AIBU to think the PM is ignoring the asylum issue?

I’m firmly working class, and I don’t believe that what we need is to spread the asylum seekers around more. The reason I’m annoyed is not because I don’t want them housed by the middle class, but because I think it’s completely ignoring the problem. I think we need secure detention centres whilst the country either approves the application or sends them off home. These will be safe, food provided, clothes, play areas for the children. The accommodation will have the basics like temporary housing does but they can’t leave until application approved or sent home. But they can’t leave and roam UK unless their application is accepted. Anyone who is violent etc and makes it not safe will automatically be sent home.
I liked this prime minister as I thought he had both feet on the ground, but it seems not….!
If he admits it’s not fair only working class has to deal with it, then surely, he admits it’s a problem and he’s not actually addressing it?

YANBU = PM ignoring actual issue
YABU = Issue is that only working class have to deal with them

Do I see the UK as the same as Nigeria or Afghanistan?! Obviously not, for so many reasons. What a daft question! I don’t feel this thread is really going anywhere.

No, I agree, it's really not going anywhere. Nobody is falling for the spiel.

There seems to be some people who buy into this idea that Islam will take over the UK. It is just nonsense. At current rates of birth and migration it would be hundreds of years before they even reached a majority. There have been some interesting demographic studies on it. But again, convincing people to be terrified of Muslims is proving very productive for certain political parties. They are investing a lot of resource into it and sadly some people fall for it.

perhaps consider how other religions are treated in Moslem countries and the Balkan situation in the 90s

the Jewish people are having a rotten time in the UK at the moment

Why is there so much difference in your view? Is there a common element there that impacts it.

You seem to think Australia is culturally very different which I don’t see how you can, but you’re sorry for the pp for feeling scared etc

It seems a bit muddled

Many do. By the boatload every single day. Wonder why? 🙄

Benefits. I mean we could just not lay out the red carpet for them.

I do. I feel like the tide is turning and I don’t feel so alone with the worry I’ve had over this issue.

You're talking absolute rubbish.

I bet your a boomer who bought a house for £20000 in the 90s. As long as your generation is fine and no one touches your pension you will keep voting Labour.

That’s hilarious - You are so wide of the mark. I’m guessing you weren’t on the recent ‘boomer’ thread, but you’d have seen that I’m definitely not a boomer!

Ok I have to go, but it’s easy to read about the differences in Australia’s economy and trading relationships, the effects of their immigration policies and also their social make-up generally vis-a-vis immigrants. Tonnes of articles on it. I’d love to stay and debate, but maybe another time.

Oh no, you're not a boomer. That much is obvious. Perhaps a boomer would actually care about what's being done to their country and what their grandchildren will be forced to live through.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 16/08/2026 14:12

Change the law; do whatever necessary to send them all away. If we don't know where they're from, send them to an uninhabited island we own.

Sure. It’s really very similar. Have you lived there at any point?

And then the posts on Afghanistan and Nigeria.

It’s not really landing anymore. But I do wonder how people became so influenced.

I suspect 'economics' plays a big part in the depressing succession of people who disingenuously argue for this situation 😉

My post was deleted. So I'm going to rewrite it using more delicate language.

The Labour party and Whitehall do not want to stop illegal immigration. They have internalised the upholding of "human rights" of illegals as the highest moral good. This trumps all financial, social and safety implications. They know there are dozens, even hundreds, of dangerous young men arriving every day but to their mind if just one legitimate "asylum seeker" is prevented from coming that is the greatest tragedy of all.

The thought experiment I'd ask everyone to imagine is if something happened to a family member of Andy Burnham, similar to the fates that met Wayne Broadhurst or Rhiannon Skye Whyte, what would the political result be? The answer is the same old shibboleths about "one bad apple", "mental health issues", "safeguarding failures", "not enough support". There would be no change. Our political elites are so brainwashed they would apply their ideological lens to their own tragedy. So they do not care one iota about what happens to anyone else as a result of their policies.

People need to understand this. There is no failure or incompetence here. The Labour party (and the Greens / Libdems) all believe that the costs faced by the British public from unvetted men are a price worth paying for the spreading of "global equity". They are extremists.

Until these zealots are thrown out of power this is going to continue and get worse and worse.

Pacificbeach · 16/08/2026 14:41

I hadn’t thought of it like that. I am considering it. I have assumed incompetence. But you suggest it’s not incompetence but a “revealed preference.”

It feels like this country needs a proper, out in the open debate about all this.

It's definitely not incompetence. I gave up on that idea a while ago. I automatically assumed that a government would never deliberately put its citizens at risk. More fool me. Once you realise this, the future looks depressing.

As seen on mn some don’t mind. In fact women who don’t want that are in the firing line instead.

I know, it's very strange. One of my sons is a staunch leftist and he doesn't mind. I can only assume that it's because he doesn't know the truth. Some people just aren't able to identify a potential problem. Sloppy thinking as a result of peace since 1945. People have become lazy and dropped the ball.

This is an interesting view. I’ve always wondered if there was some underlying reason for not getting a grip on this. Neither party has been able to put an end to the illegal asylum.

Both parties are dealing with constraining effect of the non elected Blob in Whitehall. They stifle anything that does not further their agenda. See long march through the institutions.

Really?
Or perhaps just torpedo the dinghy and save on transport costs if you prefer not to view them as human beings?

They are human beings. But they aren't UK citizens and they have no rights of abode here. Many nations just keep illegal migrants in a detention centre and don't allow them to mix in the community
