Hi everyone

Im not sure if im overreacting because im heavily pregnant or if this would annoy anyone

New neighbours moved in about 3 or 4 weeks ago and ever since then its just been completely different here. Before that it was actually a really quiet street, everyone mostly kept themselves to themselves and you hardly heard anything

The thing is I dont actually know who lives there because there always seems to be different people coming and going. Ive seen 2 men there the most but theres loads of other people in and out all the time so I genuinely dont know who actually lives there

Ive never spoken to them so this isnt because weve fallen out or anything

Last Saturday they had people round and I got woken up about 5.30 in the morning by someone outside shouting "call the police" over and over. I rang because I didnt know what was going on and the police came but they werent there for that long before they left

Since then its just been constant noise. Doors slamming, people outside talking late at night, cars pulling up, people laughing really loudly. It feels like theres always something going on

Im due in about 4 weeks now and its making me worry about bringing a newborn home. Im not expecting complete silence because obviously people are allowed to live their lives but this just feels really different to how its always been

I dont want to be that neighbour who complains over nothing and maybe im just being over sencitive because im pregnant, but its making me feel quite stressed

AIBU to already be worried about this or would you be aswell?

Just so many rube and incoherent ppl, they seem to think that ppl that don’t make loud noises are boring and they are so much fun . Sorry to say complaining normally results to nothing .

LoafofSellotape · 16/08/2026 14:57

I wouldn't be complaining,they don't sound like reasonable people.

LoafofSellotape · 16/08/2026 14:58

Are they next door to you?

Catza · 16/08/2026 15:06

I totally get what it feels like living next to noisy neighbours. My sympathies. However, I am not sure why you would feel unsafe to bring your newborn home. I'd say that this part is overreacting.
The rest... my only hope is that they will be less noisy as they settle in (maybe men coming and going are traders giving quotes for renovation works, other people coming and going are friends coming to look at their new house etc.) I moved three months ago and we've been doing some noisy work in the house and had plumbers, electirican and various tradespeople coming and going. Although I did pop next door to warn them that we will be decorating throughout summer and to apologise for the noise.

Neighbours who require the police to be called within their first week of living there? I have never lived beside anyone who required this so the Op is clearly not overreacting.

Itsthewoluff · 16/08/2026 15:08

I’d keep my head down and keep out of their lives. I wouldn’t want to inflame the situation, no matter how much I disliked it.

LoafofSellotape · 16/08/2026 14:58

Yeah theyre next door unfortunately

I keep hoping it was just because theyve only recently moved in and everythings a bit hectic but it doesnt seem to be settling down

I havent complained because I genuinely dont want to start problems with people I have to live next to, especially when im about to have a baby

Its more the amount of different people coming and going thats making me uneasy than anything else. It never seems to be the same people there apart from the 2 men I keep seeing

Maybe it will calm down, I really hope it does because before they moved in it was honestly such a quiet street

This. Hopefully it’s just lots of housewarming celebrations and excitement and will calm down.

AtlasCedar · 16/08/2026 15:11

Also get Ring doorbells

BIWI · 16/08/2026 15:13

Have you asked the neighbours on the other side of them what they think?

Onetimeusername1 · 16/08/2026 15:14

I really wish that anybody making a noise nuisance outside of 7am and 11pm would be removed to a special place with all the other selfish idiots. We need to have consequences for actions, nothing is done and 90% of the country have to live in misery on edge because of the selfish 10%.

TreadlngWater · 16/08/2026 15:20

I have actually been thinking about getting a Ring doorbell anyway, especially with the baby due soon so maybe this has just given me the push to do it

I havent asked the neighbours on the other side yet. We all say hello if we see each other but thats about it, nobody really stands chatting round here

I have wondered if its bothering them aswell though because theyre even closer to the house than I am

Im trying not to jump to conclusions because theyve only been here a few weeks but it does feel like its been one thing after another since they moved in

LoafofSellotape · 16/08/2026 15:22

What is it specifically that makes you nervous about them having lots of visitors? A Ring bell is a good idea.

YouSawBrigadoon · 16/08/2026 15:24

Sounds horrendous

I think its more because I dont actually know who lives there if that makes sense

If it was just family or friends coming round every now and then I honestly wouldnt think twice about it, its more that there seems to be different people there all the time and I cant work out who actually lives in the house

The shouting last weekend probably hasnt helped either because before that I wasnt really bothered, but waking up to someone shouting call the police at 5.30 in the morning has made me a bit more on edge

Its probably the timing aswell with me being due soon. I think if I wasnt about to have a newborn id probably just ignore it a lot more than I am now

I have. I've lived across the road from drug dealers and next door to some poorly people who required police intervention. Did I love it? No. But they never attempted to enter my house so I can't say I felt anything other than annoyance at the constant noise.
My elderly neighbour had someone break into her house while she stepped out into her garden to take laundry in. We had to call the police and wait with her as she was running up and down the street shouting for help. That was after 11pm. Things happen to people and you don't know why the police is called half the time. Yes, it could be DV, or drunk dispute. It could also be because someone is in trouble due to no fault of their own.

Apart from when you called the police are they overly noisy? If they aren't I'd just try and concentrate on the new baby and try and ignore them . There isn't a lot you can do about it and lots of visitors is preferable to noisy music imo.

I hate my ring doorbell! It keeps going offline, it seems to have two modes, either it captures nothing or records every time a mouse sneezes in the vicinity! I am going to change it for a Eufy one I think!

Glittertwins · 16/08/2026 15:38

That sounds more like your wifi connection though, not Ring. Ours did it, it was the beginning of the end of our router. New router, no issue.

The police issue, though. Also the screaming in the early hours.

Op, I get it. I don't know if you're next door to them (doesn't sound like it) but I've had a very noisy neighbour since we all moved into our new build estate (all at the same time) 5 years ago. She's consistently been noisy on a daily basis. She doesn't work and rarely leaves the house. If it's not her yappy dog it's her techno music absolutely blasting. She has every door and window open. No neighbour on her other side so it's just us who suffer. I don't even play music at home because I don't want to annoy anyone.

She was so bad last night that we actually had to go and stay with family an hour away. I was screaming at her from my garden to stop, and she just laughed. She's mid 50s and craves attention desperately. I think she just enjoys the attention which comes from pissing everyone off around her. Reporting is an option but we're going to sell because of her and don't want to declare it. She did have neighbours on the other side but they're trying to sell and have moved out. (suspect they can't shift the house because of her, as absolutely everyone else in the development who is selling have sold within a few months).

Op, I got a Ring bell, and I'd rather have it than not, but it has also made me a nervous wreck. I'm constantly checking it. I am a naturally anxious person though.

As others have said, hopefully it will settle soon and it's just new neighbour visitor noise. The people down the road have just had a conservatory built and they've got loads of friends in and out all day.

KookyFish · 16/08/2026 15:40

I had this in my street. I lived in the street since birth, moved a few doors down age 21, all houses in the street were privately owned and everyone has lived there a long time.

A couple of years ago a woman and her son (plus lots of other randomers) moved in by renting and she's horrendous, constant smell of weed, loads of parties in her front garden, always police, shouting etc.

She's the main reason I am moving and other people in the street have moved away, fucking shitty people want putting down.

DisforDarkChocolate · 16/08/2026 15:50

Are you sure it's not a brothel?

FalteringFledgling · 16/08/2026 15:56

Op is it social housing or renting ?
Unfortunatly it won't get better.

Flumposie3 · 16/08/2026 15:59

We had this when a drug dealer moved in with a single mum over the road. Hardly slept for 10 months. It made myself and other neighbours ill.People turning up at all hours from 10pm til 3am. Police were useless. He finally left when he became violent with her, I witnessed this, knew she had young kids in the house and I reported it. Police finally got him for that, not the drugs. I bought a ring camera for piece of mind. I hope things improve for you.

Bobcurlygirl · 16/08/2026 16:00

Is it a rental or was it sold? Speak to letting agent or landlord. Keep a diary.
