AIBU to think if we need to politely ask men not to rape women (or men), then we don't want such people in the UK?

Don't rape, sexually assault or make kissing noises' at people, asylum seekers warned in guidance about living in UK
UK arrivals have been told to treat women equally, not sexually assault partners or have sex with children in a new Home Office pamphlet. As well as the guidebook, a series of posters have also been designed by the government.

How are Polish and Romanians so high on the list then?

And why is rape much lower in Poland where everyone feels safe

This guidance has been in place for a long time.

Also, similar guidance is rolled out in most workplaces about once a year in the form of anti-sexual harassment training.

It's not really headline news tbh, and as usual the right wing media is spinning the hell out of it.

That’s a fair point re workplace sexual harassment training.

Few people from the EU or the countries you mention want to come to the UK. Why would they? Their own countries are doing better. Poland is one of the top ten destinations for UK immigrants.

those countries are mostly doing better than the UK and if anything the flow is now the other way round.

the US is much richer than the U.K. and the opportunities are better. Same for Canada.

there was EU migration in the first twenty years of this century but Brexit and the increasing prosperity of their home countries means many have gone home.

and as for Switzerland you have got to be joking. I have friends that live there and nobody in their right mind would leave Switzerland to live in Britain. Ok, Switzerland might be expensive but it’s bloody idyllic otherwise.

immigration largely comes from countries poorer than your country. We had loads of Indian and Pakistani and Caribbean immigrants in the 50s and 60s and the more recent waves have been the poles and the Romanians etc from the EU expansion.

The west has been intervening in Afghanistan for a lot longer than that.

Dr Watson who is in the Sherlock Holmes stories was wounded in an Afghan war and that was in Victorian times.

The first British Invasion of Afghanistan was in 1839
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Anglo-Afghan_War

Some practices are ancient. The Taliban recently re-introduced stoning. They didn’t get that from the west.

@Octavia64 "as a country, we can just stop immigration. But there would be a massive, massive impact on our universities, our hospitals, our life generally."

I might have missed it, but I don't think anyone on this thread has argued for completely stopping immigration.

Disagree with a complete stop on all immigration. However, when I look around my town and the damage that has been done over the past 5 years or so, its clear that we need to reduce immigration dramatically and that an awful lot of recent arrivals need to go home. The deliberate enshittification of our country has to be stopped and reversed, after that the bar for people wishing to move here needs to be set much higher. None of this should be even remotely controversial.

Not sure about Poland.
Unfortunately in Romanian women and girls especially Roma are often sexually assaulted and trafficked to America, the Middle East, the pervs, the predators brought there through orphanage volunteers, aka child predators so unfortunately Romanian has a long history of sexually abuse. Even in Ireland many Roma girls are forced into prostitution, they’re moved around the country to make sure they don’t make alliances with anyone who could help.
1000’s if Romanian orphans and women were sold world wide. It impacts the culture.
That’s why Andrew Tate lived there for so long.

Was just thinking this. As women we are lucky to live in a society where rape, beatings, killings, no education & no employment are a not commonly a part of our lives.

You wouldn’t think it from some posts.

Some basic data from the MoJ

'Data from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), obtained by the the Centre for Migration Control think tank under freedom of information laws, has revealed that 26% of 1,453 sex assault convictions on women last year were foreign nationals.
Indian nationals accounted for the highest number in foreign national convictions in 2024, with 38.
Romanians nationals were second with 27 assault, joint with Polish nationals also on 27.
Pakistani nationals accounted for 20 sexual assault conviction while 19 Afghan nationals were convicted.

While accounting for 26% of sexual assault convictions last year, foreign nationals make up 10.9% of the population.
More than a fifth of all rape convictions last year were also foreign nationals.
They made up 155 of the 720 convictions for “rape of a female aged 16 or over”, with a further 42 convictions being an “unknown” nationality.'

There are examples in the news every day. And yes before you say but british men rape too, yes we know. We don't need more.

I have read the number of foreigners meant they nationals is higher than that but that by the side I am very shocked that the top three are Indians, Poles and Romanians as that is not how the press presents it?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/08/2026 23:00

Well, one reason could be that there are more Indian, Romanian and Polish migrants.

I don’t have a link (before someone asks me), but I have read of several cases of Afghani interpreters appearing in court on various charges, and themselves requiring interpreters. Make it make sense.

We are soooo scammed, we have no idea.

75% of SA have been done by British men according to your own figures, where is the outrage?

Or anywhere in Pakistan. I read of two horrendous incidents of two separate foreign women visiting. One ladies car broke down. Not a chance I’d visit any of them countries, unfortunately they’re visiting me. Remembering the group in India too that went out to see the full moon, the guides were attacked, the women destroyed.

They do.

This country isn't a single sex space however.

It remains bigoted to ban an entire country / culture / race on the false premise that they're all dangerous sexual deviants.

We ban overseas student visa applications from whole countries because of elevated visa offence rates.

Why would that logic be OK for visa offences but not sexual offences?

Or put in practical terms, isn’t it OK to look at this chart and draw a line somewhere?

Ive cropped out country names. I don’t think it’s bigotry to say there is a point after which the burden of extra rapes and sexual assaults is too great to accept.

It’s beyond belief how some people respond to threads like these. Why can’t people be concerned that men are coming over to the UK in the masses, from cultures where they view women as nothing, and there’s many many many examples of them committing crimes, murders and rapes? We all know Brits also commit these crimes, but that doesn’t make it any better!!! If a Brit has a history of rape, it’s likely he’s in the system. If they commit any new crimes their history will be taken into account when sentencing. You could also do a Clare’s law if you have concerns. Whereas a mass amount of men coming over here, who have no proof of who they are, no record of what they have done previously means you have no idea who you are dealing with. There have also been many examples of “pack” mentality where a group of asylum seekers have targeted vulnerable/ alone / drunk females. What chance does a lone female have against a group of men? How do people defend these never ending crimes from migrants with “well white men do it too?” I’m concerned about BOTH!!! Why can’t the “left” accept that we have an issue on both sides but that people are likely more focused in general about migrants because we can’t deport people who are from here can we? But we can stop more of it coming in. It’s also concerning to many seeing the groups of men and the pack mentality. It’s worrying because of the culture they come from, which will be so heavily imprinted on them that it’s very hard to change. It’s worrying we have no idea what previous crimes they have committed and that many of them come over with untreated mental health issues. It’s worrying because the amount of foreigners in our prisons is not in proportion to the overall population!!

Eastern Europe is far more conservative and Poland is staunchly Catholic. I am quite sure the crimes don’t get reported - it will be like it was here 40-50 years ago.

I recently had a run-in with Czech police - three of them banging on my hotel room door at 3 am in the course of an investigation that was nothing to do with me. There was no understanding at all that as a lone female I was reluctant to open the door to three men in the middle of the night. I am quite sure English police would not have behaved like that and would have approached hotel management or brought a WPC.

We tried banning the Poles and Romanians with Brexit, but it didn't take and tanked the economy.
We can have another go in 3 years.

Are women not outraged? Look at the feminism board, or the threads on here when there are rapes or child sex abuse cases that get lenient sentencing, etc. As far as I can see, women are plenty outraged over what British men do to women, and think much more needs to be done to combat 'homegrown' misogyny and sex offences.

They also don't want more men, from even more misogynistic and sexually violent cultures, to be entering British society at a relatively high rate.

MNers feel very safe in Poland. I've seen threads on it. Budapest as well. In general as well crime is so much lower. So much less theft and violence and robberies. Compared to London where if you own something of value, it'll get stolen.
