Tigerbread and the midnight feast....

Tigerthebreadroll · 17/08/2026 23:23

Omg I have a new bad habit. I've discovered humps of tigerbread... lashings of thick butter and chunks of cheese...
4 nights in a row now. I haven't lived!
The 2 dogs follow me silently.... they are complicit in my selfish act and they get a tiny piece of cheese each 😆. Then we quietly slip back upstairs and go to bed ! Wtaf is this new craving ?! I've had dinner ...so its not really hunger. But once I start I can't stop ... my poor teenage son gets the blame when the provisions run low 😆. Am I alone in this blissful but at the same time ridiculously indulgent ritual? Is it menopause ? I am sure I've put on a kilo each night ! I cannot be the only one.... let us unite in our midnight rituals !!

Not going to lie, I had white bread hiccups not an hour ago 😋

DustyMaiden · 17/08/2026 23:26

I don’t do that. Don’t allow it in my house unless it’s Christmas.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 17/08/2026 23:40

Aaah, this reminds me of a midsummer early morning many years ago when I was young, free and single...

I got off the night bus after a night out. It was just getting light. I lived opposite a bakers and the door was open. They were happy to sell me a freshly baked still warm, nay, hot white crusty bloomer loaf at 4am. I just kept cutting slices and slathering it with butter and sometimes jam until at least half of it was gone. Heaven (and no hangover).

Boreded · 17/08/2026 23:44

I HATE the expression ‘lashings of butter’, I feel like I’m in a Famous Five or Secret Seven book.

However you have made me fancy tiger bread and cheese 🤣

Openmouthinsertfood · 17/08/2026 23:46

Well you see, you have to eat tiger bread quickly anyway as it goes off so fast. That's what I'd say if caught. 😁

WonderingAndOverthinking · 17/08/2026 23:47

Tiger bread toasted, tonnes of butter and either Marmite or loads of sour cherry jam. Plus a cuppa tea. Nothing better between the hours of 11pm and 6am 👌

Boreded · 17/08/2026 23:52

I also think that the inner sensible voice in me (that’s currently trying to help me lose a significant amount of weight) wants to point out the perils of late night fats and carbs though. Even if it does sound like heaven.

Houndinghounds · 17/08/2026 23:56

Toasted tiger bread with butter and strawberry jam is my late night sin.

Cheeringmeup · 18/08/2026 00:00

Ok, you got me - fresh tiger bread downstairs - I'm going now...
Cheese AND jam 😊

Tigerthebreadroll · 18/08/2026 00:02

Yes!!! Can I go for a 2nd helping and add the jam ...??? Hmmm

YABU

I don't have any tigerbread. Sad

MargaretMeldrew · 18/08/2026 00:40

I like Tiger bread but it does not like me.

Bikergran · 18/08/2026 09:33

I came home late one night years ago after an emotional roller-coaster of an evening (weirdly enough now I have no recollection at all what the situation was, but I know I arrived home after midnight sobbing my heart out) and sat down and ate, slice by slice, over half of a LARGE fruit cake, complete with marzipan and icing.

I don’t do that. Don’t allow it in my house unless it’s Christmas.

You don't allow what - tiger bread or midnight feasting?! If the former, well, every day is Christmas in my house!

Strangely, that's the very reason I love the expression. Who didn't want to be in the Famous Five, with ginger beer, hot cocoa, fresh crusty bread and lashings of butter?!

BourbonStreet · 18/08/2026 09:38

Tiger bread is divine. If I weren't trying to lose weight, I'd eat it daily with or without condiments. I love even smelling it - enjoy it for me, OP!

randomchap · 18/08/2026 09:38

Yabu for allowing your teenage son to take the blame

Me neither...acid reflux for hours Sad

Whaleandsnail6 · 18/08/2026 09:39

Yanbu to eat the lovely bread, butter and cheese but you can't let your poor son be accused....admit to it and don't be ashamed!

There is certain foods I loose all self control with. I can't have Nutella or Biscoff spread in the house as I have been known to sit with the jar and a teaspoon 😳 I just don't buy them now.

Lexy2345 · 18/08/2026 09:39

Tigerbread is good of the gods, but it goes stale so fast. Therefore it makes sense to eat it rapidly, in large chunks.

ChinUpChestOut · 18/08/2026 09:39

I would just like to say that a nutella sandwich with tiger bread is quite possibly the Best Thing Ever. It deserves its own food group it's so good. It makes you feel better when sad, it increases your happiness when you're already happy, there is nothing it cannot do. Worth the hiccups which only occur because you're gobbling the sandwich down and not eating it at a refined and civilised pace.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 18/08/2026 09:41

Must be something in the phase of the moon. I did the same with a lovely fresh loaf over the weekend. Probably had half a pack of butter with it 🤣

InterestedDad37 · 18/08/2026 09:42

... and it looks nothing like a tiger's coat anyway! A better name would be Leopard Bread. I refuse to be complicit in allowing this misnomer to persist (and so will happily eat it in the wee hours, with marmite and cheese)

poachy · 18/08/2026 09:42

I’m sure tiger bread has msg, or crack, in it, something addictive anyway. I try not to buy it for this reason but I’m glad you are happy!!

TryAgaiJ · 18/08/2026 09:44

Sadly I developed gluten intolerance with menopause and so so miss marmite toast with butter - enjoy it for me.

I have since lost 2.5 stone so some benefits too to resisting the call of the tiger loaf.
