This morning I tripped over the doorframe, fell into the house, pulled the curtain pole down, broke two toes and ended up at the doctors with a cut on my leg that wouldn't stop bleeding. All this in front of the guys working on my house who witnessed me crying and swearing like a trooper. Also cried in front of the nurse. And the neighbours witnessed it all too. I have to move now don't I? Come and tell me your 'I fell over' tales of woe to make me feel better please.

Feel in the mums face at sports day. In front of my son’s entire school. Turns out you can’t actually die of shame, which felt really unfair at the time.

OccasionalHope · 10/08/2026 20:43

I fell over my own front doorstep.

I know someone who fell off a stool she was standing on to swat a fly off the ceiling in the middle of the night as its buzzing was keeping her awake. The fly got away uninjured. the human broke her pelvis.

My DH broke his ankle slipping on muddy grass at the corner of our cul de sac on the school run. He needed the 2 paramedics and 2 neighbours to get him (on the trolley) into the ambulance. And left really good tracks in the grass.

Not a fall but I was stung by a wasp while eating in a pub garden last week. It is incredibly painful and inappropriate words were had. Felt very self conscious once I stopped flapping and swearing.

Yow, I hope you can rest up and feel better soon!

When I had just met my now-partner twenty years ago he came round for a date. We went up to the roof of the flat I lived in where there was a nice decking/terrace bit. Naturally, I slipped right over in the most spectacular way - no idea how. I hadn't even had a drink. I was wearing tights (and a skirt, don't worry) but I had a bruise the size of a cricket ball on my backside for weeks. You know how when you get a bruise on a fleshy bit - the good thing was plenty of padding, the worst the lovely black, purple, green and then yellow it went.

Ah I had one of those backside bruises once. I went down a flight of stairs on my bottom. The bruise was truly spectacular as it appeared in the shape of giant cat’s paw. I had the same with the colours as well.
My late DM was a champion faller. One Autumn we walking along a street that had a lot of fallen leaves. My mother started stumbling about and fell. She had got her foot wedged in a discarded hollowed out pumpkin from Halloween 🎃. My best wishes to all the fallen PP’s. May you recover from your injuries, pain and embarrassment quickly.

Usually I read these threads and think the Op is exaggerating but I can totally Imagine this happening!! You poor thing. At least you were falling inside rather than outside!

Siddalee · 10/08/2026 21:07

I've found my people! When I was a child, my mother took me to the doctor beacuse I fell over that much she was convinced there was something wrong with my ankles. I once fell over the white lines in the middle of the road! The doctor said there was nothing wrong with my ankles. I was just "one of those clumsy children"

Many years later, I visited a podiatrist who after a first glance said-
"I bet you fell over a lot as a child didn't you, and you've never won a race either have you!" When I lamented about my constant falling over and the time as a young (23) teacher, I was beaten in the sports day Teachers' Race by the 55 year old Headteacher, he asked why my mum didnt take me to the doctor as a child!!!

Apparently, my feet are at the wrong angle (?) and I now wear insoles in my shoes- not that that stops me falling over.

We've just come back from a holiday in a hilly area. We visited there two years ago and I really stuggled on the walk from the harbour back to the hotel. So, I've been visiting the gym and doing lots of walking on an incline. First night, I yomped back up the hill and was so delighted! I turned round to my husband to say "look at me!", put my foot in a pothole, fell over and was on crutches for the rest of the holiday!!!

I thought you meant that you slipped off the roof - that would have been a memorable date!

I went down in a zoo, twisted my ankle and was in a lot of pain and struggled to hobble. I got collected and taken to the first aid room in the back of a pick-up (I couldn't get up in to the cab) that had remnants of rhino poo. I may have sat in some.

DH and DS carried on round the zoo (I did tell them too) while I sat quietly ponging with a bandaged ankle. I am not sure it needed a bandage, but the zoo staff were very kind and I got a cup of tea and some biscuits too. They also gave me a money off voucher for another visit. I think they were concerned I was going to sue them.

Center Parcs. Stepped off the land train, fell over my own feet and face planted the tarmac. In front of a packed train full of people. I was completely sober 😏

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 10/08/2026 21:37

Getting ready for work in my mid 20s, had a new dress I wanted to wear but was worried it didn’t go with my shoes. No full length mirror in tiny flat, so I got one of my folding dining chairs, clambered on top to peer at my shoes in tiny bathroom mirror. I leaned back; the chair folded underneath me. I was lucky not to break my coccyx, it was just severely bruised. Much confusion when I tried to explain to the paramedics: ‘but the shoes look fine’.

I also fell over on stage at my university graduation. I was suddenly overcome with nerves waiting to walk across the stage, my feet were so sweaty that I slipped out of my high heeled shoes and ended up on all fours on the stage. The audience gasped in horror but I rescued it by standing up and bowing, mortarboard in hand!

DubiousGoals · 10/08/2026 21:37

I tripped over my new ankle-strap platform wedges leaving a restaurant. DH (then DP) knelt down to check the damage to my ankle. A large-ish group sitting outside the pub opposite thought he was proposing and started clapping and cheering.

I can fall over in an empty room - some of the highlight reel to make OP feel better

  1. Y2K fashion era; got my spike heel caught in the turn-up of my own trousers and fell literally head over heels down steps outside an office on Five Ways island (literally the busiest in Birmingham). Drivers got out to check on me
  2. tripped over the strap of my handbag getting out of a Discovery (so quite high up). For reason of holding a birthday party and having forgotten it I was holding an ENORMOUS knife when I fell. The shouts of horror from the many many witnesses were something to behold. I didn’t stab myself thankfully.
  3. Tripped down the escalator at Euston (thankfully toward the bottom). Very painful but the worst part was knocking over 2 other commuters in my face plant. Yes really.

I know I’m wicked but I’ve giggled my way through this thread. I fell down my stairs at home while rushing from upstairs to answer the door. As usual I had bare feet which caused me to slip on the carpet. My legs went up in the air and I slalomed down the whole flight on my bottom, hitting every stair as I went. I laid on the hall floor trying to regain my composure and because everything hurt I crawled to the front door and reached up to open it. I gazed up only to see my MP staring down at me. It was just before the last election and he was out canvassing. I whimpered ‘I’ve just fallen down the stairs’ and instead of a bit of concern for one of his constituents he mumbled something about coming back as this obviously wasn’t a good time for me and made a hasty retreat. Needless to say I didn’t vote for the hard-hearted fucker.

Please tell me that was a Reform MP.

I’m having a really horrible life currently but this thread is better than therapy.

Went to a circus had to climb a hill to get the to the tent, stupidly wearing wedges, proceeded to climb the hill. Slipped... rolled back down like a sausage.. DD7 thought it was hilarious and keeled over laughing.

40+ 2 weeks pregnant.

Gone to the supermarket to get some groceries.

Lived in a very hot hilly country. Obviously wearing flip flops 🫣

Sweaty food slips on said flip flop, I lose balance and slowly rumble downwards and obviously my head ends up downhill and my feet upwards.

Could NOT sit up for the life of me.

A man driving out of the car park sees me and decides to jump out the car to come and rescue me and gets caught on the seat belt and lands in a heap beside me.

Thought i was ok until I got home and had a bath and my ankle swelled up like a balloon and I couldn’t walk on it for 2 days.

Thank goodness I didnt go into labour until 40+5!

You went in to natural labour at 40 plus 5 weeks or 5 days?

Walking the dog, took a shortcut between a couple of industrial units to save me walking around the industrial estate. Normally it's a fairly accessible and well trodden "path" but in Summer it gets pretty full with shrubbery and weeds. The unit has a washbay which it lets run off onto this area and to avoid the muddy puddle I stepped onto a big stone. Well the stone rolled and I fell onto my arse in nettles.

i sat there for a few minutes assessing my situation. I could not stand straight up without rolling over or using my hands, thus increasing the amount of nettle exposure. I managed to use my trainers to flatten some of the nettles around my feet area. Then I used to the dog lead to lasso a branch above me which I was able to use to pull myself up. I had rolled my ankle and it was blowing up like a balloon and I couldn't weight bear so i called DH to come and get me. There were thankfully no witnesses.

However, my dog was so embarrassed that he walked to the end of the path and sat on the pavement facing away from me and totally ignored me. All I wanted was for him to come back and be a comforting presence until DH came to help. Bloody mutt.

Meeting my new team in person for the first time in London. We’d all stayed in a hotel near head office and in the morning we all walked together to the office. It was pissing it down. I had my back pack on, brolly in one hand, and overnight bag in the other. As I was striding along I stepped on some tiles outside a shop that were horribly greasy and both my feet shot out from underneath me and I went flat on my back into a puddle My stylist ankle length wool coat soaked up the entire puddle in a second and my new colleagues had to help me to my feet and wring my coat out. The final indignity was when I got to the office and opened my lap top to find it hadn’t survived having my entire weight smashed into it. What a way to impress my new direct reports.

Tripped up (sober) going in to a friend's house. Landed on the metal sticky up door trim. Split my knee open, fella behind got a full view and I was mortified. Luckily I was wearing jeans. Almost passed out but the worst bit was I'd thrown on my cheap slip on shoes I'd worn all summer. As I lay down with people fussing around me, all I could think was how my feet stunk 😂

Mischance · 10/08/2026 22:10

I fell whilst getting off a rope ferry over a river and did some serious damage. Having landed I slipped down the bank towards the fast flowing water and the last thing I remembered as I passed out was my doctor husband saying: "I cant feel a pulse"
What a debacle that all was!

You went in to natural labour at 40 plus 5 weeks or 5 days?

Edited

Well days or obviously would have been 45 + …. 🤷‍♀️🤣

As it was he was born by EMCS at 41 weeks - even hitting the deck didn’t encourage him to pop himself out naturally!

So the 40 plus 2 weeks was a typo

Walking up my driveway caught the loop of one lace in the hook on the other boot. Had shopping bags so fell straight down, and landed on my hands. Quickly got up and rushed inside and started to cry.
Doorbell goes and I answer it and it’s my neighbour, who I didn’t realise was out there, she asked me if I was ok, I twisted my hands/wrists and said yes just a lot of gravel in cuts on my palms.
She quickly took my hand and said don’t do that you’ve got at least one broken bone in your hand/wrist (she is a nurse).
Went to hospital and had two broken bones, but couldn’t have cast straight away due to the cuts so had to wait for a couple of weeks until they had healed and then got the cast.
The pain when I got home was agony and was greeted by a few neighbours who saw my comedy trip. The boots went straight into the bin!
