Slimming world supporting weight loss injections. Aibu?

I see that slimming world is now supporting and welcoming people to groups that do weight loss injections.

I feel that this is quite misleading and unfair to participants not doing injections. I have done slimming world years ago and now do weight loss injections only. I wouldn't feel right going to a group where some aren't doing jabs.

The whole slimmer of week is based on pounds only as well, not percentages. I feel the injections give a big advantage. Also, I dont think this works for a group of people.

Also, when I see huge losses for sw being posted I wonder if its the jabs.

I feel it's gone its all quite misleading and a bit unfair on people who still go to group.

What do you think?

Does anyone really have a 3 week plan to win slimmer of the week?!?? Surely no one has intentionally water loaded for 2 weeks in order to get this in week 3 😂

I do agree with everything you say though tbf.

Hopefully they don’t. My point was just that it is an irrelevant measure, but the previous poster being pedantic about not winning at after a gain missed the point entirely.

People do not lose 5lbs of fat in a week, you couldn’t make the deficit without starving yourself. So slimmer of the week has to have had a fluctuation within their digestive system (or even just worn lighter clothes to supplement the loss)

It baffles me why people see weight loss as a competition. I’m eating VERY little, to the point it is borderline unhealthy (many would say it was unhealthy) and I’m losing around 2-2.6 a week, and I NEVER cheat by having anything unhealthy or even eating out right now. So the people who claim to be able to lose more than this are just lying to themselves or are having fluctuations.

and I think people on WLI would benefit massively from going to groups to learn what healthy eating is. Too many on the threads here think that chasing the suppression for the loss will work, but long term it won’t. I’m doing WLI but I refuse to move up a dose, I would rather learn how to deal with the hunger, or how to cook and eat to avoid it altogether. Those taking the 15mg are going to have a nightmare when they try to come off it and they’re absolutely ravenous with no changes to how they eat just that they’ve been eating a bit less. I read one the other day where a lady did her first jab, then had a takeaway the next day 🤦‍♀️

PartialEclipseOfTheHeart · 14/08/2026 18:15

They're a business, I imagine they've lost members in droves since WLI came along and they're trying to cling onto them.

It would be fair in the group to have two awards, one for people on WLI and one for those not.

SilenceInside · 14/08/2026 18:20

@Boreded some people are on 15mg because that is the dose that works for them, not because they’re “chasing suppression”. It’s wrong to suggest that everyone on that dose will have a nightmare time when at goal.

I also think that suggesting that people on WLI need to go to SW type groups to learn about healthy eating also promotes the stereotype that we are all thick and don’t have a clue about healthy eating. From my experience nearly everyone knows what they are supposed to do, the issue is with sticking to it consistently. Hence WLI. SW tries to help people stick to it consistently by coming up with diet plans and systems that are supposed to make it easier to manage what you eat.

TBF, the 15mg takers may simply stay on indefinitely. People don't necessarily need a plan about how to come off WLIs, because long term usage is an option.

Learningdutch · 14/08/2026 18:34

If they know you are on WLI you can't get SOW

Slimming world has never been about weight loss, it’s a business. Of course they are welcoming customers with jabs, as they’ve likely taken a huge amount of their business

You’ve chosen to take that as ‘all’ when I was referring to a specific set of people who have made no changes to their eating except that they have a bit less.

obviously there are some who have been able to change their eating, they don’t need to learn new habits. But please, carry on being pedantic

Itsthewoluff · 14/08/2026 18:51

I must admit that I’ve often wondered who are on the jabs and who aren’t. No one in our group has ever admitted it.

susiedaisy1912 · 14/08/2026 18:53

SW is doomed without embracing the Weight Loss medication as it’s only going to become more readily accessible over the next decade. Once the skeptics have calmed down and the next generation of people are used to them being the go to help with obesity any other diet plan without the meds will go out of favour in my opinion

SilenceInside · 14/08/2026 18:54

@Boreded pedantry is one of my favourite pastimes.

I think that there’s no evidence that there’s a lot of people who just eat a bit less of unhealthy food and lose substantial amounts of weight. Most people on the long running support threads on MN who are on higher doses are making substantial changes to the lifestyle and working hard to embed them. Attending a SW group or similar is not going to teach them anything helpful about maintaining weight loss. It doesn’t teach people who aren’t on WLI how to do it successfully either, as we already know.

But…you’ve just done exactly what i did, by implying that NOBODY benefits from slimming world.

I don’t like it (SW I mean), but you can’t deny that there a large number of people who are target members and continue to be. They exist in every group…

Girlwithavibe · 14/08/2026 19:05

They can't get slimmer.of the week if their taking weight loss injections or pills !!
Image therapy has changed as well and it doesn't work !
It was all changed due to business strategy Because they won't survive with going forward if they can't offer help to people on weight loss meds !!!
But it's a shame for people at group already not on meds because there now realising that slimming world don't give a shit about them they just want to take people's money !
I don't think it will survive tbh I was a group member up til a month ago since 2023 !!and got to target 🎯
3 stone loss I did gain a stone back and struggled to get back to target !
I am having some health issues ATM moment and my consultant asked me how I was and I sent her along message she read and dint reply then a week later sent me a generic message and that pissed me off she wasn't asking after me she just wants me back in group for my money that's what it felt like !
So I have devised my own plan and it's working !!

AtlasCedar · 14/08/2026 19:10

It’s not a competition. Or shouldn’t be.

Coldwetlettuce · 14/08/2026 19:18

They’ve probably had to cos WLIs are nicking all their customers. What I don’t get is why are people on WLIs going to slimming world?? You don’t even have to try to eat less on WLIs or eat low-cal and you don’t even want the ‘cheat’ meals, it’s so easy you don’t need swimming world!

What does one get for being slimmer of the week? But yes, why would you tell them?!

Spidey66 · 14/08/2026 19:21

I think WW started going tits up around the time of the pandemic, way before jabs became widespread. Their meetings never really recovered from going online, plus the magazine stopped being published.

I think it's ok doing both. I'm using wli and am losing weight slowly, but my diet isn't great. I imagine SW can be a good way of learning about nutrition and exercise alongside the wli.

A cringy round of applause and a basket of fruit contributed by other members usually. Top prize!

Hankunamatata · 14/08/2026 19:41

They have welcomed them from the beginning in my group.
This is my 3rd group and its breath fresh air. Very much focuses on building healthy habits, portion control, eating until your full - really sensible

Viviennemary · 14/08/2026 19:46

I think it's fair enough. People will still have to modify their eating habits in the long term.

What about lifting weights and building luscl? That’s what they should be focussed on. But they won’t because if all their clients did this they’d be more likely keep the weight off and so wouldn’t be repeat clients.

youngwhippersnapper · 14/08/2026 20:04

Viperregency · 14/08/2026 17:10

It kind of is with all the free food nonsense.

Free foods just mean that you don’t need to weigh foods which are not calorie dense eg fruit and veg.

youngwhippersnapper · 14/08/2026 20:08

19lottie82 · 14/08/2026 17:08

Really? Didn’t it used to be you could eat as much plain pasta and potatoes as you liked?

I think it used to be many years ago but now it’s around a third of your plate advised at most.

It’s changed a lot over the 23 years that I’ve been a target member. It’s just normal healthy eating these days.

DorsetMermaid · 14/08/2026 20:15

Viperregency · 14/08/2026 17:30

yeah but that’s hidden in the small print, they absolutely stated you can eat as much as you wish and you know it.

Our consultant and the book I was given repeatedly state that you 'eat until you're full' not until you're absolutely stuffed.

The people in my group who are using WLI all say they're wanting to learn healthier eating habits so they can stay a healthy weight in future.

There's a whole part of SW that's about exercise. In the book you're given when you start there's a large section about moving and weight bearing exercise. There's a system of monitoring how you increase your exercise over the weeks and awards for achievement. The SW magazine also covers exercise every month and my consultant talks about it every week.
