy Mark, some of us have and the rest of you must just suffer on I suppose.

Tableforjoan · 19/08/2026 20:54

How very rude of your dog.

However I heard he is not very good at ironing.

🤣

DecisionTime123 · 20/08/2026 23:37

Whose dog isn't good at ironing?

Last I saw of Ryan Gosling he was up and getting ready for work wearing a pale blue suit which I believe included a waistcoat so must have been a fairly high profile job. I think he was a bit stressed what with all the DIY that needed doing.

I just had a lie in. If he's back tonight I'll be advising him to take some annual leave (what with the bank holiday coming up) and get some shelving up.

No suffering here.

And with all the bad stuff going down, what harm can it possibly do, eh?

You know he's about 5 feet tall?

Which one? The Dog? Cillian Murphy? @Markisagreatname ? Surely not Ryan Gosling?! (googles ...)

DecisionTime123 · Yesterday 01:17

Phew. Panic over. RG is 6 foot and CM is 5' 9" - I mean that's reasonable surely? Both can reach essential things on shelves.

Yeah but 5'9 is a euphemism for about 5'6". Doesn't matter though you can dream him taller. Also Ryan gosling is definitely tall. Although I prefer Ryan Reynolds. Bit more meaty.

Did he have any clothes on? He was naked in a film the other day but he was shooting monsters definitely not ironing!

Naked, fighting monsters? Well thats just a recipe for disaster. What film, just for Health and Safety investigation? Obviously.

WhatNextImScared · Yesterday 07:27

If that was a genuine dream I am so sorry for you that you were woken 😅

Definition…

“Whimsy is a noun meaning a playful, amusing, or lighthearted quality, or a fanciful and unpredictable idea. It describes behaviour or art driven by sudden imagination rather than logic or serious purpose.”

I so love that rarely used word that I think today, I shall don an Oscar Wilde style great coat and cain, and waft about my small northern market town, just for my own amusement. Thank you @TheOriginalEmu

@Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride Excellent point. Naked fighting? Not much to grab ahold of … be like wrestling a slippery eel.

@WhatNextImScared The dream was real. Sadly, all good things…
I’ve a vivid dream skill set. Like free tickets to the cinema, most nights ☺️

@Switcher Again, an excellent point size matters, or not (depending on your personal preference) but models of ironing boards feature adjustable height settings, allowing you to raise or lower the surface within that range to match your comfort. And accommodate Cillian’s dimensions.

@DecisionTime123 My dog never does the ironing. Even with the adjustable height board, she doesn’t have the grip. She IS a dog, obviously! 🤣 She will fetch items which are of absolutely no use to me and well.. that’ll do dog… that’ll do.

Don’t get me started on Jake Gyllenhaal’s standout performance in my dream last night. It involved packing boxes (ready for my imminent house move, I think). He’s in good shape is all I’ll say. And surprisingly strong for a slim 6 footer!

I don't have an ironing pile, barely anything needs ironing, does he dust?

My fantasy husband is 5ft 9 and that is just perfect for me, I’m 5ft 1.5. Besides with a body like that who cares about his height!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Yesterday 09:49

Now I want Tom Hiddleston to come and do my ironing. Mind you, I don't even think I have an iron - never mind, he can just stand there and sort of sway back and forth and pretend that he's ironing. I might make him a cheese sandwich if he's lucky. Or Loki.

Anyone know if Tom Hiddleston likes cheddar or would he prefer brie, do you think, while he sways around in front of my kitchen window?

Thedisappearingbag · Yesterday 10:04

Oh no, @Vroomfondleswaistcoat you don't want Tom H to get into your kitchen. Did you not see the unsettling advert he did where he made food for the viewer, in a slightly overbearing and too-earnest way?

Tom H is probably best as a dog walker, burn off all that enthusiasm and energy.
