Not a huge fan of Labour I must say, but this is well overdue!

Crowborough is very middle class
they would be apoplectic by his remarks
i imagine the telegraph are wetting themselves with their article, winding up the middle classes, ie their readers

It's also very Tory (and possibly quite Reform).

Burnham doesn't need to worry about losing any votes there.

Maybe Burnham can include the site at Bexhill that was mooted before the last GE. The Tories backed down on using it because of local opposition in a Tory seat.

Poll doesn’t seem to match the volume of comments here. Funny that.

A tiny village, Piddington is set to receive its first illegal migrants. The village has around 300 adults and 50 children. They will be receiving 1,250 adult males.

This is deliberate damage.

I guess many are clicking OP is unreasonable because they believe the answer is to stop the boats, not to fiddle around with where these men are housed.

Nighthop · Yesterday 09:22

We have some extremely wealthy ,(beyond normal wealthy ) areas around here. They can take their share too!

suburburban · Yesterday 09:22

the doc did.say this too, the reason they're coming to Britian is because they're given homes... a quote from an Iranian in the doc "Would we be given a free house in Iran? No!"

Yes where else would this happen in the world?

what standards of accommodation do they come from in their own countries and why should we have to accommodate them at the expense of our own citizens needing housing

TheOutlier · Yesterday 09:23

Maybe No10 can be used as an HMO as the PM is wasting money on further premises in the North?

lazysusannah · Yesterday 09:24

They should be deported.

Other countries return all migrants entering by illegal means.

We need to do the same.

Thanks. I don't know if you saw those pictures of the huge dinghy - more than 200 people? It took some time to leave French waters and I do wonder if the French police suspect that some of them have guns or other weapons? I also suspect that taking action once people are on board could result in tragedy.
However, there has to be a better situation than this.

The people piloting the boat are never the bosses, they're often the people who are being smuggled and will have been given a discount to pilot it. They have no clue where they're going or what they're doing. Sometimes they do multiple crossings... e.g. we hear of one boat getting into trouble and being rescued by the British coastguard but before the British coastguard comes, the makeshift captain jumped out and asked the French coastguard to rescue him. He wanted to go back and do more crossings to make a bit of money.

Yes, the Boriswave numbers were an absolute disaster, and while they've dropped percentage wise now, they still represent hundreds of thousands of new arrivals annually so the total is still rising.

I will say my issue is with migration not the migrants. Anyone who has arrived legally and breaks no laws is just doing what anyone would to give themselves and their families better opportunities.
It's the politicians and policy-makers who are to blame.

Are you saying you have an issue with those fleeing the Chinese regime from Hong Kong that they should have been turned away? Or genuine Ukrainian families fleeing the savages from Russia? Or the Afghan interpreters that helped the British forces? Some immigration is clearly ethical, and the right thing to do. Millions of men washing up here from safe enough countries looking for a house and benefits, so they can move their entire extended family indefinitely to cash in here not so much.

We should be able to CONTROL our borders and who is here day to day easily. It is a small country and we have plenty of tech options we could utilise, but I have no faith at all that Andy is going to do anything of the sort, quite the reverse. The migrants will see the wet lettuce at the top and take full advantage.

these people and their families are also being exploited as they're being told lies by the crime bosses and often the crossing is deadly... no guarantees of entry despite paying thousands.

The documentary was heartbreaking. We're not doing enough to fix this. Everyone suffers except the crime bosses.

My post was exclusively addressing legal migration, not asylum, so I'm not sure if you've replied to the wrong person.

Is it Xenophobic to not want any more criminals breaking into our country illegally? The moment they land they have committed their first crime. The shouldn’t be here. I doubt their own countries would be so accommodating if we went there?

Lots of MNers tend to ignore all the data showing their higher than average per capita crime rates.

UK birthrate catastrophically low. We must import younger fitter people to do essential jobs and pay taxes.

Uk birth rate is low because conscientious people can’t afford children. Fix that first.

YourAmplePlumPoster · Yesterday 09:28

According to Government statistics only 51% of asylum seekers are working after being granted asylum and usually in low skilled jobs topped up by benefits. Wonder what the other half are doing. Also according to Government statistics most of them are from Pakistan, India, Nigeria and Bangladesh. I didn't know these countries were war torn.

I posted to the right person, thanks. You are talking about the legal migrants, and I am highlighting many of them were invited here for good reason.

TheOutlier · Yesterday 09:29

I heard they are using bigger boats because the criminal business of supplying smaller boats has been halted to some extent. But there is so much money in it the gangs have turned to bigger boats instead. These so-called refugees are paying so much it is making organised crime megabucks. It’s all about economic migration and the pull factor is a country with apparently unlimited free housing and benefits acting like a massive magnet. But no money for its own taxpayers!!

igglepiggll · Yesterday 09:30

Dollymylove · Yesterday 09:18

I think its a great idea as long as they turn a load of houses on Andys road into HMOs and fill them with illegal men who hang around schools smoking weed and following girls around. Not forgetting taking a dump in the street., just like it is round our way. C'mon Andy, get cracking with it

Yep, the number of turds on our greens and pavements have rocketed.

Many of them don’t care. I’ve seen many comment ‘so what?’ When confronted with statistics and predictions

This demonstrates a level of hatred of white people imo. They wouldn’t not care if this was happening to any other ethnic group.

And yes, I do believe some white people (on the left) have allowed themselves to absorb the hatred of white people message they have been exposed to over the last few decades.

I believe some of these people may change their view when the reality of being a hated minority reveals itself.

What’s actually happening @EnglishRose26 is that those of us with any sense - clearly I have none - are refusing to engage with the stench that’s emanating from this thread. It’s one of the most disgusting demonstrations of xenophobia I’ve seen in my 73 years on this planet and I’m only grateful that all of you here represent a distinct minority of opinion.

No just people being realistic. Guess you don’t live anywhere near the hotels housing these young men? . Over 200 on ONE boat and this boat was successful. Surely you cannot believe this is sustainable?

Lots of MNers tend to ignore all the data showing their higher than average per capita crime rates.

And those statistics are vastly underreported too, because many people have given up going through the process of reporting due to the lack of police action.

Other half working in barbers, vape shops and take aways.

Interesting chart about this in the FT this morning.

I was talking about people who come over on work visas.

Literally you've the gone on to respond to stuff I never said, but somehow assumed you knew my views on?

FWIW I do think it was the right thing to give sanctuary to people from Hong Kong and Ukraine, but I'm a lot less convinced about men from Afghanistan:

Frankly, the less Afghani men in any country, the better for for the women and girls of that country.

No. Economic migrants. Stop with the faux naivety.

This is beyond a joke now. The fact this country seems completely unable to control their borders and the illegal migration continuing daily is just unsustainable. They aren’t fleeing war - they are trying to gain a better life - a home and benefits. They literally do not need to work when they get here - is this fair at all on tax payers?

No wonder they come across - all they need to do is get here and we put them up in a hotel.

The government is unwilling not unable. They could stop this tomorrow if they wanted to. They don’t.
