To find this rude?

If someone has paid for a family members partner to attend a holiday, paid for their accommodation and activities - for this person to then say “I don’t want to go” a few days before. Is this rude?

Yes.

Is any of it refundable/transferable?

Ohthatsabitshit · 10/08/2026 23:37

If they were asked before it was booked then not just rude but outrageous. Ask them to pay for their share.

thistimelastweek · 10/08/2026 23:40

Sounds horribly rude.
But what was the upfront arrangement?

Pistachiocake · 10/08/2026 23:42

Yes, unless there's a good reason. Eg family sick/job situation, or something's come to light that wasn't discussed, eg they're expected to share a room with someone they can't stand, and that wasn't explained before.

Accommodation - non refundable as its per room rather than per person. (UK holiday park)

I think the activities can be cancelled with 24 hours notice for a full refund. But the whole booking will need to be cancelled and then rebooked for the remaining guests, as there isn’t the option to just cancel one person from the activity.

Parents asked a family member and their partner if they would like to attend the holiday on X dates, they would not need to pay anything. They both agreed and put ideas out for what activities they wanted to do.

Were they asked before if they wanted to come, or were they just told the few days before?
If they said they wanted to come and then changed their mind, do you have any idea why?

Don’t give the incel any notifications. I’m sure they’ll be banned pretty soon.

Did this person actively agree to the holiday or were they always a bit reticent? If the former…then yes they are rude. If the latter…then perhaps less rude, but still…they should have been much clearer before it was booked that they really weren’t interested.

Have they given a genuine reason now as to why they wish to back out? Or is it more of an excuse not to go?

Katemax82 · 10/08/2026 23:51

I reported it too, fucking nutjob

TemperanceWest · 10/08/2026 23:52

There's not enough information here. How old is the person? Whats their reason for not coming? Has their been a deterioration in the relationship between them and any of the other attendees? Does the person have form for this?

They were asked if they wanted to go. Absolutely no obligation or expectations.
They said yes.
They told the lead booker (is that even a thing?🤣) which activities they wanted to do. Have been booked onto group activities that include everyone, and some activities for just them and my family member as a couple. (Which have been paid for by my parents).

Absolutely no idea why they have changed their mind, they just “don’t feel like going” now.

Late 20’s, I think 27/28?

No idea what the reason is.

No deterioration in relationship as far as I’m concerned.

They do have a little bit of form for pulling out of things, but it’s mostly family meals out, nothing to this scale where things have already been paid for though.

Anxiety maybe I like the thought of doing lots of things but when it actually comes to it I can't cope.

@strawberryfandango I think you should probably notify the family member whose partner has decided not to come that they will be expected to pay any extra costs incurred, and make it clear to them that this person will not be invited to anything again if they go through with cancelling at this late point for no good reason. Then follow through on that!
