Hi everyone

Im not sure if im overreacting because im heavily pregnant or if this would annoy anyone

New neighbours moved in about 3 or 4 weeks ago and ever since then its just been completely different here. Before that it was actually a really quiet street, everyone mostly kept themselves to themselves and you hardly heard anything

The thing is I dont actually know who lives there because there always seems to be different people coming and going. Ive seen 2 men there the most but theres loads of other people in and out all the time so I genuinely dont know who actually lives there

Ive never spoken to them so this isnt because weve fallen out or anything

Last Saturday they had people round and I got woken up about 5.30 in the morning by someone outside shouting "call the police" over and over. I rang because I didnt know what was going on and the police came but they werent there for that long before they left

Since then its just been constant noise. Doors slamming, people outside talking late at night, cars pulling up, people laughing really loudly. It feels like theres always something going on

Im due in about 4 weeks now and its making me worry about bringing a newborn home. Im not expecting complete silence because obviously people are allowed to live their lives but this just feels really different to how its always been

I dont want to be that neighbour who complains over nothing and maybe im just being over sencitive because im pregnant, but its making me feel quite stressed

AIBU to already be worried about this or would you be aswell?

I think you may be living next door to a brothel.

When we had a drug dealer living next door, it was a lot like what you are describing - people coming and going at all hours, but mostly after dark, people shouting up from outside the building to be let in (drug dealer had a first floor room). It will attract other problems too. Though of course there could be other explanations.

If you are living in a housing association property, Find out who in your housing association is responsible for dealing with anti-social behaviour and contact them with your concerns. Stick to the facts rather than speculation when reporting the problems. Maybe keep a log of times you are disturbed, when you have had to call the police, times the emergency services turn up etc. If the other house is also owned by the same housing association, the housing association ASB officer should be able to address them, referring to the terms of their tenancy. They will probably still be on their trial period so the sooner the issues are addressed the better. They will probably have access to information about the background of the new tenants (though they won't be able to share that with you obviously).

This seems very sensible, and agree with getting the HA HO involved sooner rather than later. The noise is annoying, all the different people and the police is more than annoying. It’s clearly not going to get better.

I really wish that anybody making a noise nuisance outside of 7am and 11pm would be removed to a special place with all the other selfish idiots. We need to have consequences for actions, nothing is done and 90% of the country have to live in misery on edge because of the selfish 10%.

Along with all the people who play music on speakers in their gardens 😂

I think its more because I dont actually know who lives there if that makes sense

If it was just family or friends coming round every now and then I honestly wouldnt think twice about it, its more that there seems to be different people there all the time and I cant work out who actually lives in the house

The shouting last weekend probably hasnt helped either because before that I wasnt really bothered, but waking up to someone shouting call the police at 5.30 in the morning has made me a bit more on edge

Its probably the timing aswell with me being due soon. I think if I wasnt about to have a newborn id probably just ignore it a lot more than I am now

Is it an HMO?

Anonyanonay · 18/08/2026 00:45

Sounds like they're dealing and partying with the people who come to buy their drugs. I'd put in an anonymous tip off to the police.

I would see how it goes as this is clearly some undesirables disturbing the peace. You can do so anon on the council website or police website. As they could be engaging in criminal activity.
Have had same in our neighbourhood and they soon went away.

Witchergeralt · 18/08/2026 09:11

Bear in mind babies make a lot of noise, they cry in the night, they scream at very unfortunate times, they like music at 1am, 2am, 3am .... Hope the nursery is on the party wall ....

JobstacleCourse · 18/08/2026 09:36

Could it be that it’s exacerbated by the heat? In terms of windows constantly open etc?

We live on what was a super quiet cul-de-sac, mostly retired and elderly in detached homes. I always said it was a shame there weren’t more young families! We moved in with 2 small children and made a lot of effort to respect the peace and quiet. Both my immediate neighbours passed away about a year ago and 2 young families moved in. It wasn’t too bad until all the windows were open! For the past 2 months it has been constant screaming and crying, shouting, arguing, dogs yapping. There’s also a teen who screams and swears at her parents.

i think because they are new and everyone else is so quiet, they don’t realise how much the sound carries and that we can hear everything - like every word of an argument etc. Also we have probably got used to an unusually quiet neighbourhood for 15 yrs so it seems worse than it is. We both wfh so deal with it all every day.

Maybe it will all calm down as the weather cools?

Anendlessseriesofunfortunateevents · 18/08/2026 11:35

OP You sound very balanced and reasonable as you acknowledge being due soon will likely be making you more on edge. But others have noticed the noise increasing too and anyone would be uneasy about what you've described.

Contact your housing association. Put your concerns on record including the noise, dodgy visitors and 5:30am incident involving police call out. Ask do they do a tenancy check. Also ask what the procedure is for antisocial neighbours and neighbour hood noise nuisances etc.

I would also get some cameras up indoors and out. They will record noise levels and any dodgy incidents.

If you get chance to speak to their other immediate neighbour I'd do that. Perhaps just give them a knock and ask them if they've noticed the changes too.

CathyFitzs · 18/08/2026 14:10

Do you think they might be dealing?
That always means people coming and going at all hours. Do the visitors leave quickly?
are they adjoining you? Could your partner go round and say hello?

plasticplate · 18/08/2026 14:33

Could be some form of supported living although I would expect the comings and goings to be more regular and those that are working there shouldn't be noisy.

Maisymouse2 · 18/08/2026 14:46

Frendslikethese · 16/08/2026 16:40

Speak to your housing officer, they should be doing a tenancy check for new tenants and should be informed about the antics.

This.
Are they from a loud culture?
Whatever you do and thry are abit of considerstion is expected wherever we all live.
With baby you will be on broken sleep and less able to want ro listen to such nonsense thru the nights.

FullLondonEye · 18/08/2026 15:12

Have any of the other neighbours got concerns? Or have any of them got to know the new people? It might be worth speaking to some of your other neighbours - they may be able to help with some of your concerns.

Umbrellasinthesunshine · 18/08/2026 15:49

It’s hard to imagine if you’ve not lived it, but it really can destroy your enjoyment of your home and generates so much stress having awful neighbours.
I had a family move in two doors down from me years ago who basically prevented anyone from getting sleep. He was always wasted, shouting, she’d lock him out, he’d just stand outside bellowing at all hours.
Endless parade of wasted randoms coming and going, loud music, rubbish in the street. They had kids too which just made me horribly sad, as despite the fact that Police were called regularly by lots of frustrated residents, it never got any better.
Lots of people’s cars started getting vandalised (I believe this was him “getting revenge” on people calling the police - think kicking wing mirrors off, hammering nails into the sides of tyres, windows smashed). It was actually dreadful and I just moved out (luckily it was a rental).
I suppose you could get a ring camera but I really do sympathise.

TreadlngWater · 16/08/2026 15:09

Yeah theyre next door unfortunately

I keep hoping it was just because theyve only recently moved in and everythings a bit hectic but it doesnt seem to be settling down

I havent complained because I genuinely dont want to start problems with people I have to live next to, especially when im about to have a baby

Its more the amount of different people coming and going thats making me uneasy than anything else. It never seems to be the same people there apart from the 2 men I keep seeing

Maybe it will calm down, I really hope it does because before they moved in it was honestly such a quiet street

Could it be a house of multiple occupants?

TFImBackIn · 18/08/2026 16:34

Does their house belong to a HA as well, OP? If so I wonder whether more people have moved in that is allowed. If not is it rented by a private landlord? Is it a HMO?

I really feel for you and would be feeling exactly the same way.

Bluetray · 18/08/2026 16:49

Get the door bell in asap.
Yanbu to feel uneasy with all that sudden coming an going.
Best of luck.

5128gap · 18/08/2026 17:02

The only hope I can offer you, is if you have only seen men rather than a family, and they are this chaotic, they may well be short term, as people like this often dont stick around long. They tend to fall out, go their ways or annoy the landlord by damaging property, or dont pay rent and get evicted. We had similar in our street and one day they left as suddenly as they'd arrived.

Buttercup1954 · 18/08/2026 17:31

Sounds like drug dealers. Speaking from experience.

DooDallyHallie · 18/08/2026 17:50

Could it be a residential home, drug rebilitation centre?? just wondered with all the (staff?) coming and going calling the police etc.
In our sleepy village a childres home for 'troubled teens' sneakily opened for a while and caused all sorts of mayhem.y7

Turnedtochaos · 18/08/2026 17:53

We got new neighbours who ruined our street too. I hate them!

Theres not much you can do though sadly other than report them but if you own it can make it impossible to sell. I wish there was more to help people living like this.
