AIBU to think if we need to politely ask men not to rape women (or men), then we don't want such people in the UK?

Don't rape, sexually assault or make kissing noises' at people, asylum seekers warned in guidance about living in UK
UK arrivals have been told to treat women equally, not sexually assault partners or have sex with children in a new Home Office pamphlet. As well as the guidebook, a series of posters have also been designed by the government.

This video is approximately three minutes long and gives you a good idea of how men from certain other cultures think about raping women:

"what about the consequences of raping a woman though?" Asks Ross Kemp, "what about the impact on her?"

"Well yes, she might scream and wake somebody up. Or we might get an STI"

Sickening. I don't know how Ross Kemp kept his composure listening to them.

The age of consent is different in different countries.

in Islam, like in the U.K. up until the 1990s rape within marriage is not a thing.

understanding the laws of the country you are in is important.

plenty of British people assume the law elsewhere is the same as the U.K. and come a cropper.

In Dubai all sex outside marriage is illegal but the authorities largely turn a blind eye. This British person was arrested and jailed however

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq8zdvzj5vwo

This is exactly it.

We've heard time and time again people coming from other cultures don't know our culture and laws. So the government creates an education booklet. Apparently they shouldn't be telling people that, the people should just know.

If the people don't know, then how do they know if they aren't told?

If people already know it's just a reminder.

British people go abroad and commit crimes because they are ignorant of local laws. Dubai for example.

FWIW the government has been making sure asylum seekers within hotels have access to this kind of information for ages. It's run every few months in our area. I know it's been requested more often and perhaps that why this booklet has been produced in the interim. This is just the first time it's been widely circulated that this exists.

Life for 12 year old girls is worse in Kabul, Khartoum and Mogadishu. Yes you were SHed. That's disgusting and horrible and vile. Girls in Sudan face rape by armed paramilitary groups. It's not comparable.

Of course it's not, but in all cases the problem is men. Men from all races will do whatever they think they can get away with.

British men arn't raping less because they have morals, they're slightly more constrained by the possibility of consequences, the vomit enduranceing "sex tourism" trade proves that. Highlighting those consequences to all men makes sense (though actually enforcing them would be better)

Do you think the pamphlet will solve any issues with those crimes?

Does the leaflet also say anything about not lurking around schools?

If we accept this to be true, you agree that British men are "raping less". Therefore allowing the continued invasion of our country by men who are not British makes us more likely to be raped.

The per capita threads seem to want to focus on the 22 Afghan immigrants convicted of sexual assaults last year rather than the 100,000 white British men reported by police each year.

Edited

Reported and convicted are two very different things.

I don't agree. I think they're raping less because it's a different culture.

Rape has practically been decriminalised in the UK so it's doubtful that a fear of consquences is stopping anyone.

Yes, because the conviction rate is abysmally law. Only 2.6% of rapes result in conviction.

Disagree with a complete stop on all immigration. However, when I look around my town and the damage that has been done over the past 5 years or so, its clear that we need to reduce immigration dramatically and that an awful lot of recent arrivals need to go home. The deliberate enshittification of our country has to be stopped and reversed, after that the bar for people wishing to move here needs to be set much higher. None of this should be even remotely controversial.

I'd quite like to see a map where it shows the proportion of immigrants for different parts of the country.

I live in a small town (18k population) in the SE. It is overwhelmingly white British, as are the two nearest towns. There is no "enshittification" here, although the streets aren't swept as often as they used to be. There are definitely refugees who have moved or been relocated here, as I know some of them socially and others were my clients when I was working. The nearest asylum seeker accommodation is approx 20 miles away.

It's a shame, because the town has an active organisation that supports refugees and asylum seekers and an active "Stand Up To Racism" group, so there would be a ready-made support network for them here.

It's clear that there are many towns/areas where the picture is very different and I wonder if part of the problem is the unequal distribution.

Would your support network be happy to welcome say 1000 men in one of Labour’s barracks?

Would you welcome 1200 males? That's what is happening in other areas. Burnham seems to want areas like yours to take more.

Mumterz · 19/08/2026 21:16

I say this all the time. There are bad men in the west. That's horrific. No need to import men from nations that are even worse.

Not only are we allowing them in, we are paying for their upkeep, and legal bills. Yet they travelled through plenty of safe countries. Why can’t those countries protect their borders? Hungary manages it.

OtterlyAstounding · 20/08/2026 12:55

I'd still like to know why people think certain countries have such terrible human rights for women, and such exceedingly high rates of sexual and domestic violence, if the men themselves are (apparently) no more likely to offend against women and girls than British born men are?

It's such a failure of British women and girls – not only do they have to combat British men's sexual violence, but now they have to contend with men from cultures who see women as little better than cattle. How does that benefit Britain? (And I ask this as a non-Brit, with no skin in the game).

I did!

You wrote that modern slavery in the UAE is not only fine, but the model the UK should emulate, as long as western people can have a good life there and not everyone is abused. You're doubling down on that - is that right?

Says it all. Wow. Clearly they have a very different outlook on the consequences to us, no matter how many times people shout “white men rape too”.

To think the women they treat like dirt, respect them. What was that about turkeys voting for Christmas.

Why oh why are the Government refusing to publish ethnicity of offenders - there are none so blind as those who will not see! Roll on 2029.

EasternStandard · 20/08/2026 12:43

Would your support network be happy to welcome say 1000 men in one of Labour’s barracks?

In principle, yes, but I think that might stretch the resources of our local group somewhat. It's more than 5% of the entire population of the town, and I think the local group has a membership of around 30. I think 250 would be fine though, which would probably more than fill the larger hotel in town.

There isn't a barracks or anything similar within 20-odd miles. There was an army training centre a few miles away, but it closed in the early 90s and it's a small retail park now. And it would be bloody difficult to build anything here, we're in a national park and almost the entire town is a conservation area. They can't even extend the local comp, so a lot of kids get bussed to schools 3 or 8 miles away.

A lot of the members provide accommodation in their homes for those who've just got refugee status, and help them with resettlement. That was how I first got to know them, I used to work in homelessness prevention and resettlement.

? They do publish the ethnicities.

Greenseacat · 20/08/2026 13:25

We have such a low rate of conviction for rape that I think all men and boys in this country need leaflets, training and whatever else to learn how to respect women and girls in general...

But yes there is no doubt in my mind that some cultures and religions see women and girls as the property of men and second class citizens.

No surprise then that these men will treat women like dirt wherever they live.

SomethingHasGotToBeDoneAboutYourKids · 20/08/2026 13:49

SummerFeverVenice · 20/08/2026 13:24

? They do publish the ethnicities.

It’s the nationalities that they are refusing to publish. The ICO ordered the MOJ to publish the data and they have still refused to do so and are appealing it in court. One has to wonder why….

The disparities based on ethnicity (per the data earlier in the thread) will likely be lower because many of various ethnicities are British nationals who were born here so more likely to have similar cultural values. Once you split the data by nationality (or country of birth) the differences in offending are likely to be far greater.
