Hi everyone

Im not sure if im overreacting because im heavily pregnant or if this would annoy anyone

New neighbours moved in about 3 or 4 weeks ago and ever since then its just been completely different here. Before that it was actually a really quiet street, everyone mostly kept themselves to themselves and you hardly heard anything

The thing is I dont actually know who lives there because there always seems to be different people coming and going. Ive seen 2 men there the most but theres loads of other people in and out all the time so I genuinely dont know who actually lives there

Ive never spoken to them so this isnt because weve fallen out or anything

Last Saturday they had people round and I got woken up about 5.30 in the morning by someone outside shouting "call the police" over and over. I rang because I didnt know what was going on and the police came but they werent there for that long before they left

Since then its just been constant noise. Doors slamming, people outside talking late at night, cars pulling up, people laughing really loudly. It feels like theres always something going on

Im due in about 4 weeks now and its making me worry about bringing a newborn home. Im not expecting complete silence because obviously people are allowed to live their lives but this just feels really different to how its always been

I dont want to be that neighbour who complains over nothing and maybe im just being over sencitive because im pregnant, but its making me feel quite stressed

AIBU to already be worried about this or would you be aswell?

Lots of different people visiting? Do they stay long? Don’t want to worry you but could they be dealing drugs?

FalteringFledgling · 16/08/2026 17:31

Op why would it calm down ?
It's not like people are there to help them move in ? This circus is what they have brought with them

Def raise it with the housing people.

CarrieOakie · 16/08/2026 17:32

Thisismyfinesthour · 16/08/2026 17:08

Not sure I would want to do that if heavily pregnant tbh I wouldn't feel safe. It all sounds dodgy as duck.

I would think OP might live with another adult? the have you been round there doesn't need to be op but another friend or family member

RaininSummer · 16/08/2026 17:37

Has it been turned into an HMO? We have one near us which is known as the drunk house. Police are out fairly often and they play lous music with lots of yelling. Let's hope it was just a boisterous moving in bash.

Fairyflaps · 16/08/2026 17:38

When we had a drug dealer living next door, it was a lot like what you are describing - people coming and going at all hours, but mostly after dark, people shouting up from outside the building to be let in (drug dealer had a first floor room). It will attract other problems too. Though of course there could be other explanations.

If you are living in a housing association property, Find out who in your housing association is responsible for dealing with anti-social behaviour and contact them with your concerns. Stick to the facts rather than speculation when reporting the problems. Maybe keep a log of times you are disturbed, when you have had to call the police, times the emergency services turn up etc. If the other house is also owned by the same housing association, the housing association ASB officer should be able to address them, referring to the terms of their tenancy. They will probably still be on their trial period so the sooner the issues are addressed the better. They will probably have access to information about the background of the new tenants (though they won't be able to share that with you obviously).

I have actually been thinking about getting a Ring doorbell anyway, especially with the baby due soon so maybe this has just given me the push to do it

I havent asked the neighbours on the other side yet. We all say hello if we see each other but thats about it, nobody really stands chatting round here

I have wondered if its bothering them aswell though because theyre even closer to the house than I am

Im trying not to jump to conclusions because theyve only been here a few weeks but it does feel like its been one thing after another since they moved in

Could it be an Airbnb? If there are always different people coming and going? If so, you can get in touch with the owner!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/08/2026 18:01

Poor you OP. You're not overreacting at all.
If the Housing Association are to act, they'll need evidence. Start making a discrete record of the issues - noise, police, fights, etc. Get a ring or similar doorbell. Don't tell other neighbours at this stage, just start recording what's happened, dates and times.
Speak to the HA - anonymously initially if you're worried or have a look at their website and see what they say about anti social behaviour. There will be consequences and they may state what they require in order to take action.
Take a look and see what they needsin order to act against anti social tenants. As others have said, living next door to anti social neighbours can be awful but an HA can and will throw tenants out if they make the lives of others a nightmare.

Good luck - especially with your new baby Flowers

Lifeomars · 16/08/2026 18:11

I had horrible neighbours for over 3 years, the comings and goings, noise, fly tippping, stealing my bin, constant noise, fighting and drug dealing meant I had to call the police out a few times. Thankfully they seem to have gone elsewhere and the new people keep themselves to themselves. Doesn't help the OP but I understand the feeling of the street being changed. It only takes a few nasty anti social people to do it ,

LoafofSellotape · 16/08/2026 18:14

Keep a diary like others have said , start with the day you rang the police.

RealPeachRaven · 16/08/2026 18:27

I had new neighbours move in a few years ago, they were like this and I put it down at first to moving in celebrations etc. It didn't calm down! Felt like I was living next to an all night beer garden! I did lose my cool after being repeatedly woken up one night, but it didn't change much.

I was reluctant to complain at first as I wondered if I was overreacting, but eventually contacted their landlord and spoke to police - there was clear drug abuse/dealing, windows smashed, fighting in the garden - you get the picture! After about 2 long years they were evicted!

I have to say they actually seemed like nice people - I don't think they maliciously tried to annoy people, but unfortunately drugs and the people involved seemed to take a hold. It seemed to spiral out of control for them, and they ended up losing everything - kids, house etc. Sad to see really.

I hope it isn't like this for you OP, and that peace resumes. Ring doorbell sounds like a good idea, and talk with other neighbours about it - it could be good to see how others are feeling.

Ponoka7 · 16/08/2026 18:41

Your housing association would recommend you get a ring doorbell and keep a diary. If they are housing association or renting, the antisocial team will get involved. Keep phoning the police when you have reason to, it'll build your case.

FeetupTvon · 16/08/2026 18:46

Sounds like they are drug dealing.
All of what you have listed are red flags for this.

beAsensible1 · 16/08/2026 18:57

I mean it’s highly likely your home will be pretty noisy with a new baby for the next few months. So I’d see how it goes, plus summer means people are more active outdoors so there is more noise and when it’s winter it will quieten down.

BreatheAndFocus · 16/08/2026 18:57

Sounds like drug dealing to me too. Aswell as a Ring camera, keep notes. When we had the police round trying to get enough evidence to charge the druggies in the street, they were very interested in any visiting cars and brief descriptions of people in those cars. My guess is that they were also handling stolen goods and the police had suspects who they needed to confirm from witnesses who could provide colours/makes/reg plates of cars, etc.

Do report them to the HA or landlord. I wish they’d shove all the people like this into their own special town a long way from anyone else, so they can annoy each other!

DinoDoughnut81 · 16/08/2026 19:10

I live in social housing so I'm not a Hyacinth Bucket type and I would be worried too. Most people living regular-ish lives don't have different people coming and going constantly at all hours. Or the police called out within a week of moving in. I lived next to drug dealers and a cuckooing situation unfortunately so I'm familiar with what it looks and sounds like. Brothel could also be a possibility. I would get a Ring doorbell or equivalent as a minimum. And if it continues start keeping a diary with times of disturbances and any extra info, like names being shouted out. Or any drugs references. Really sorry it's happening to you at this time.

summersolsticesoon · 16/08/2026 19:27

Do the visitors stay long?
lots of callers who only stay for a few minutes can be an indication of drug dealing.

summersolsticesoon · 16/08/2026 19:30

if you have an electrical
socket near the door buy a Ring Pro
with a power adapter . Simple to install yourself and no messing about Charging batteries.

creativelady22 · 17/08/2026 18:12

Keep a log of everything and get a doorbell camera. Can you also speak to neighbours who might be experiencing the same? Is it bought or rented?

Monty36 · 17/08/2026 18:22

I feel really sorry for you. Truly. Dreadful neighbours are the cause of a lot of stress for people.

I've jumped straight to the conclusion that it's dodgy! Tradesmen don't turn up at 5.30am. And a 999 call with no subsequent explanation? All seems odd... 🤔

100% do it ! Worth their weight in gold. Ive has dodgy builders in and I was able to provide all the images and audio to reading standards . I've also watched someone try to break into our garage while on the phone to the police (so weird) and also my toddler manages to let himself out of our back gate (😣) and I quickly saw him on the camera and got him back in. I've had so many close shaves !

3rdtrimesterwoes · 17/08/2026 21:05

keeping an open mind, we had a very similar situation with drug dealers on the street, people turning up at all hours.

Then directly next door the house was rented, 2 men mainly there at night, then different people, after a while we barely saw them, they would only access the property at night, turns out it was a grow house, police raided it and pulled out about 50k worth of weed.

the most worrying thing about that was they had messed up the electrics in the house, It was a complete fire hazard. Police surveillance apparently said they fly drones over and in the snow it was the only house with out snow on the roof because it's so hot 😂

Threetyy · 17/08/2026 21:11

Obviously a brothel. Even drug dealers keep their heads down a bit more than that. You would still get the coming and going and door slamming but you wouldn’t get people standing in the street loitering. Unless the drug dealer is a moron that is. Weirder things have happened. If so they won’t last long.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 17/08/2026 21:13

Do you own your own home or is it a Private or Social Housing let. Did you know the tenants who lived there before?

These people sound like a real shower. They could be squatters or anybody. Maybe subletting. They sound as though they are setting their stall out.

Subletting is now out well out of control in all areas of housing and rife where l live . People occupying properties are rarely checked upon by Landlords as long as the rent is paid. Housing Associations do get rid of them but it can take a while.

Unfortunately this is what the country has come to after decades of Labour championing these irresponsible and feckless, out of control idiots. At the expense of decent people.

I am very sorry that you are putting up with this upset. If things haven't improved in a couple of weeks. Contact your Local Council.

You have my sympathy.
😻x

LovelyCrocus · 17/08/2026 22:09

The type of people who live in social housing tend to either be employed on a lowish wage or unemployed. This means they’re essentially exactly the same as people who live in privately rented housing.

I would not expect people in the privately rented sector to behave as inconsiderately as the OP describes, so there is no basis to presume that those in the socially rented sector should do this.

This is not normal behaviour. They are probably not normal people.
Whatever the neighbours are up to I think it would be unwise to confront them.

Keep a log of antisocial activities, unusual comings and goings and any time the police have paid a visit. Invest in a Ring doorbell or similar and download clips which show the problem.

You are wise to be worried and are not overreacting.
