Tuneful door knocking

AIBU to want to punch the visitors/ postman delivery drivers who do that ‘knock knock knock knock. Knock knock’ thing on my door?
it’s so irritating and makes me almost refuse to answer the door.
Do they it’s cutsey?
Do they think they’re edgy?
just fuck off and knock a couple of times like a normal human

I do a rhythmic knock. It's the 'shave and a haircut, ten bob' thing. It's a hard habit to break, and it sounds less demanding to me.

What??

GrillaMilla · 17/08/2026 11:52

I think it's lovely, happy!
The thing that annoys me is when people tap their keys on the glass pane in our front door, even though there's a door bell. Goes right through me and I think 'my bloody door! 😡

NooNakedJacuzziness · 17/08/2026 11:52

Reminds me of Roger Rabbit - “TWO BIIIIITS!!”

What??

That's just my take on it. A rhythmic knock seems friendlier to me. I can't really explain it any other way!

MsIceSandwich · 17/08/2026 11:54

It's better than shouting "I've got a parcel for you, you miserable fucker".

Da da da da-da....DA DA

Is it usually accompanied by tuneless whistling?

I think it's meant to convey a breezy 'don't mind me, just passing by, all good vibes!' kind of attitude, rather than a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK - I'm here and I mean business, let me in now.'

This. I feel really guilty just doing Knock, knock or ever Knock, knock, knock. They sound really demanding.

I do the 5,2 knock pattern, hoping it sounds happy/breezy . . .

Now I'll feel guilty doing that too!!

I have a ring doorbell, sometimes I get people who see it flash up and think they don't even need to press the doorbell. I get the notification because they're standing there lol. I sometimes still get a knock, not particularly tuneful.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 17/08/2026 12:14

I do get the rage at delivery folk who ring the doorbell AND knock really loudly in an irritating rhythm, particularly when they can see me through the frosted glass coming to answer the door.

Better than the Evri delivery chap, though. He doesn't knock at all, just bursts in through the back gate, unannounced. My old dog would have bitten his bloody head off. (Current one isn't much of a guard dog).

UrbanFan · 17/08/2026 12:17

Do other cheerful actions irritate or wind you up?

Dollymylove · 17/08/2026 12:24

Some people dont arf find some weird stuff to get annoyed about.
Must have a very uneventful life 🤣

Friendlygingercat · 17/08/2026 15:11

I have a (ring type) door bell and people still knock. Perhaps they think it will not film them if they don't ring. Sorry matey its motion activated and films you if you just walk past my house,

But I don't answer the door anyway unless I'm expecting someone or a package.

BoilingHotand50something · 17/08/2026 15:24

I always knock on the door like Anna from Frozen in ‘do you want to build a snowman’ and now I am realising everyone is probably hating on me!

HollyhocksandPeons · 17/08/2026 15:29

As long as it is not an insult in Morse, what is the problem?

I like and appreciate these knock patterns! I get annoyed when people just knock once - sometimes I don't realise it's a knock, I might just think the kids are clunking about in their rooms or a cat has knocked something off a table 🤣

Yes, I both give and like to get "shave and a haircut", as otherwise I can't tell it's a deliberate door knock. The rhythm stands out against all sorts of background noise.

ThirdStorm · 17/08/2026 15:40

I'm more annoyed with people who don't use my bell. I thought I heard the weakest knock/tap at my door yesterday so I looked at the door to see somebody waiting. I get to the door and she huffs, "oh you are there". Honestly! Do people not know the etiquette for announcing their arrival anymore?!
