Tuneful door knocking

springintospring26 · 16/08/2026 09:49

AIBU to want to punch the visitors/ postman delivery drivers who do that ‘knock knock knock knock. Knock knock’ thing on my door?
it’s so irritating and makes me almost refuse to answer the door.
Do they it’s cutsey?
Do they think they’re edgy?
just fuck off and knock a couple of times like a normal human

Get a doorbell?

Darragon · 16/08/2026 12:05

It’s just how some people knock???? 🤔

Morepositivemum · 16/08/2026 12:30

I’d love someone to knock like that- we have a doorbell that gets stuck 😅

Bacarditropicalfizz · 16/08/2026 12:33

I think you need to do some mindful meditation. 🧘‍♀️

likelysuspect · 16/08/2026 12:33

I knock like that. Rat a tat tat. And then again if you dont come quick enough. I need to make sure you've heard me.

Any1ForTennis · 16/08/2026 12:35

Old neighbour used to clink the door (glass pane) with her rings.

That was even more annoying that stupid knock knock knock-knock knock---knock knock knock pattern the post man used to do.

(For the yonger ones amongst us, The Postie was basically knocking the letters SMS in morse code and though he was very clever).

Tillow4ever · 16/08/2026 13:15

My dad always knocked like that and so do I. Feels weird doing it less.

Is it really that big a deal? How often is it happening that it’s driving you nuts? By all means don’t answer the door. It’s not like they’re there to deliver you stuff that you have ordered and might want… oh wait…

You sound like you have anger issues if something like this makes you want to punch people.

springintospring26 · 17/08/2026 07:49

I think it’s mostly as I live on a busy main road. So my sitting room is right next to my hallway and front door. I hear a knock on the door easily but the tuneful knock seems , I don’t know, unnecessary and bad mannered noise. I’m not usually an angry person honestly but as the consensus seems to be that Im unreasonable I’ll have to rethink that

Do you mean the knock pattern ‘shave and a hair cut’.

I voted YABU because of course it’s ok for you to find this or anything else a bit irritating but your reaction is disproportionate. It’s making you unhappy and no one else. Is there something else bothering you.

KateBushAgain · 17/08/2026 08:21

I used to know someone who for reasons known only to herself wouldn’t knock the door or ring the bell .
I only knew she was there because the dog would go nuts !
very irritating

Do you mean 'knock knock knock knock knock, knock knock'? The extra knock makes all the difference.

takealettermsjones · 17/08/2026 10:50

I like and appreciate these knock patterns! I get annoyed when people just knock once - sometimes I don't realise it's a knock, I might just think the kids are clunking about in their rooms or a cat has knocked something off a table 🤣

allgoodhere783 · 17/08/2026 10:54

I'd love it if someone did that! It'll brighten the day up!
Do you hate Christmas as well lol? or just general cheerfulness?

Chaarlene · 17/08/2026 10:59

Da da da da-da....DA DA

Is it usually accompanied by tuneless whistling?

I think it's meant to convey a breezy 'don't mind me, just passing by, all good vibes!' kind of attitude, rather than a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK - I'm here and I mean business, let me in now.'

MidnightMeltdown · 17/08/2026 11:00

😂

Maybe get a doorbell…

TrugFullofLove · 17/08/2026 11:02

Be glad you didn't have my dad. He would arrive early in the morning and knock our door in a solemn death knell whilst shouting 'Wo is the sluggard'.

I'm not even joking.

mamajong · 17/08/2026 11:08

Haha yabu its irrational but I also hate it and feel ridiculously enraged by it for no reason so I can relate 🤣 I know its unreasonable, I tell myself that and yet I (internally) feel how I feel. 😬

What enrages me more though are people who beep their car horn in a 'tuneful' way when they leave someones house. You've already said goodbye, just drive away and stop disrupting the street, no one else needs to know or care that you are leaving your mates house now.

Springtimeinsunshine · 17/08/2026 11:13

I have a knock pattern, even when I try to knock differently my hand refuses to listen and reverts back to the pattern. If you hate knocking patterns then just get a doorbell.

TallagallaPenguin · 17/08/2026 11:15

Knocking patterns are easier to hear and recognise than a normal one/two knock, that could be something else. I might do a short one first, and a long one later if no answer.

MsGreying · 17/08/2026 11:31

I've been told (by someone that'd know) that I've got a copper's knock.

ButtercupYellow26 · 17/08/2026 11:39

Find something to occupy your mind. Oh and get a doorbell.

"Shave and a hair cut" 🤣🤣 - that's perfect 👌 I know exactly the knock you mean.
I've just analysed my own knocking pattern, and it turns out that "I'm a big fat git" 😍😀

No. It’s knock knock knock knock. Knock knock

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 17/08/2026 11:46

I do a rhythmic knock. It's the 'shave and a haircut, ten bob' thing. It's a hard habit to break, and it sounds less demanding to me.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 17/08/2026 11:48

When I was younger I always used to knock like that. "Knock knock knock knock knock...knock knock" as I thought it sounded more polite 😆
