Am I being overdramatic about the new breaking news I’ve just seen about Russia threatening UK after use of drones. I’m super scared and have anxiety, can someone somewhat reassure me? Has these headlines happened before??

If they attack, we have a million NEETS to put in the field.

Why should they be sent to a war which this country shouldn’t have been involved in from the start? I’m sick and tired of people readily offering others up as cannon fodder. If these rich old men all want to fight each other let them do it amongst themselves. I can guarantee there’ll be no MP’s kids on the frontline if we ever were at war again so why should everyone else’s kids go.

DebbieSavage · 18/08/2026 11:26

If its any consolation, think of all the horrible things the people of this Island have done to civilisations all over the world in the past and consider it an honour that we might be the generations that can in some way atone for all that death and destruction with our own.

Russia has been attacking the UK for decades. Cyber attacks, nerve agents, misinformation etc.

They attacked an innocent sovereign state, it's morally correct to help them repel the invaders, and stop the war.

In doing so, we're also helping degrade and damage the Russian capacity to wage war. This is a good thing for Europe in general.

To be honest, it sounds like you've swallowed Russian propaganda and are just parroting their viewpoints

Whilst Ukraine are fighting the physical warfront, this is occupying a lot of Russian resources that would otherwise freely be available to attack our digital infrastructure - which they are still managing to do.

I, for one, am glad we don't have to consult the public if the public hold such uninformed opinions.

So am I. If people with views like that have a vote I think the less they have the opportunity to exercise it in a referendum the better.

Obviously, the NEETS go first, as they aren't contributing anything to society. Plus any volunteers.

nam3c4ang3 · 18/08/2026 11:48

What - another threat?! You surely must know how long they've been threatening to nuke us for?!

JoeSikoraTommysStory · 18/08/2026 11:54

moonraker0 · 18/08/2026 08:31

Exactly. What do people expect Russia to do when they know it’s being attacked with British weapons. We interfere in every war and get fed the propaganda it’s for the greater good.

Hypocrisy at its finest, Russia has been using Iran & Chinese ammunition and North Korean soldiers but expects no one should help Ukraine? GTF Putin constantly threatens the UK notice he doesn’t hold as much venom for France, Spain, Germany who also supply the Ukraine.

dustabsorber · 18/08/2026 12:01

And the NEETS will have to remove all their piercings and have a short back and sides and learn to stand up straight; listen and only speak
when spoken to.

Ukraine do deserve help - they are a sovereign European state that has been subjected to a vicious and unprovoked attacked by their neighbour.

Our support is also practical and self interested - there are a lot of independent European countries that border Russia - if we roll over on Ukraine who would be next - Poland? Finland? Norway?

Edited

Nobody. Seeing as he can’t even make any gains in Ukraine!

Vile.

Dymaxion · 18/08/2026 12:23

Much easier to train the Neets as drone operators, they can do it from the comfort of their bedroom ? Might need to upgrade their wi-fi ?

I would prefer that nobody goes, but if anyone has to go, then obviously it should be the NEETS

This is because we got involved with bloody Ukraine, I don't remember any referendum on this asking for public authorisation. Millions have been spent on supporting them and they are not grateful enough. We have done enough for them and should leave them to it. You look after your own people first.

Are you Russian and pro-Putin?
The invasion of Ukraine is everyone’s business.
As a starting point:
Do you remember how high prices have gone for energy and cereals and oil once the war started? Do you know why that happened? It has been affecting everyone and very directly. Unless you are a multi billionaire and haven’t noticed yourself.
And the obvious: Ukraine is an independent country. How would you feel if, say Norway, decided to take over the UK?

Everyone should contribute to the society that protects them if they are able - why shouldn’t the perfectly healthy young people who aren’t earning or being educated have to contribute?

There doesn’t have to be a referendum. We elect governments to make the decisions for us. That’s the point of a government.

Nobody's going anywhere. It's drone warfare nowadays.

Get with the times.

Arming Ukraine to help them fight off an invading country is the right thing to do.

Defence, as in ground based air defence, yes.

Bombing Russia directly - no. Asking for trouble.

mumumental · 18/08/2026 13:10

Every country threatens every other these days, it seems!

Chickensilkie · 18/08/2026 13:11

Well I think it's worrying and I don't understsnd why we have done this when ....we have recently told the whole world we have a pitiful defence and no money for defense and shit ships etc ?

Couldn't a country with more robust defences have supplied these drones ??

I don't think Russia will send a nuke but the did poison people on UK soil!!

Chickensilkie · 18/08/2026 13:11

And why do they need to know whose weapons they are using ??

Maybe, those early release prisoners as well

SadiraOfTyr · 18/08/2026 13:14

It's hardly as if it's the first time is it? Every time the UK expresses support for Ukraine, the toothless old bear says there will be 'consequences'. In reality it means they expel a couple of diplomats or something.

Russia is going to carry on testing NATO and we will carry on responding - business as usual since 1947 (with a brief interlude in the 90s).

ticktickticktickBOOM · 18/08/2026 13:15

Why do people keep citing the double agent spy poisoning as an attack on the UK? It was a very defined and specific espionage operation.

If you're going to be a double agent being murdered is par for the course.

Espionage has been happening all over the world for thousands of years. It is not a new threat.
